  1. Thought Kim's cars were pretty cool - what a way to go! A classmate of mine's parents had one of those huge Lincoln sedans - dark green - like riding on a stack of pancakes! I believe Saddam Hussein had some collectible cars and the Shah of Iran and others - good idea for a book - "Cars of State" or something. Vatican collection has a Graham Paige built for the Pope - (I think the only 'offical car' made in the USA?)
  2. Thank you guys - I'm feeling much better now, a little encouragement makes that old wreck look better and better. To answer the big question - it's a 1940 Nash Lafayette model 4010.
  3. I'm working on a $2000 project car thankfully with lots of free help from friends and club members, plus so far I've found some real deals on parts and a few other things. My sticker shock at what things like paint and plating, and labor hours for things my volunteer band and I can't do is pretty frustrating. I've been 'in the game' officially since 1986 and have had the good fortune of owning several nice cars. (I sold most everything due to a major move with my company.) Starting over has been fun but still a challenge. Maybe I should have stayed on the outside looking in. Any encouraging words out there??
  4. 2012 Reliability Team is not quite ready to go to print yet so we'll be adding it in Richmond, Virginia.
  5. Franklinman and all other potential tourists! Thank you for your interest in the 2012 AACA Reliability Tour - IT IS A GO FOR Aug 27-31, 2012 and additional information is being prepared as I write this. The host hotel is the Hampton Inn on Technology Drive in Glen Allen, VA, 804 261 2266 - Reservation code AACA 1915. The first 'official' ad will be in the Jan-Feb Antique Automobile and the tri fold brochure will also be availible soon. Look for our booth at Philadelphia as well. See you there! Andy Fuhrman President Richmond Region - AACA
  6. We picked up some licence plates and wheel covers also a few toys and magazines. Did, however, get a neat looking small solid brass birdcage complete with a little brass bird, swing, food dish etc. Never know what you will find! Some kind of antique chachkee I suppose. Difficult to get a picture of it, sorry. Earlier in the week a friend accepted a prearranged delivery of a pickup load of various parts for my 40 Nash. I'd never met the seller in person but as usual with old car people the stuff was just as advertised, maybe even a few extra items! A really great year!
  7. The Hershey Region and AACA 'Corporate' did their usual great job, but how about the greater Hershey community? Did you see how deep the flood waters had been as you drove around the area? Yet the awesome locals welcomed us all without a single complaint! Firefighters, policemen, septic service guys, restaurant and hotel workers, shuttle drivers, retail and gas station workers and so very many others put on their best faces and were just great to us. A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! Andy Fuhrman Richmond, VA Dansville, NY
  8. Good topic and nice input - the reaction here shows just how much all of us are interested! That's a good thing! I joined AACA at 17 - now I'm 42 and am Past President of two Regions, and I'm still one of the 'young guys!' 99% of the time I've felt welcome anywhere and everywhere in AACA-land. Once in a while I still get the "AACA is for retired people" comment. (Often that comes from someone who joined AFTER I did.) Look for me at Hershey, I'll be the one with two 9 year olds, (4th generation car guys!) The hobby will be OK. Andy Fuhrman
  9. Wanted-Head Gasket 1940 Nash / Lafayette - model 4010 6 cyl Could use a couple good used 600/16 tires and spare wheel rim too! Can pick up at Hershey. May be interested in other 4010 parts - just getting started on the project. Please email: andyfuhrman@rocketmail.com
  10. Last night I had the opportunity to see "The Quest," a documentary film about Chip Miller's #3 LeMans 1960 Corvette. If you haven't seen it yet it's great and I would encourage all our members to check it out. Besides the car's interesting story, the paths of father and son, Chip and Lance Miller and the parts past custodians of the Chevy played were so great to hear. I also learned a few things about LeMans, Briggs Cunningham and various drivers of the day. The venue for this showing was an experience in itself. It was shown at the 83 year old Byrd Theater in Richmond, VA. The actual #3 car was parked on the sidewalk flanked by two other Corvettes. A nearby parking deck had a mini car show with Corvettes young and old and other special interest cars. A number of area car clubs were represented. General admission and VIP tickets were available. Lance Miller and producer Michael Brown greeted guests in the theater lobby. Andy Fuhrman President Richmond Region AACA
  11. I understood Sadam Hussein had a large car collection - wondered what became of it? Didn't know about Pierces in Iran.
  12. Finally our awesome AACA Museum will have a Tucker in the building - coming 7/15. Though I'm dissapointed it's not one of the promised Cammack cars, this is a most generous loan from the Swigart Museum. The membership should send Pat a huge thank you note for it!
  13. We'll get the clubs together some other time. Always a lot going on this time of year. Andy
  14. Last Saturday, June 18th - Richmond Region held it's 42nd Annual car show and swap meet at Richmond International Raceway in VA. A lot of very hard work paid off and we had a great event with lots of cars, vendors and spectators. The 'Ignite' youth program designed & provided at no cost by Hagerty Insurance was a hit and we recommend it to any AACA Region or Chapter. Thank you to all AACA members that came to support us. Visit our website at www.richmondaaca.com and click on car show for photos from our show. We will be hosting the 2012 Reliability Tour, 8/27-8/31 in part to celebrate our 60th anniversary as an AACA Region.
