1. Here are some overalls (fading sunlight of early evening not optimal, but did the best we could) of that oh-so-nice '73 GS that I saw at the Derby, CT "Heav'nly Donuts" cruise night this past Sunday evening, September 22, 2013:

Believe that was a real Lambo in the background of image #2, and that brass Model T in the background of image #4 was spectacular as well. A knowledgeable Crosley friend of mine also mentioned that the one in the background of #4 was a '39 model.

  2. Here's a pretty cool '68 Skylark Convertible I ran across at a very small cruise night gathering last night (Sunday, September 22, 2013), in North Haven, CT--in fact the few cars that were there were already starting to leave, when I got there, right around the published start time (5:30pm or so)... Nice vanity plate too...

    post-34222-143142202766_thumb.jpg

I took the pictures from the driver's seat of my '60 VW Bug, as I kind of drove slowly around the Skylark...

Headed out to another cruise night in Derby, CT right after that, that was very well attended--and saw another cool Buick there too, so stay tuned...

  3. Thanks! That's encouraging, a lot of people don't even know we build cars in the US.

I love it there, however they do give me a hard time about owning a Buick.

I am a VW & Buick owner--I like 'em both, and they certainly both have their places in the automotive enthusiast world!

I am very glad to hear that work at the TN plant is going well!

    Two thumbs up!

  4. I had some fun this past Sunday (9/15/2013) with some local-area driving in my '60 Bug, on which I just finished up installing a "hot rodder" header exhaust system wth "glasspack" muffler. Sounded sweet as we wound through the gears! Gorgeous afternoon to be out and about on the CT Shoreline...

Couple shots from the previous day's "installation party," below, also.

I also had to do some fiddling with one of the axle boots that I had installed a few months ago, and which had created an "Exxon Valdez" situation on my garage floor over time. Hoping I got it right this time.

    So, that's about a '50 model?

  6. "Shoreline Oktoberfest," at the Guilford Fairgrounds, Guilford, CT...

This sounds like a LOT of fun, benefits great causes, and has specific *auto enthusiast participation* aspects! I am not connected with the organizers, but I am sure hoping to be able to participate!

  7. Was a few cars behind an old MGB on I-95 southbound this morning (Wednesday, September 11th, 2013), heading over the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge (a.k.a. "Q Bridge"), in New Haven, CT.

EDIT: The significance of driving over the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge on September 11th just occurred to me...

Anyway, never got close enough to the MG guy for any better shots (I was driving my decrepit Taurus wagon and didn't want to over-tax it; the MG guy was keeping up a very healthy pace)...

    post-34222-143142185423_thumb.jpg

They fairly recently (last month or so)opened up the southbound lanes on the new deck of the bridge, so that is pretty new roadway we're driving on. A bit of New Haven skyline was visible in the background on this hazy morning...

(Sorry to hear of the recent forum technical issues--thanks Peter and all for your work dealing with it)

  8. My brother in law, who is an experienced set-designer for high school dramatics productions, created a "disguise" for our '70 Bug that was completely non-harmful to the car, for use in a fun little very informal "village" parade, on Monday, September 1, 2013, in the Short Beach section of Branford, CT. I think he did a pretty nice job! And the spectators seemed to like it too!

Also kind of makes you think back to the old VW "folklore" about Beetles being able to float...

    post-34222-143142177124_thumb.jpg

I heard a comment from a family member who was at the staging location for the various floats, where, apparently the village "judging team" review and decide on "best of" awards for the various home-made floats. Apparently one of the judges remarked that this VW was the only float in the entire parade to display an American flag. Interesting, for whatever it's worth...

Mrs. Stock Steve was out and about with her '63 Karmann Ghia that morning also (she is at the wheel of the '70 in the above parade action shot--I was behind the camera), supporting the parade group effort by her family...

Not technically "driving" (at least not in this blurry indoor picture), but on the previous day I replaced the clutch in my gnarly but beloved '69 Bug (and I did take it on a local neighborhood test drive to check/verify clutch adjustment)...

    post-34222-143142177142_thumb.jpg

Sure is nice to have that car driveable again! One the most fun cars to drive in our very humble fleet...

  9. Drove my 1939 Dodge D11 to work today. Got some waves and smiles driving through the Capital City. Here is a shot of it at my office. My Boss' Mini Cooper is in the back ground, she tried to talk me into trading cars.

I think it's great that you were able to drive your old car to work! I like to do that also, whenever possible. Best wishes for continued Happy Motoring with that cool '39 Dodge!

  10. This poor VW Type 181 "Thing" looks to have been sitting for QUITE some time, in a driveway in Branford, CT. I took this picture earlier this year, on Monday evening,May 13th, 2013:

    post-34222-143142163669_thumb.jpg

Believe that Things were only sold in the U.S. during the 1973 and 1974 model years, so presumably this is one of those two years. If I had a view of the rear fenders, and could look for those added-on air intake "boxes" ('74s had them--'73s did not), I could probably narrow it down.

  11. Earlier in August, specifically Friday evening, August 2nd, 2013, I drove my gnarly '69 Bug over to the North Branford, CT "Potato & Corn Festival" Classic Car Cruise, and had a wonderful evening walking around and checking out all the cars. Reference: Car Show

    post-34222-143142163644_thumb.jpg

The '69's clutch was starting to show signs of slippage by that time, however, and I haven't driven it a heck of a lot since, waiting for a good opportunity to yank the engine to put in a new clutch disk. Maybe can find some time this coming Labor Day Weekend to do it... We shall see...

These last two shots were from later the same evening, Friday, August 2nd, 2013.

    post-34222-14314216366_thumb.jpg

I sure do miss driving that car, and have to get that clutch done before all the good "Convertible Driving Weather" passes me by...

  12. Here are a couple of detail views of that super-nice, super-original-looking '87 Grand National, as seen at the North Branford Potato & Corn Festival classic car cruise night, Friday evening, 8/2/2013, in North Branford, CT:

Next time we'll move on to the OTHER super-nice, and at least somewhat modified-looking black '87 Grand National that was at the North Branford event...

  13. Back again to the North Branford Potato & Corn Festival classic car cruise night, Friday evening, 8/2/2013, in North Branford, CT...

Today just one quickie insert--some overall views of a VERY nice '87 Grand National, that, from what I could see, was a totally stock, super-well-preserved specimen.

It had a window sticker displayed in the front windshield, however I could not get a good photo of that. I was able to discern from looking at (my crummy photo of) it, however, that this '87 GN had originally been delivered to Antonino Buick-Nissan in Norwich, CT originally (wonder if they're still in business?), had a total of $6,231 in options, and a $414 destination charge, computing out to a grand total sticker price of $18,207.

In addition to the $3,574 option price for all the "Grand National" stuff (added on to the basic '87 Regal 2-door coupe), another couple of big-ticket options were the "Hatch Roof" at $895, adn the "Delco-GM Graphic Equalizer Cassette Tape & EIR AM Stereo FM Stereo Radio With Seek and Scan, Auto Reverse with Search, Repeat, and Clock" (whew) at $504.

Overall-type views now, a couple of detail shots next time. Cool vanity plate!

  14. Back again at the North Branford Potato & Corn Festival classic car cruise night, Friday evening, 8/2/2013, in North Branford, CT, this time with the final series of shots of the fantastic & super-eye-catching Electra 225 and Skylark pair...

    post-34222-143142150225_thumb.jpg

Let's see, next time I think we move along to an awesome black '87 Grand National--but *not* the same one that was previously shown in one of the overall shots... So please do stay tuned...
