  1. We heard a news report while we were in Pa. last week. A man had an accident and all it did was knock off the front license plate. He got out to get it, a trucker jack-knifed his truck and hit the man, the car and the man's son that was still in the car. Both the man and the son died at the scene. All for a stupid license plate. They had both been unhurt by the first accident.

Please remember to be careful after an accident. It is recommended that you get away from the vehicle as many times there is a second accident when drivers see the first one and jam on their brakes. I have seen people stand by the back bumper like they can prevent their car from being hit. And if you do stay in your car, keep your seatbelts on just in case.

  2. We own a 1939 Dogdge four door sedan. It was cheap so Bill bought it. A kid has been going to street-rod it and someone "Coked" his gas tank right afer he got the engine redone and he had no money to do anymore work on it. So a guy in a junkyard in Green Castle, Pa. had it. I think Bill found it in Hemmings.

The 1963 1/2 Sprint goes back to Bill's youth. He had a new hard-top version when they came out. He couldn't afford the convertible which is what we have now.

We had a 1958 Chevy Biscayne but he sold that to a guy out of Fla. We were only the second owners of it. (I am still mad mad.gif at him for selling it...and he knows it.) Bill put two ads in Hemmings. One for the '58 Chevy and one for the '66 Alfa Romeo. The guy wanted both cars so Bill sold them both to him. At least I will only need two pallbearers when he dies because trash cans only have two handles. grin.gif

If he even thinks of selling the Sprint he knows he better just jump in the can before I stuff him in there....head first. shocked.gif

  3. Technically it is the first muscle car. It was put out because the Mustang was not going to be ready when promised. So they dropped a V-8 engine in the Falcon and chromed a bunch of stuff under the hood. Hopefully within the next year or two ours will be on the showfield. It is a neat car to drive and so much better looking, to us, than the 64 or 65. We like the rounder profile of ours as compared to the wedge look of the 64 or 65.

  4. Those tags are a "rock and a hard place" item. Especially the ones that were put on buy actually drilling holes in the trunk. Like I said, those if in good condition would not get a point taken off by me. There is more risk in taking it off and filling the holes and having to sand and repaint. Sorry, not going to put someone through that. But others might. So I say play it safe, display the one you have on a board or plaque until you get the awards you want and do whatever you want with it after that.

  5. I have judged exteriors a lot. If I were to look at a car with a tag on the trunk I would look to see if it might damage the car to take it off. If so then I would not deduct for it being there. If it could be easily removed without damage, but had not been, then I would take a point off. If it could not be removed, but was in bad shape I would take at least a point off, more if it was in really crummy shape.

I will tell you that I do not rememeber seeing a tag on a truck since I started judging. That tells me that owners are removing them.

If it did not have one I darned sure would not add one while it was still coming up through the judging process.

  6. Several years ago Bill and I saw a beautiful "Marmon", not sure what year, that was at a couple of AACA shows. It had been painted in purples, lavenders and pinks which earned it the nick-name "The Easter Bunny". It was for sale at the second show we saw it at. It was owned by an older couple that paid to have it professionally restored. The guy that restored it was with them.

Does anyone know where "The Easter Bunny" is now?

  7. Speaking of the "Funky Chicken", the college I went to had a mascot that was the W.Va. Tech "Golden Bear". It was supposed to be a secret as to who the mascot was each year. And it was....right up until the mascot got out on the basketball floor and did the "Funky Chicken" at half-time. There was only ONE tall, skinny guy that did that dance. So even with the mascot suit on we all instantly knew who it was. grin.gif

  8. Close Dynaflash8. It should be embroidered rather than embroderied. But we all know what you meant. smile.gif

As for not liking the tags and plate frames. The tags are hard to clean around, they gather polish dust that is hard to remove and the metal ones get stuff stuck under them and can stay damp and cause rust. The vinyl ones can peel and look crummy if poor quality vinyl is used. So we take the vinyl ones off and ask that they not put the stick on metal ones on to start with. The plate frames many times cover part of the license plate and Bill and I believe that the plate should be unobstructed. The plate is there as identification and should be easy to read. I do have one of the "barbed wire" plate frames on my PT Cruiser, but it is thin and only covers the outside edges and does not cover any of the rest of the plate.

  9. We don't like the dealership "tags" or license plate frames either. And the minute we get home the frame comes off and the tag is removed if it can be taken off with no damage. Most of the ones around here put a vinyl type decal on so they come off fairly easily.

If I walked up to a car and it had the drilled hole style I would not deduct for that. I don't expect owners to risk damaging the car for something the dealer did. But if the car did not have one I would not add one and risk a point deduction. The more of anthing a car has, the more points that can be taken off for condition if nothing else.

  10. I agree with you and think that for now the plaque/display is a super idea.

And something that every person showing a car should remember. ONE point can make or break your ability to get an award. If you are one point outside the cut-off you will not get the award you could have gotten. So this is where you do "sweat the small stuff".

  11. I can understand where they are coming from. I am on the board of a group that this year matched 2,620 kids with sponsors to buy Christmas presents for them. To be on the board to to have to have been with the group for a year, come to general meetings and have worked with the actual program. We do not have any "corporate" or "figurehead" board members. Because we don't want someone getting into power and changing the direction of the effort, which was founded by two wonderful people.

It amazes me that a bunch of stonecutters can take a piece of rock, bring it to life and you can see expression and emotion in his face.

Do you have a shot that shows how much is done?

  12. I just never put the two, the name and the face, together until I came to the forums and he was here. smile.gif Now I can picture his smiling face when I read his messages.

We read them before we cut them up and recyle the rest. laugh.gif If we kept all of the publications we get, and we get less than we used to, the house would fall into the basement from the sheer weight. Paper is heavy. And lots of what is in them is ads. tongue.gif So why keep ads for things we will never buy? And by setting up files for what we do keep it makes it easier to find the informations when we, or someone else, needs it. grin.gif

  13. I want someone to make them in "adult" sizes so that we big kids can enjoy them again. I never had one myself but friends did and they sure were fun. Guess that is how I came to collect them. Everything from the full size ones down to the tiniest ones that Hallmark makes.

Hope you sell a lot of tickets laugh.gif, but pick mine please. grin.gifgrin.gif
