  1. Those plugs were from before I rebuilt the carb. Choke is working as designed now.
  2. So I wonder if anyone knows what these plugs are? I have never seen any like this.
  3. Agreed. I had a long list of things to address since I intend to drive this car to distant shows and National meets. So I just ordered what Rockauto listed for the 430. I'll be back in there checking to see how they look.
  4. They were only labeled AC "2". You can just make it out on the far right plug in this photo. I put in ACDelco R43TS
  5. I just bought a 1967 Riviera GS. For those that don't know me, I lean towards factory original for most of my cars. This Riv ran and drove when I looked at it to purchase. But I didn't feel like the transmission was shifting early enough. The car had bee in storage for about 5 years, so I didn't dwell on it, figuring it would simply need service if it didn't just loosen up on its own. After I got it home I went through all the tune up stuff and a rebuild of the original Quadrajet. That's when I discovered that the Detent and Idle switch on the carb linkage was broken. The parts were all just sitting inside the rubber bellows and when you pressed on the accelerator it basically just folded out of the way. The end result was that the switch was constantly fully compressed into the WOT position. After studying the issue I realized that the top part of the nylon plunger had broken off at the point where the inside threaded rod ends. Fortunately that nylon plunger was actually threaded much deeper, so I know if I could extend the length of the threaded rod, it would support all the pieces in their correct places and operate the switch. So I got 2 inch 10-32 screw and cut off the head, then I cut the original eyelet leaving it with a short stem. I welded the two and put it all back together. I was easily able to get the adjustment as described in the service manual done when I put the rebuilt carb back on the car. Lots of rain here in the last couple days, so I will get to a proper test drive soon and report back if this solved the transmission issue.
  6. Coming along well. As you can see in the photos it was running a bit rich 😱. As I may have mentioned earlier this car was prepped for the RM Auburn auction in 2018. The clear focus of the work was to make it look perfect, but not so much to function perfectly. So I knew I was doing a thorough "go thru" under the hood. I rebuilt the Qjet, replaced all the vacuum lines, fixed the broken dashpot, replaced cap, rotor, plugs, wires and so on. I had a fussy time with the fuel inlet on the Qjet as it had been replaced with one of the self tapping types and still had a small drip. I wound up using some gasoline resistant thread sealant to get it sealed up. I also had to repair/restore the kickdown switch; I will likely make a separate post on that later. Now it starts and runs great. However, it is raining here, so a proper test drive will need to wait a few days.
  7. That's what I suspect too. I have some Dynamat knock off here that I can put in.
  8. So I am removing the back seat this morning and I found this old shabby insulation. Did the factory do anything like this? It looks more like something you put in your house walls.
  9. Yeah, I went through the same thing on the 9-3/8 unit in my 71 Boattail. ☺️
  10. Will do. I did a quick look, but I'll take a closer look when I do the mufflers. 👍
  11. So now that I have had it for a couple weeks, here's a few updates. The new turn signal switch has been installed. I have patched the holes in the mufflers with some sheet metal while I am waiting for Waldrons to make and deliver new ones. I got the redline tires (from Diamondback Classics) mounted and balanced and installed today. I found that the clock has been retrofitted with an electronic works. And the distributor has been fitted with a Pertronix 1181. The air cleaner has been fitted with a K&N air filter (the type you have to wash and oil) but it is a slightly larger diameter than the stock. I bought a Wix paper filter but I have not decided yet if I am going to swap that. I ordered a script battery, but they seem to take a couple months, based on recent experience. While doing the tires I did check both front and rear brakes, and they are like new. I've removed the radio (AM/FM non-stereo), and front speaker because the speaker was nearly dead. I have bench tested the radio with two new speakers; but I am waiting for a fader I ordered from eBay to arrive before I put that all back together. But as long as I had the center A/C vent removed, I fixed that so it no longer just drops all the way down under its own weight. I found it is kind of tricky to get this X frame lined up safely on my two post lift. It can be done, but it has to be placed exactly centered and not too far forward. All in all, I'm having fun so far. Next up will be the fuel system and carburetor, since the gas in there is 5 years old.
