  1. I am happy to report that my Reatta has been sold. Apparently my girlfriend's parents took a liking to it and offered to buy it to cruise around in. I am sure they will like it alot. I want to thank everyone that cared enough to give me their opinions and advice when I needed it. I hope I have been able to add the same value to someone else on this forum. Again, thank you very much. Quincy Cummings
  2. It was from another car with lower mileage...Can't afford a crate motor right now.Perhaps I will buy one if I decide to keep the car longer...
  3. My oil pressure at idle and at speed is anywhere from 39PSI +,I have never seen the oil pressure read low, nor has the car alerted me to such. The engine may use a quart per 1000 miles, more than I'd like, but nothing I thought was alarming. It does not leak or burn oil. The last code I saw this afternoon was an E014 which was a high coolant temp code from when I was running the car without the belt to isolate the sound. Don't think the ECM is running on closed loop, but I can check on the way home from work tonight. I took it to two garages and they are telling me the same thing. I can tell something is wrong and I don't think it is the exhaust as I originally thought. This car...
  4. Well folks, I found out the problem is a bad main bearing. I had the engine replaced a month ago,so it is still under warranty. Wish me luck as my car gets another heart transplant. Thank you very much for your help on this problem.I'll keep you posted as to my progress. -Q
  5. You said: Bottom end problems will be revealed by knocking main bearings-audible low pitch rattling and eventually seizing/ squealing/ rods out through the sides of the engine block if it lasts that long. You're really on your last legs when the engine gets to that state. My question: Are these noise audible both inside and outside of the car? I only hear this noise inside the car with it in gear, and it is a distant "rapping" sound/slight vibration. Can main bearings be fixed, or is a new engine or rebuild required? I don't think this is my problem, but I am curious to find out more information.
  6. I ran the service modes and saw the EGR and O2 indicators flashing. Those are an easy fix. Given that I think of the worst case scenario, should I be thinking if the problem is in the bottom end of the motor. In fact, what are the characteristics of a motor that is developing "bottom end" problems?
  7. Does anyone think this "loping" could be a potential engine problem? My mechanic thinks the problem could be in the engine....
  8. Do you suggest I replace the bellcranks when I put in the new headlight motors?
  9. Barney, How much do you charge for headlight motors?
  10. My mileage is good, and it does not seem like a misfire. Its hard to explain, it almost like a vibration...
  11. Hello everyone, My car runs great, but when I come to stoplights where I have to sit for awhile, I hear and feel a lope. It occurs when the car is in Drive and at idle (750-800 RPM). I am wondering if it is a loose motor mount or exhaust fitting. When the car is idling in Park or diving at a steady speed, the lope in undetectable. Can anyone help me?
  12. Hads mine replaced recently.Starter was not removed.
  13. The fuse is labeled CIGAR and is located in the fuse panel on the right side of the console.
  14. Yeah okay ,you got me! I'll keep her. Its been the only car I've owned that I want to hold on to. I plan to put another alternator in it today and keep rolling. Thank all of you for the support...hope I can provide the same to you. Now if I could find some decent factory wheels...
  15. After spending nearly 400 dollars on suspension and other items, the alternator failed yesterday. I am thinking of selling this car after I fix the alternator, but before I do, I thought I would seek some inspiration to keep it from other Reatta owners. Can anyone share some feedback with me?
  16. I think it is common to feel a slight pulsation in the brake pedal on start up as the ABS system checks itself or pressurize, so that may not be a problem. Its not common to find a front wheel drive V6 GM car with a turbo, but someone cold put one in if they had a lot of time and cash. If that was the case, I am sure the previous owner would have told you even if as a selling point. I guess I would look for a lot of extra "plumbing" under the hood and maybe check to see of the exhaust manifold appears to have been replaced or fabricated. 3800 V6 engines have a fair amount ot torque, but it should feel smooth, not the acceleration rush normally associated with turbocharged cars. The noise could be from the wind against a misplaced or "shifted" body panel. Air leaks are common on cars that have sustained front end or side damage. I would suggest you take an afternoon or weekend to get to know your car so you can spot items that may be option or should not be there in the first place.
  17. I will take the tape deck. E-mail me at quincy.cummings.L08z@statefarm.com
  18. The items the car needs are an easy fix albeit expensive. The cradle concerns me as I have seen what happens when they fail, which is disastrous. The other items are normal wear. In my opinion I think you are being charged a reasonable amount for the car as long as you can keep the price closer to 2 grand. I bought my Reatta with 109K for $2,000 from a private owner.
  19. I reset the ECM and the SES light never came back on.
  20. Sorry if this is long, but I am in need of serious help here! I wrote in a week or two ago ( post:Headlight Drama) about my headlights not opening fully. I raised the to the "up" position and unplugged them so they would not go down when I switched the lights off (the retract button is not working). I had a minor electronics breakdown two days later when I blew the fuse to the Central Power Supply (which took out the CRT and IPC temporarily) trying to figure out why my cassette play was not working. I plugged the light motors back in on Saturday and the lights won't go up or down anymore. What did I do wrong?
  21. Ok guys, I have a good one: Where in the HELL do you find rear struts for this car? I have called everywhere and no one seems to make them for this car. Second question: Are the rear struts for a Reatta the same as for a Riviera? -Q
  22. Anybody got a cassette player for sale. I'll even take one that needs a belt as i have several awaiting installation at home.
  23. I live in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois which is about 120,000 in population. Not much traffic relative to big cities, but a lot of stop and go because of the lay-out of the streets and traffic lights on the main thoroughfares. When I bought the car,I remember it giving better mileage- at least for the three hours the motor lasted before failing. Replacing the 88 motor I put a 1990 engine (with low miles) in the car which I think came out of a LeSabre or Park Avenue. Its only been 2 weeks since I began driving the car in earnest, so I wonder if the computer is still "relearning" or if I needed to have put the 90 ECM in the car when i did the engine swap. I think I will start with a fuel filter and a o2 sensor before considering problems with the ECM though... Other than the fuel mileage, it runs great and has not given me any trouble or errors.
