That actually went pretty cheap at $12000..!! back in 95` a buick with only 15,000 miles sold for $25000 ..back then it was shown as the lowest mile 57 buick in the US..

the aunts name was gallagher .. but that wasnt kalvin`s surname ..just trying to find his surname would be quite a time consuming job in itself ..& no news story would of used surnames & to have access to such records would be unlikely ..especially when i live in 16000 miles away..

I think to gather the correct info regarding research .. & to collaborate who exactly died 50/60 years ago would be like finding a needle in a hay stack ...& the input time frame would be totally consuming ...it would probably be fish scale after fish scale i would have to search thru ...& it would be very non realistic to think any news would mention a 57 buick was involved .. unless your reading a stephen king novel !! ...its like trying to work out how long is a piece of string ? ..or how many people ever died in a buick ?

I have removed the inlet manifold & discovered that there was a large plug underneath the inlet ... infact it blew out due to the backfire & was the reason the engine sounds like a tractor ...My hat goes off to Dave (61 polara) you hit the nail on the head my friend ..!! ... i appreciate everyones input ..with great technicians like these guys ... were in good hands ...cheers !!!

Thanks Dave , on 57 inlet there is no plug underneath ..i got a feeling it could be the carby to inlet paper base gasket ..the carby base gasket has the exhaust channel that runs thru it ..wouldnt take much to burn a piece out of this gasket as shown..

Thankyou guys ...its definitely not the mufflers with holes because the noise is around the valley cover inlet carby area ... but the carby still seems to work fine ..its a carter 2 barrel WGD type...& i think Rusty ,your definitely right concerning the damper ..i believe it has slightly moved.

would appreciate help with this timing issue i have with my buick 57 convertible 364ci.. the engine ran nicely & has only done 10,000 miles..but i noticed that both the timing marks would not align & when timing light was used it showed the marks were 1.5" apart. if i moved the dizzy & make the balancer timing mark move toward the fixed timing mark on timing cover the engine would retard..so i decided to remove dizzy & reset the timing.. but at first i made the mistake of setting the dizzy 180 degrees short of TDC & when i started the engine there was a large pop sound up thru the carby which also caused the fuel line to split short of entry to the carby & where the fuel filter joins,, so i replaced the hose & filter & again re-set the distributor with both #1 cylinder valves closed & after 2 revolutions on powerstroke & with rotor pointing at #1 on dizzy cap & with points about to open..i then started the engine & again there was only minor back fire thru carby .. it was then obvious i would need to reset dizzy so the timing mark were 1.5" apart as when engine did run nicely...so i reset the dizzy & the engine ran somewhat smoother & with minor smoke coming out valley cover But the engine also sounded louder & like a tractor engine or old wooden boat or as if there was a hole in valley cover(but there is no hole)...i put the timing gun & it showed same timing as when it did run nicely & prior to removing the dizzy..it ran till it got warm then engine stopped running ..it restarts easy enough just louder with minor rough idling so i decided to try reset the dizzy one tooth over from when it now ran but that was no good ..i decided to reset the dizzy under one tooth from when it just previously ran but that too was a no go...so i reset the dizzy back to where is does run but still sounds like a tractor or sounds as if there is a hole in valley cover ..there is some black residue exhaust that has exited the tailpipes too .. could of the first mistake of re-setting the dizzy 180 short of powerstroke have caused a gasket to damage within carby somewhere or between carby & inlet to sound like a tractor now or do i still have the timing wrong ? anyone know how to solve this problem? thanks john

unfortunately when i purchased the car in 94 the owners were over 80 years old..doubt they are still around ...& these are not photo shopped !!! ..pic 3 i highlighted the hue to bring out the face and make it clearer .. with photo 2 does that honestly look photo shopped ?? it would be pretty hard to photo shop that face in the window as would pic 1 !! the colouring does not change ...all i did was circle what was there in red... i was even told once by someone that pic 2 was a street lamp post reflection..if it is a lamp post wheres the pole ?? ...il take the car out soon again & get some more pics to prove this is real ..

It was somewhere between Winter & Spring of 94` when i decided to purchase a 1957 Buick Special 2dr hardtop from an Ad in a US magazine known as `Hemmings Motor News`.The magazine could only be purchased at the time from an automotive book shop in Gouger St Adelaide SOUTH AUSTRALIA. The simple ad read " 1957 Buick special 2dr hardtop original 32,000 miles one owner, garaged for 30 yrs $5000. Denver,Colorado & with no picture of the car supplied . I just had to have it !! I looked for an auto appraiser in that same district from the magazine & to make the purchase on my behalf & whom charged me $500 for all his efforts. I still remember his first ph call stating that he finally aquired the car from the 85 yr old lady owner who stopped driving the car 30 yrs ago being the car was too big for her to drive & park.The Appraiser drove the Buick 25 miles to his home in upper class Yosemite, & parked it in his drive way. The Appraiser mentioned that the Buick brang out all the neighbours & all were delighted that they have never seen this style of Buick & how unique it truly was. The Appraisor went on to say that he received an offer from one of the neighbors who was willing to pay $10,000 for the Buick, but i immediately declined the offer & thus the car was now on its way to Australia sight unseen. It was 3 months later the Buick arrived & i decided to fully restore the car. The restoration started with the removal of the complete interior & it was then i saw small like shadows darting around me & with every interior piece that was removed the darting shadows became more apparent & moved more erratic. At the time i thought nothing of it & soon enough 4 years had passed & the restoration was finally complete ..I still remember fitting the final component to the car & listening to the radio when the news came over that Princess Diana had passed away. The Buick now was registered & ready to drive & my first outing was to Glenelg, with some friends..I parked the car accross the restaurant we decided to dine at & whilst waiting for our meals one of my friends requested that we go outside & take a few pics of the car. 3 pics were taken within 10 seconds of each other on this day & i utilised these 3 pics to show friends & people the restored car..I remember showing the car pics to a phsycic friend whom mentioned they felt saddened by the pic & proceeded to say she felt that 2 people had died in the car & that if i was to remove the paint from the rear qauter panel under the rear side window that i would find holes. I said holes ? she said yes bullit holes !! I nearly fell off my chair backwards as i remember finding holes during the restoration in this same area..The Phsycic`s next words then were "did you notice the face in the side rear window ?? after seeing the face a flood of all the unexplainable shadows i sighted during the restoration came flooding back.. i proceeded to view the other 2 pics taken on this day as the buick in the street pic was the 3rd shot taken..the 2nd came out black (didnt work)..the first shot actually showed a face side -on which looked to have a tadpole like tail (like it was travelling) in the front side window..infact it looked somewhat comical.. (that pic now has been lost) then the 3rd shot taken shows the face when it reached the rear side window. At the time we took these 3 pics we did not notice any faces.. i was so excited with these findings that i called another 2 different phsycics at different times ..showed them the photo & they too did say Drugs & money gone wrong way back ..African american man in the front white caucasian man in the back.. i was so excited i called one of the phsycics to come to my home to see the car. The phsycic arrived & seemed desperate to immediately see the car ..as she walked in through the front door she mentioned that she had allready felt a presence & said she was greeted with a phenomena of swirling buzzing lights as she walked pass the front of the garage . Infact in previous times i have had a number visitors who also have witnessed this same phenomena..The phsycic requested a crystal glass as We both proceeded toward the back yard. Before even seeing the car the Phsycic began to rub the top of the crystal glass in a circular motion as we stood between house & garage ..The phsycic began to say That 2 men died !! .. African american man was driving in the front and a white caucasian man in the back seat , drugs & money gone wrong ..The phsycic then paused & said that white man is now talking with me..His name is Kalvin & is nearly 7 ft tall with lanky posture..He lived with his aunty as he did not get along with his parents & on the day he passed away he took his Aunty`s old Buick car without his aunties knowledge from the shed & used it to go incognito & explain to his drug boss why he undersold these drugs given to him to sell. But before he could explain his situation to the drug boss he & the African American man driving were gunned down outside an alley in downtown Denver, & before he got out from the Buick.. The phsycic then went on to say that he has been watching you soley raise your daughters watching you through your & is saddened that he did not get the time to have children of his own & become a father himself. I then said to the Phsycic can you ask him why he stays with the buick & not head for the light The phsycic said to me that he shaking his head as to say no he cant ! The phsycic then said that he wants to show you that he indeed is now here & that he wants to now appear before you !! ..the Phsycic then proceeded to again rub the top of the crystal glass & it was then i looked to my left & then all of a sudden i could see what appeared to be a lit party sparkler effect which was circling the squares of wire fencing that i had proped up to seperate 2 yards at my home & to keep my 2 daughters rabbits fenced off from one yard to the another. This sparkler phenomena appeared about 20 feet from where both the phsycic & i were standing..this sparkler effect was moving erratically around the small wire squares ..i just couldnt believe my eyes !!! It suddenly stopped circling the wire squares & flew towards me & past me only missing me by a few inches & then flew through part of my house out the other side & dart into the garage where the Buick was kept ..I was SO overwhelmed to see this phenomena & i said to the Phsycic "what was that : she said .."that was him"..i said "wow' Thats unbelievable" i was riddled with goosebumps !!! & before this day i was truly a skeptic !! & it was then i come to realise this Buick is a real genuine gangsta car from wayback!! . I asked the phsycic when do these ghosts love appearing ? she paused again & replied "he says sometimes when you park the car in a public place or if trouble will arise the vehicle will let you know !! Anyhow`s Since this occurence,, the Buick has rarely been taken on outings since restoration & it has been a few times the buick has shown occurences/signs to warn or assist ....& the story below is factual to one of those times.. ........................................................................................********* ............................................................................................................ It was New years eve 2004 , I decided to spend New years eve with a young lady friend & potential girlfriend to be i first met 2 weeks previous.. we decided on this night to spend our time seeing in the new year with friends of hers whom also lived within her residential complex..On this night i decided to park the Buick in a carpark situated behind the apartment complex & the area i parked the Buick this night no-one else used being it was out of the way yet i could view the car from where we were partying..the Buick was more safer here than the other car park & this car park had a long road leading to the main highway & was very private . After midnite came & went I decided to take my lady friend into town in the Buick to reign in the new year...I parked the Buick opposite the Convention Centre & at once it drew a large crowd .I was literally swamped by people asking me about the car . It was then i turned to my lady friend & said i think we should leave ..she replied that she has friends that are on their way from the casino to come & see the car ..After 15 min these 2 males were talking to my lady friend & so she then introduced me to them as her friends to my disliking.. she asked if it was possible i could offer them a lift to Elizabeth to which i replied it is a little out of our way ..but she persisted & so i agreed to take them.. ..once we reached their respective address the 3 of them got out of the car & went into their residence whilst i waited outside with the car....10 min went by & my lady friend was now ready to go back home..as we were driving back i began to ask her questions regarding her affiliation to those fellows ie: who are these blokes?..how long have you known them ? etc etc ...after offering her first reply the buick began to emit an awful fibreous odour & with every answer to the questions given the odour got stronger & stronger.. so strong i had to stop the car by the curb & off the highway & check the car was not on fire ! i looked underneath the car...checked under the hood but there was no sign of anything burning... i then got back in the car & headed back to my lady friends home ..I returned to the car park where i previously parked the buick that night & walked my lady friend back to her apartment. when we got to the door i said goodbye & got back to the Buick only for it not to start. I couldnt believe that it would not start !! ...This Buick was as new & $50,000 spent on the restoration with no expense spared ! ..I was totally beside myself! ...I decided to go back to my lady friends apartment to let her know that i would need to call a tow truck & the reason why i was still parked in the carpark ... she seemed a little frantic & stressed when i explained i had to wait for a tow truck which i thought was odd. I then went back to the Buick & waited for the tow truck ...after 20 min of waiting i noticed a taxi coming in off the highway & heading into the carpark where i was waiting ... i noticed someone in the rear of the taxi trying to hide down in the back seat from me ...when the taxi got closer i noticed it was one of the guys i dropped off earlier with my lady friend ...the taxi immediately turned around & made a quick exit back onto the highway... I was quite upset & full of rage !! ..So i stormed back up to this lady friends apartment & knocked on her door with anger but there was no reply..it was then the tow truck arrived & so i gathered what dignity i had left & returned to the Buick explaining to the tow truck driver exactly what just transpired. The tow truck drive was 15 min away from where i then lived..when we reached the garage to where the buick rests.. i said to the tow truck driver " do not go anywhere just yet im going to prove to you that this ghost exhists" & with that i turned the key & the buick started immediately ..!!! I still remember the tow truck driver laughing hysterically shaking his head in disbelief whilst exitng my driveway. I cant put into words the invincibility i felt when the buick started knowing i had something special & that my Buick ghost friend again worked his magic to open my eyes to the truth !
