You could ship by rail but it will be a lot cheaper and safer to go get it yourself with a pickup. Rent a trailer when you get there U Haul. No duty coming back in if its a car built in the states.

Was it Joan Crawford? Who took many publicity shots with a new 39 Ford convertible. ?

I bought a rt hand drive 1929 Franklin DC phaeton . in Florida that came from Montevideo Uruguay. When I started to dismantle the car for restoration I instantly noticed the old leather holster mounted on the lower cowl where the driver could easily pull the gun. Behind the panel board was spent and unspent 38 Cal brass. I restored this car in 18 months and it won every award the first time out. The president on the H H Franklin club owns it today and it still looks as good as the day I finished it. (almost 30 years ago)

Ron ,Bolting a frame together on a antique car that is going to be driven is not a good idea. Its not a big job to replace hot rivets with a few simple tools and another set of hands. My 80 plus year old dad and I completely installed all new rivets in my Mitchell in about 8 hours. Its fine to bolt the frame together for the purpose of squaring it up during reassemble , but then remove the bolts one at a time when replacing the rivets. Bolts will shake loose.

Forgive me for my rambling .... But it just came to me the car Ralph considered the "Haulmark of his holdings" The Cunningham Touring car made here in town Rochester NY. He really revered that car. I think it was mid 1920s.

Of coarse the Big Franklin he had was a 1910 Model H touring. The car was bought by Ralph from Art Kenniff on the Long Island NY. Ralph was a good mechanic but that Franklin was one he never could make run reliably . Nether could Art Kenniff.... The car was a not high end restoration from a rusty car. The body was all new construction. I remember looking at the rims and rings on the wheels and seeing the heavy pitting, was curious how long they were in the dirt and where. When Ralph bought the Franklin he swapped in a sharp 1936 Ford phaeton to Kenniff. Amazing what you remember when you try.

Another car that just came to me was a very rough Ames bodied Model T race car with wire wheels. It was very rough but quite intact. I think he wanted 3500 .

Sunbeam keeps coming to mind for the car in the basement , but I need to think on it some more..

I bought a 1920s Franklin touring from Ralph when I was in my 30s. (30 years ago) I remember after telling Ralph how much I admired the Crane .\, He said jump in! He took me for a 20 minute ride. Another interesting car he had was a Babcock touring all original. In the basement of his house was a huge touring he was restoring. Ill have to think about it for a few days to remember the make. The Crane was a great driving car.

Ed, you should, if you haven’t already, start recording all of this information or fun interesting car facts (If you will), on paper or electronically. So if you never get around to writing your book the stories will live on. Some guy like Walt could then write it and make a fortune selling it to guys like me and other car guys. Then he could spend that fortune having all the fun with wine, women and Crown Royal you missed out on!
Seriously it would be a great car book to read.
dave sIts hard to sell something that is given away free!

Mike, As one responder said McMaster Carr sells black oxide hardware. They also sell plain steel hardware that you can oxidize yourself. There are many suppliers of the chemicals for black oxide. Also if you just want to do a few, most gun shops sell small bottles/cans of the oxide chemicals in blue, black and brown.
Good idea.
