  1. Thanks, I read somewhere that 1930 to 1941 were the same so I assumed the earlier ones must be different.
  2. Does anyone know where to get a master cylinder kit for a 1929 Plymouth "U" ? They must be different than than the later ones which can be found. Thanks
  3. thanks for the info. Mine has the tab on the manifold bolt on the carb side, but I don't think the hand throttle spring can go to the water inlet bolt as on mine the horn bracket attaches to the water inlet bolts and there is no evidence of any place the spring could go. ( I could sure be wrong)
  4. I'm finishing up the engine and need a picture or description of how the throttle return spring hooks up and what length it is for a 1929 "U". There is a tab with hole welded to the rod that runs just above the starter but I don't know what the spring hooks to on the other end. Mine was missing when I started. Thanks
  5. I have one of these I am working on now, mine is a little better but not much. They are a 1929 Plymouth from the cowl forward, as is the engine and transmission. The trucks have a water pump,, the cars do not. I have most of the wood for patterns. Email for more info if interested. rsorenson43@hotmail.com
  6. Thanks for the info. The body work is the last thing on the list, I wanted to be sure I could find all the parts (had to have some made) and get it running and stopping first I winter in AZ so it will have to wait until next spring to start on the wood. The top and wood are almost identical to yours. There are companies that sell wood kits for the pick up box floor which I will probably try. Haven't sent for the build sheet yet. I thought it was interesting that there were so many different places the serial numbers are located. Lots of people sent me info on where they found numbers but mine on the right side in front of the rear mount for the front spring was different than any others I heard from.
  7. Found the serial number! Had all the wheels off to do the brakes and cleaned the passenger side frame behind the rear mount for the front spring and there it was. P3664, engine is UT 3831. Does anyone know the build date?

    Battery Storage

I have good luck leaving a Battery Tender on mine. My '29 Dodge 6 volt lasted for 7 years last time, I leave it on all the time.
  9. Does anyone know if the steering wheel on this pickup was natural wood or was it painted? I fixed mine so that I can roll the chassis around and it looks like it was painted on the underside at least. The photos I have seen don't show the steering wheel very well.
  10. Whatever battery you decide on, use a 6 volt Battery Tender all the time.I've had cheap batteries last 8 years if you keep them properly charged all the time
  11. Where can you get a good manual on the Carter RJH-08 updraft brass bowl carbs?
  12. No, I haven't found one. In fact I would guess that they are virtually impossibe to find. I can run an electric fuel pump in the meantime.
  13. I was really lucky with the engine ,the bearings and crank were good. I ground the valves and replaced the rings. The worst and most expensive was the carb, most of the components had to be made, dist was shot but I found a replacement & built a new driveshaft for it. The generator was a wreck also, it is being rebuilt by a local guy I use. the starter just needed rebuilt
  14. Here's a quick update on the Merchants express. Overhauled the engine, distributor, carb, starter, generator, distributor drive, and water pump. Started it today on an engine stand, it sounds good. Got 5 new tires and rims 4 real nice wooden wheels from a hot rodder! That's all I've been able to get done in the first year. Still need the water outlet for the cylinder head and a dipstick. The pot metal throw out bearing retainer broke and since they are impossible to find and no good anyway, I am having one machined from steel. Guess I will start on taking the body off and doing the wood this fall.
  15. There is a '29 Plymouth U engine for sale on ebay. 121172618385

  17. I need the cylinder head water outlet for a 1929 Plymouth U silver dome engine. Apparently several years will work. Mine is 3 1/4 inches center to center of studs, takes a 2 inch hose to radiator. Thanks
  18. Thanks for the responses, couldn't find one anywhere online so I went to NAPA and we came up with part #6009-2RSJ . this bearing is the same ID, OD. and width as the original as well as sealed. You press the old bearing off the holder, put the new one on and you're in business.
  19. Thanks, I do have the numbers.
  20. I need a throw out bearing for a '29 Plymouth U. Anyone know where to find one? Thanks
