  1. One more for now from our Car Corral browse on Wednesday of Hershey Holy Week... This '41 Ford Woodie was really sweet. We talked with the seller a bit--nice fellow--I think I recall his saying the car may have had Cape Cod roots(?). At any rate, I think it must've sold because we came thru there a day or so later and it appeared to be gone. Really attractive car... I had never seen that ribbed "inner" type of trim ring before--I am not sure if it's rare or not, but just liked it and took a picture... Have a good evening, and we'll be back for more browsing next chance we get...

  2. We finally made it to the Car Corral, and this starts out a long browse through this fun area of Hershey, with many photos snapped along the way--however not always very much information gathered in the process (sorry). First stop for a quick photo was this beautiful Lincoln Town Car, sporting an HPOF badge. Sorry, no idea of the asking price, and enlarging my photo to try to discern some information from that washed-out window card was not fruitful at all. The Wikipedia page says that these first generation Town Cars were made '81 thru '89 (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Town_Car), so this one must've been somewhre in there. Sorry once again for no other pictures nor info on this big awesome Lincoln!

Here is my favorite Steve - 1921 Rolls Royce from Boardwalk Empire TV show - in the car corral - dropped 30K over the weekend - but still out of my reach.

Oh man, that's cool! I have to confess that I did not look closely at that one (maybe some subconscious feeling that it was "out of my league"?!). Very interesting to hear your observations on the pricing thru the weekend... Thanks for chiming in!

  4. One more for today... Kool, "low-gloss"/"patina" '52 Plymouth wagon in the flea market.. Sure wish I'd at least attempted to take a picture of the engine, which, as I recall, was pretty darned cool, with dual carbs, etc... The best I can do is a crop of the original photo, and then some electronic enhancement to bring out the slightest bit of detail...

  5. Took a lot of photos at Hershey this year, as usual, and would like to post an occasional one or two, as I can find the time... And would more than welcome anyone else who'd like to post favorite photos from the 2014 Hershey Experience as well--be it flea market, car corral, car show, etc. (speaking for myself, I took photos at all of the above)...

Will start it off with just one photo for now, from the flea market. It think we saw this cool little cast iron cat on our first day of flea market browsing (Wednesday), but the next time we walked by the space, it was gone... Just goes to show you that all sorts of interesting treasures can be found at Hershey!

  6. I will take the opportunity of this thread to mention something regarding the way cars "should be parked"--or, perhaps more accurately, "should remain parked" throughout the entirety of the show on Saturday...

... Imagine my surprise, coming back to my car about 45 minutes later, to see that this guy merely wanted to put his car "on display", parking diagonally and nearly perpendicular to the row of cars in my class, front wheels cocked, as if his car were Marilyn Monroe lying on her side, bosom overflowing her gown, with a "come hither" look.

True, he didn't leave the show field, but he DID leave his original parking space...

I'm pretty sure I walked by that same car, parked as you described, and was wondering what the heck was going on with it. In the situation as described, it shows a lack of respect for the event, and for one's co-participants.

  7. As a first time Hershey attendee and a Rambler Marlin owner, I was surprised that I did not see a single Marlin anywhere.

There was a nice silver one in the flea market last year, that I think also had an HPOF badge on it (so perhaps it made last year's Saturday car show). Did not run across it this year. I will see if I can locate a picture of it from last year...

  8. Saturday car show seemed well-attended by cars and spectators, from what we could see on our fairly quick walk-thru. Like was proven last year (which was also very rainy), this car show field seems to drain very well, and we did not see any obvious muddy areas. Great job as usual by Hershey Region and everyone who made it possible.

  9. Nice shots, Marrs--love the "patina" on that Chevy Pickup! Chevy, "special" Ford, and Buick shots also great--thanks Pomeroy for sharing!

I was semi-quick-on the draw driving to work early this morning (Friday 11/8/2013) and caught this ratty-cool lowered VW Bug on the Merritt Parkway, crossing the Housatonic River, and heading on into Stratford, CT southbound...

  10. I didn't drive an old car to it--but I noticed that a lot of people did--and not just for the special "hot rods display" parking area that was set aside (the event was staged by a hot rod club, and it is certainly their prerogative to set aside space for that), but also several cool older vehicles were seen in among the "riff raff" spectator parking also, at yesterday's positively awesome "CSRA Fall Swap Meet" that was held at the Lake Compounce amusement park's expansive parking area in Bristol, CT (right near ESPN world headquarters, as a matter of fact). It was a tremendous day for it, and the crowds were unbelievable. Fun times! I will try to add a photo or two here once I get a chance to...

"CSRA" stands for Connecticut Street Rod Association, who are a great group of people, and who donate many, many dollars to very good charitable causes.

  11. Here's me in the gnarly '69 Bug crossing the bridge over the Housatonic River which forms the boundary between towns of Milford and Stratford, CT, this morning around 9am or so. This bridge also demarks the intersection between the Wilbur Cross Parkway and the Merritt Parkway, which are continuous, and are otherwise known as CT Route 15. I am heading southbound so I am close to, if not already on, the Merritt, at the time of this shot.

The Bug's really a lot of fun to drive, but has no heat (right now anyway--I have heater boxes, but no heater box control cables--have to get that done eventually); thankfully it's fine with the windows and top up for now, and should be for a good while to come yet this season...
