Lately I have seen across pics of an Australian ride totally unfamiliar to me, Utes. Ute = utility. They are basically modified business coupes with a very short bed in the rear. Kind of neat, I think. GM & Ford both made/make them. Yes, they are still being made down under.

You should be able to move the gear selector from R to N on a non-running car without a problem. If you cannot, there is something amiss?
-
No way should you be starting the car in "R"everse!!
To set the automatic choke you should only need to tap/pump the pedal once. I suspect you may be flooding the engine with your 5 pumps, thus making it hard to start.

found what I was looking for at autofair a couple of weeks ago.. I found a Pontiac air cleaner from a 421 PonTon that is shaped just like the olds oil bath with the correct 4gc throat size. looks good...
Julian, you are showing your age. I have not heard the term "PonTon" in ages!

i found a packard original service manaul it say 20w oil and type a so i think ill go with what they say i hope i can find some lol
Speaking from experience, I too prefer a single weight oil. Back in the day (we are talking the 60's here) all I ever used was 20-20w oil. Maybe non-detergent was for cheapies, but single wt. was not. At any rate, the only place I could locate 20w oil in the 21st century was United Lube. Google it. I ordered 3 cases of the stuff! 30w is still around, as an alternative.

The differential takes SAE 90W gear oil.

1958, right?

This is my very first post so I'm not sure what I'm doing - I'm seeking advice as far as where to find quality upholstery, carpeting, convertible top, etc. Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!
Know very little about Buicks (I am an Olds man!), but were I looking for "quality upholstery" I would start by checking out SMS Fabrics and Legendary Auto Interior. I have used SMS for door panels and can attest to it being quality material and work. SMS Auto Fabrics

The March of 2010 edition of Car Collector Chronicles did a spread on the classic cars of Cuba. It is an interesting read.
It may be found here - Car Collector Chronicles 03-10

If it needs 13" tires, you best start looking now and snatch some up if you are able to find them. I understand they are no longer being made, due to lack of demand.

The ones I really like are the ones that float!

An Oldsmobile legend, without a doubt! I never knew the man, but my brother did. Joe was always willing to share his knowledge and lend a hand when asked.

They were/are called 16 way by Buick. I can't remember anyone being able to name the 16 functions. Just for info, what were the Allante seats advertised as?..... Jim
The Allante only has 10-way seats!

Well, prior to the M-16, the battlefield weapon was the M-14, packing a far more powerful punch with the 7.62 mm round, a.k.a. .308 caliber!
-
There are also way far more 57-58 Olds sporting the J-2 option than the factory ever produced!

Here is the link for the listed site -

I was given a full working copy of this program to review for my newsletter. Quite frankly, I found it so hard to decipher, and so multifaceted as to be next to impossible to understand. So much so that I never even wrote the review. It just occupied space on my hard drive. In other words I did not find it intuitive or practical.

Jim,
Thank you!

As I have a '62 with radials, does anyone have the degree figures that an alignment person should use?

1948 Oldsmobile!

The "no major modifications," especially in terms of body design, is the key. Many folk would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a '53 & '54 Chevy. Likewise, with respect to the '55 & 56' Chevy. Now, why the '57 is grouped with the 55 and 56 is a question in search of an answer.

I do not have the info on hand, but if you will check out the Feb or Mar issue of my newsletter, Car Collector Chronicles (see link in sig), there is an article on these. The article includes the info you need regarding the premiere parts supplier

Welcome to the wonderful world of Olds! It does indeed look like a good find.
I can not answer specifically your battery question, but do know there is no extraordinary cranking capacity requirement for the 394 c.i. engine.
