  2. yea, he has been dead for quite a while.......i think. I called his widow, I called Dave C. the classified editor ...he didnt know....Carleton Bump..his widow had the molds available..but is gonna throw them away..I told Earle B....hoped he might inspire someone to make these for our cars.. I wonder if the other ads in the mag that never seem to change....are any good?? I wrote several with no response...hmmm.
  3. the baatery is a black thing with 2 posts...sounds like u got some add on thing.probably to send 12 volts to starter.....6 to all else......I dont know how it would recharge....but I would loose it and reinstll 6 volt. jb
  4. go to any napa store, have them get u a group2 6 volt batt...should be (2f with posts better located but obsolete ) as these are positive ground,( or pay double thru classic source) unlike modern cars with neg ground...that is the braided cabel stretches over to the positive post...any tractor supply will have a smaller but functional 6 volt battery..works but is 2 inches or so shorter..about 35 buck in ohio...fit is a lot of old tractors i think....you must have some basic mechanical ability..has the system been altered?? does it have plastic different wires added to the oem braided loomed set?? take generator and regulator off..5 bolts total..take to a generator repair shop...every town has one have them checked or rebuilt..starter will work on 6 or 12..much faster on 12 just fine on 6. it is not hard to remove either..2 bolts and a wire...take to same place..very little investment...wire harness available narraghansett wiring service..used to be ed / miki pease nice folks..basic safety updates....no fires please~!
  5. oh c'mon with all the people hot rodding these cars...there are plenty of parts available...keep looking..these were mass produced automobiles...yes, 60 years ago...but chk with merv on the west coast...boos herril where ever they are...or someone on this board.....we have a good group...get out your magazine..except the fact that the classifieds dont ever update or change..there is bound to be someone legit in there..try al whelihan..or the guy in roswell...or look up bennie bloodworrth in ga..he was parting 100 lincolns..or so.......rub that checkbook...if the nice hobbyists cant help...the greedy parts mongers will.....parts are there...maybe bernie holland...call arrington..he rodded a 40..he will prob sell old wheels for a cool grand.. refer to the lzoc website parts guys...

  8. I install modern tube less firestone radials on my stock 40 rims. It rides like a dream at 80...like a Lincoln. The tire spec said 6 inch rim width, i am pretty certain my stock 40's are 5..but they beaded and have work great for the 2500 miles I drove this last summer...I dont like wide whites so it has not been a problem...... I know for certain 41's were wider than 40s..but how much..anybody got some??
  9. 40 LINCOLN SHOCK HAS 1 ADJUSTMENT FRONT OF LEVER..(I BELIEVE 41 MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL CHAMBER ON TOP) FRONT SHOCKS ARE DIFFERENT FROM REARS...FRONT BOLT OUTSIDE OF FRAME...REAR BOLT UNDER FRAME..NOT INTERCHANGABLE. JB OHIO

  11. 40 RIMS ARE 1 INCH NARROWER....41'S HAVE "RAMP" STEP ON 1 SIDE...40'S HAVE STEPPED STRAIGHT RIDGES INSIDE. BOTH SIDES. JB

  14. I TRIED A LITTLE OF THIS AND A LITTLE OF THAT SEVERAL TIMES.......I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE NO FIX UP JOB...ALL OR NOTHING ( IF U PLAN TO DRIVE MORE THAN ON / OFF TRAILER).. BEARINGS..POSS REBORE / RINGS PISTONS...VALVES W/SOLID GUIDES..CAM BEARINGS ..LIFTER BODIES RESURFACED...LIFTERS OR CONVERT TO ADJUSTABLE...HIGH VOL OILPUMP ETC... IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL CRANK, WITH FREEZE PLUGS IN CRANK THROWS..GET A POSTWAR SYLE CRANK LARGER BEARINGS AND BETTER OILING, USES DIFFERENT FLYWHEEL ..BUT ALL BOLTS IN..INSTEAD OF WELDING UP OLD CRANK.... IF THE CRANK IS THAT WORN ..THEN ALL LUBRICATED PARTS ARE SUSPECT.......I WASTED LOTS OF TIME AND MONEY DOING CRANKS....THEN DOING VALVES ....UNTIL A COMPLETE ...REPAIR IT WASN'T WORTH A DARN...NOW IT ZOOMS ...SMOOTH AND QUIET...I WISH I HAD NOT WASTED ALL THOSE PARTS..TIME AND MONEY ON PARTIAL "FIXES" FOR 20 YEARS JEFF LZOC1232 oHIo

I DIDNT ASK ABOUT ALUMINUM HEAD FOR ANY REASON EXCEPT TO TRY TO GET A TOPIC THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING AND TOPICAL..I REMOVED MY ALUMINUM HEADS FOR REPEATED CRACK REPAIRS....AND I GOT THE ANSWERS I WAS LOOKING FOR...SEEMS MOST PEOPLE THAT CAN USE A COMPUTOR...AND DRIVE AN H-V12 HAVE IRON HEADS....BUT THERE ARE STILL PRICY NEW ONES..NOS ONE'S AND OTHERS FLOATING AROUND....AVAILABLE FOR DECENT PRICE..JUST NOT MY BUDGET THIS WEEK!! OK one more time! I have a 40 Z too amongs others, with Aluuminum heads, they are nice to have but it won't correct your cooling problem, Your block is full of junk in the back and until you get it cleaned out your engine won't run cool as it should. Thats why Henery put those freeze plugs on the engines oil pan sealing surfaces. BUT ..MY BLOCK BELONGED TO WHELIHAN, BOUGHT IN THE 70S...OVERHAULED (HALF [censored]) THEN STORED NAKED..GREASED AND SHRINKWRAPPED IN MY CLIMATE CONTROLLED GARAGE FOR 25 YEARS UNTILL I REBUILT IT LAST FALL....IT WAS HOT TANKED AND MACHINED BY RANDY GTROST AT HARTS AUTO MOTIVE IN CECIL OH, WITH NEWFREEZE PLUGS ETC.......AND YES I AM GONNA PULL THE PAN AND TRIPLE CHECK THOSE AREAS THIS WINTER...BUT THE CAR IS VERY DRIVEABLE AT THIS TIME ...II JUST WANT TO GO 80 MPH WITH THE OTHER BIG BOYS!!   16. I SAW THAT ARTICLE IN TWOTZ...PICS AND ALL WITH THE MODIFIED HEAD GASKETS....LOOKED NEAT..BUT I AM AFRAID IT WIL COMPROMISE THE ABILITY TO SEAL WATER PASSAGES. I DIDNT QUITE "GET " THE WAY HE BENT LITTLE STRIPS OF COPPER AND ADHERED THEM TO THE OPENED TRIANGLES....BUT I LOVE THE IDEA.....SEEMS LIKE COMMON SENSE.... I TRIED WITH / WITHOUT THERMOSTATS..THINKING THE STATS WOULD SLOW COOLANT DOWN, TO ALLOW MORE TIME IN THE RADIATOR....BUT IT MADE IT HOTTER..I AM PUZZLED...BECAUSE THE HEAT IS LEAVING THE BLOCK...BEING TRANSFERED TO THE RADIATOR..THE RADIATOR IS VERY HOT......THAT MEANS COOLANT IS DOIN ITS JOB...PUMPS DOIN THEIR JOB...EVEN IF BLOCK HAS SOME" SCALE..THE COOLANT IS HOT AND THAT MEANS HEAT TRANSFER IS TAKING PLACE....BUT THE RADIATOR ISNT RADIATING THE HEAT FAST ENOUGH OR EFFIENCIENTLY ENOUGH..... IT IS A IMPRESSIVE 4 ROW STOCK LOOKING NEW CORE (10 YEARS OLD) IN ORIGINAL TANKS..GOOD CLEAN FINS STRAIGHT FINS....HEAT IS EVENLY DISTRIBUTED ACROSS (BY FEEL) BUT I JUST BOUGHT AN IFRA RED HEAT SENSOR AND AM GONNA GO OUT AND RUN THIS SUCKER 75 MILES AN HOUR THEN CHECK ALL OVER AGAIN TO SEE WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON..........STAY TUNED... I CANNOT TRUST MY GUAGE...I THINK IT IS WHACKED..I AT ONE TIME USED A 12 VOLT SENDER...MAYBE STRESSED OUT THE WINDINGS..HAVE YET TO INSTALL MY NEW ONE...BUT AFTER FIVE MINUTES MOTOR IS WARM..(WITH OR WITHOUT STATS) I HAVE FRESH TIGHT NON SMOKEY MOTOR..ENLARGED HEAD GASKETS..NO BUBBLES IN COOLANT (HEADS MUST BE SEALED)..H/D MODERN 4 ROW CORE IN MY RAD..SKIPS PUMPS..TIGHT BELT..JAKES DIST..PRESSURE CAP 4PSI ON RAD...NO LOSS OF COOLANT..NO BOIL OVER..JUST HOT AS THE DEVIL..SEEMS TO RUN 200-220 ON HWY....OK AT GRANDPA SPEEDS..NOT LIKE THE 1940 WILKE PARADE PICS ..(YOU CAN SEE STEAM FROM THE OVERFLOW IN THE PICS IF U LOOK CLOSE!!) THE CAR HEATS UP ON THE HIGHWAY..2 SPEED ENGAGED MODERN TRAFFIC SPEED..RUNS GREAT..AND TIMING WOULD SEEM TO BE PROPER..VAC BRAKE IS BACKED OFF TO ALLOW CENTRIFIGAL ADV TO OPERATE..HOT STARTS (WHEN NO VAPOR LOCK) IS INSTANT CRANKS RIGHT UP HOT OR COLD..OIL PRESSSURE 20 PSI AT THIS HOT HOT IDLE...INFA RED HEAT SENSOR SHOWED SIMILAR HEATS ACROSS CYL HEAD..REAR OF HEAD A LITTLE WARMER....HELP..ANY IDEAS... It looks just like my glass back in the 70's" little rollers..rubber channel etc i had a hell of a time getting the proper rubber in the frame ..and still not quite right with felt in channels...2/3 tries for vent rubber..back then no one seemd to believe it wasnt a continetal..with very differant vent window design.....top bows were equally fun to obtain..maybe ok now that there are a few out there...i love to look at Clay Nichols beautiful 41 blue car..it is in lots of coffee table books... what ever happened to Mr Nichols?? remember mrs stoekles lincoln: "zephyr hermes (40 sedan)?? j .booth oHIo lzoc 1232
  21. PLENTY OF PARTS AVAILABLE......JUST GOT TO HOOK UP WITH NICE PEOPLE FROM LZOC. THERE ARE ALWAYS A FEW WHO ARE MAKING EXPENSIVE BUISNESS OUT OF OUR HOBBY, BUT IF YOU TRY SOME CLUB SOURCES YOU WILL WEED THEM OUT....THERE HAVE BEEN 2-3 SETS OF FENDER SKIRTS ON EBAY RECENTLY..NOT TOO PRICEY. OUR BELOVED ZEPHYRS HAVE ENGINE THAT MUST BE REBUILT PROPERLY...NOT HALF WAY PATCHED....IT SHOULD RUN SMOOTH..SILENT AND HAVE OIL PRESSURE WHEN HOT......NOT CLATTERING SMOKEY UNDERPOWER OIL BELCHING MESS....
