  1. As one who puts any parts I can find on my cars to get them going when they break I dont do correct restorations,I know the muscle car and tri 5 chevy owners go nuts over correct date codes and casting numbers but is it the same for other 50s on back vehicles. Since I doubt most old cars at the shows have all the parts they came out of the factory with is that a factor when judging them, since I have never been around any big shows with all original vehicles I was wondering if judges have the time to inspect all this or just a basic knowledge of whats its supposed to look like count for judging. I hope this is not a stupid question but kind of always wanted to know and I hope I am not a pain in the you know what for asking.

  2. I am amazed at those who take a basket case and put it back totally original,I just dont have the paitence to wait and find parts so my vehicles are a collection of many years of parts that will bolt on or take minor modifications so I can drive it in a reasonable time. I have built my cars before I got a computer and scrounged all the parts at a few local junkyards that had older cars and swapmeets,I want a 40 Ford for a next project but with the closing of many old junkyards around here it will have to be almost complete or only missing parts that are available in reproduction.

  3. Thats what I needed to know and it does not look like any of my vehicles would ever be allowed in a AACA show, when I put mine togather I use what ever parts I can find. When I redone my 37 Chevy p/u it was missing a bunch of parts and I used a 57 235 (should of used a 54) for the motor and since I could not find any good used or reasonable NOS fenders and running boards I installed fiberglass and a reproduction bed and painted it a color I liked that the paint shop had in stock. When I first got it done it was all original except for the motor, paint and interior material but I did further modifications to make it be able to travel at highway speeds and handle better so if they seen me coming to a show thay would have a cow,I have decided to put a more stock period correct interior in it and trying to make the 235 look like a 216 for fun which has fooled some but the casting numbers will give it away to the experts.

That vehicle would not be permitted to be shown or sold at a national AACA event.

They allow certain modifications to be made, most of them are approved safety items such as seatbelts, battery cut-off switches, etc. But even they must look period correct and be installed neatly. Vehicles can be painted any color available for the year, make and model. Same with the interior, anything that went with correct paint as an option.

Your vehicle does not look as it did, or could have, when it rolled out of the factory. Dealer options, unless they were factory authorized, are not accepted and points are deducted. For the right money dealers would put whatever aftermarket items the owner wanted to make the sale. Those items are non-authentic according to AACA rules.

  4. I wish all the swapmeets would go back to selling old parts, the ones around here are getting full of latemodel parts, tools and junk. This is probably the sign of the times since most of the old parts have been used up and the older guys who usually were there are not in good enough health to do it anymore or deceased so not its the younger crowd with what ever they can get to sell.

  5. While I have modified cars rattling around what little brain I have left what exactly what do they consider a car modified, for example say I have a 40 ford coupe that is lowered slightly and has period correct asseccory flipper hubcaps up front with skirts on the back and it still has the original motor and drivetrain but the motor has a merc crank with aluminum heads and 3 carbs and a dual exhaust. Example # 2 a 40 coupe all original but in 49 the motor blew and a brand new 49 motor was installed at the dealer but the rest is all original, example #3 a completely original 40 but it has about every asseccories that could be bought at the local Western Auto store.

  6. I figured they would be too busy to answer a stupid question and since some on here are members and attend Hershey I figured someone would know the rules and could give me a answer, after the show I will contact them and get the info I need.

  7. So if I came in selling my left over stock parts in my modified 65 country squire or 66 F250 I wont have a problem if I dont put a for sale sign on it,I guess I could haul the parts in my 89 crown vic but it wont have the room the other two have.

  8. Since I only own modified vehicles and would like to get a space and heard about modified vehicles now being banned in the swapmeet area I was concerned about being turned away after I went through the expense to get there and to get a space,I have no problem with them being banned in the show car and car corral fields since it will ruin the integrity of the show and no one wants that.

  9. Some days the morning fog takes a little longer to burn off and I blame it on having too much fun in my younger days and all bumping my head took on the hoods cars I worked on. I also need to do something about the other voices I hear too

Like we keep saying to you, get the answer directly from the Hershey Region. They are the only voice that matters. What other people put on other websites is NOT the voice you need to listen to.
  10. I like looking at the stock vehicles and if thats the way the show and car corral is then it should stay that way,if I go I want to get a space to use as a base to put the parts I buy and I was concerned that if I were to get a space and travel the distance I would not be allowed in due to the vehicles I drive if modified vehicles were not allowed in the swapmeet area. I would be driving either my 66 F250 that I might keep looking stock or my 65 country squire that is basicly a stock vehicle but has been lowered and has torque thrust wheels but it wont be this year.

  11. Even thought I am complaining about the weak swapmeets I kind of contributed to it by selling some of my parts on the internet,I tried selling for a few years with a buddy but I only brought the parts that I really wanted to get rid of and did not care what I got for them as they needed to go. I had some valuable and obscure parts that would of taken me forever to sell at the local swapmeets so I joined car groups on the internet to find buyers and get a decent price out of them and I dont have to pack and unpack,I have found a bunch of parts on ebay that I would of never found at any of the swapmeets I frequent. I liked to sell at one local big show but they raised the space prices and used to give out two vendor passes with a space but then started charging 20 dolars for the extra pass so I quit selling there,I am torn between buying on the internet and going to swapmeets as I lke them both but decided to not go to some that are a couple hour drives and do the one big local and go to Hershey or Carlisle since I have never been to both.

  12. Last weekend I went to what used to be a large swapmeet about 2 hours from the house and came back very dissappointed,it was all I could do to see it in a day and now I was done a little after noon and found nothing. I know it might be the sign of the times but I looked forward to attending every year but I dont think I will go next year,I have noticed it getting smaller and smaller every year and noticed more late model parts too and this time I was looking for more newer stuff and could not find any. I will have to admit that I do like shopping on the internet for some things but I love going to swapmeets and might have to eliminate some and plan on attending one very large swapmeet a year,I doubt it will get better so I just had to vent.

  13. There is no way I could attend this year as my parts hauler is apart for body work and paint right now and I still need to do some work to my camper so maybe next year,I could imagine that is alot of work to put on. My parts hauler (1966 F250) could be considered modified (wheels, lokar shifter and a 460) by some and if there was truth to the rumor about there would be a chance I would not be allowed to enter or told to leave so I was concerned before spending the time and money to get a space,if it was true then I should attend another venue and then everyone involved would be happy.

  14. That not what I read on the other forum but I should go to the horses mouth before reacting,I was probably reading someone interpretation of the rules and they got it wrong and makes me look like a fool so no more of that.

There is no restriction on what you drive to the meet in to sell parts out of just what you can show and sell.
  15. I wish I did a few years ago to find a home for a bunch of extra parts I had,if I go I would like to have a space for like a base camp to put the stuff I bought and not have to take it back to the parking lot. Do they allow people with campers to put them on the space to sleep in over night and to keep watch over their parts,I have been hearing about thefts at big swapmeets lately and if I was selling I would not want to, leave at night.

Do you have a vendor space?
  16. I will ask them before I would buy spaces (if they were ever available to begin with) but was just wanting to see if anyone knew if what I what I read on another forum was true,to me it seems crazy to dictate what type of vehicles vendors have if they are selling approved parts. After watching our government with the crazy stuff they do I dont like seeing other originizations doing the same,if what I read was true how long before they start to dictate what cars are in the spectator parking lots so just think about it. I understand the rules for the show and car corral fields but going after what the vendors drive in just sounds like they are not going in the right direction and just knitpicking. I hope my first post did not affend anyone as I was not completely awake and should of wrote it better and did try to stop it but it got out anyway and not trying to start any trouble but I was concerned with what I had read.
