Hi - Could you post a picture of the back of your gauge assembly so i could have a "clear shot" of the speedometer hookup.  I'm trying to figure out why mine doesn't work.  The odometer works, but the speedometer doesn't and I figure that I'm somehow not getting the speedometer cable connected correctly.  Thanks.

Here's a gauge cluster on eBay with lots of photos.

  2. Well, shortly after I got this car I experienced a fireworks show behind the gauge glass and it appeared to be coming from the gas gauge. All gauges worked before this happened and now the amp and gas gauges do not and the battery will drain while the car is running.  The car has been totally rewired and I don't see any burned wires. The fuse just to the right of the amp gauge at the bottom of the photo is not burned out so I'm guessing the problem must be inside the gauge.

ANYONE HAVE A PART NUMBER FOR THE GAUGE ?

  3. Is it true that if the amp gauge on my '33 Plymouth is burned out internally that the electrical system will not recharge itself ?

Can someone here give me the part number for that amp gauge ?

  4. I had the exact same problem when I first got my 56 New Yorker.  I could drive a few miles but after that the brake light stayed on and the car would barely roll under power.  All wheel cylinders and rubber lines were new looking so I installed a new master cylinder and flushed the system.  Problem solved!  I think the old one was gummed up.

I have a trans with a permanently locked out freewheeling bracket, you can always leave cable wired to it ( drill for cable and attach to bracket) this way you can be sure it won't accidentally in gauge

  6. Hi Dave,

Supposedly the repair shop cleaned all the contacts in the solenoid and bench tested it with the solenoid installed.  My friend removed it and brought it to them both times so this is only what I was told.  It looks like Kanter has a solenoid but they want a fortune for it.

I guess if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.  I'll try tapping on it next time I try it out.  Thanks !

Does your starter and solenoid look just like mine in my initial post ?

  7. Well, supposedly the starter/generator repair shop did this.  In fact I brought it back to them a second time.  I've never had this happen before but could the starter be out of alignment ?  I've r and r'd plenty of old MoPar starters but they were all the older foot pedal stomp type.  I've been working on another car lately and haven't gotten back to this problem yet.

  8. I was told by the man who built the truck that the rear end was a 3.0 from a 1965 Ford.  I use to regularly drive the truck over Donner Summit (7200' elev) from Grass Valley, Ca. (2500' elev)  to Reno, Nv.  The engine he installed was a transplant from a low mileage fire truck.  I used the truck daily in my construction business. It use to have a lumber rack on it and hauled materials to my job sites.

I was so impressed with that setup that I installed a 251 Chrysler and 65 T-Bird 3.0 rearend in my next old  '52 1/2 ton in 1998.  I'm still driving "Old Yeller" today.

  9. Hey, thanks for the photos !  I have wondered what ever happened to the "Ice Cream Truck" as we called it.  I owned it from about 1991 until 1998 and sold it so I could buy  more building materials for the house pictured.  The truck served me well.

    Looks good !

What are your plans for it ?

  10. Suddenly one day a few months ago my 39 Chrysler Royal with a 241 L6 would only make a clicking sound when depressing the starter button.  I pulled the starter and took it to a place that rebuilds starters and it still doesn't work.  Just clicks still even though I installed a new battery and a new starter button.  Anyway.....anyone know where can I find this type of solenoid shown in the photo.  It's different than most I've seen.

    Thanks

  11. Well,  godfreedaniels !  It's gone.  The previous owner powder coated some of these parts and did not put the plate back.  SMS Auto Fabrics wanted the numbers from it so they could figure out what upholstery was installed with the car.  I need to re-do the fabric parts of the seats and door panels.  It's like this sample but more of a coral color.  My car is a '56 New Yorker Newport.

    Thanks for the help !
