  4. Here it is...BTW,check the buy/sell forum regularly.
  5. I own a Teal Blue Metallic 1968 Delta 88 Holiday Coupe with a black vinyl roof. It has a 455 with a Q-jet, Turbo 400 trans, factory dual exhaust, posi, Pertronix Flamethrower ignition/coil, Crane 272-degree cam, and 55 amp Delcotron. It has the Group 2 option package (power trunk release, remote control mirror, clock, hood/trunk lights, floor/trunk mats, courtesy and glove box lights). Not to mention AC, power brakes and radial tires. This car has 49K original miles. It won first place in the full size Olds category at the 2005 GM Nationals. I had the entire car repainted, rebuilt the engine, front end and transmission, replaced all the rubber parts and put in a new carpet, among other things. Oh, and did I mention that this car will be up for sale in the next few weeks?
  6. Thanks, everyone...hopefully, it's something simple...we shall see.
  7. My 68 Delta's Rocket 455 has been making an annoying ticking sound for some time now. I had this engine completely rebuilt 2 years ago and the rebuild has about 1000 miles on it. My valvetrain has a double roller timing chain, a Crane PowerMax cam and lifters, stiffer valve springs, and stock rockers/pushrods. Other than that, I have no driveability problems. The tempo and rhythm of the tick increases/decreases with the RPM. I was told that this could be anything from a stuck valve to a loose rocker (most likely) to a bad lifter or cam lobe (least likely). How do I pinpoint what's wrong and fix it? Also, is it at all unusual for parts to shake loose on rebuilt engines? My rebuilder has been touted as one of the best around, but he's mostly experienced with Ford and Chevy motors. Thanks all!
  8. I think I know what that present could be, and if it's what I think it is, it probably rhymes with "glass trucking".
  9. On the nth day of Christmas, Dr. R. E. Olds gave to me: A Collectors' Edition Aurora 2003 2 Toronados 3 Hurst Olds 4 442s 5 F-85s 6 Cutlass Supremes 7 Vista Cruisers 8 Dynamic 88s 9 Regency 98s 10 Starfires 11 J-2s 12 Fiestas
  10. Dear fellow Olds nuts: Now that my 68 Delta 88 is for the most part complete, I now have to think about storage until the next show season. What do I need to do to keep my Olds stored safely until '05? I have a car cover and know about putting Sta-Bil in the gas tank, but are there other tips/tricks/warnings I should know about, other than putting Irish Spring bars in the car to repel varmints? Thanks!
  11. I have possible access to a Buick Regal where the body is in good shape, but the 3.8 V6 is trashed. I was thinking about it, but I would put a 455 Buick/TH400 in it that I may be able to get very cheap. Will a Buick 455 fit a G-body? If so, what do I need to do to make it fit? Thanks.
  12. Will 64-72 A-body (Cutlass, 442) lower control arms fit 65-70 full size (88,98) Olds?
  13. I replaced the heater core on my 68 Delta 88 with AC. You DO NOT have to take out the dash, but you DO have to remove the glovebox in any case. If you have air, you have to take out the HVAC ducts (more details below). Everything Rocketraider said is true, but I have more info. The bolts that hold on the top of the airbox (heater case) are accessed from the firewall on the engine side, but the bottom bolts can be accessed inside the car. While you're in there, make sure that you clean out the airbox and the HVAC ducts. This is important because there may be mold in there from the leaking heater core. I used Simple Green and some bleach on mine. It also cuts down on allergens. If you have a serious leak like I did, the heater core hold-downs may rust. Use a wire brush and then use that "rust transformer" or "metal prep" solution to fix this. What works best to seal the airbox is rope caulk (it's black and sticky, comes in a cardboard box with 1-foot "ropes" separated by wax paper). It's super easy to work with. Finally, before you put on your heater hoses, lube up the heater hose inlets on the heater core with dish soap so that they slide on easily and don't cause you to break them by forcing on a hose.
  14. On my 68 Delta 88 with a Turbo 400 column shift (PRNDSL), what gear should I put my selector and transmission in to adjust the linkage?
  15. If you could go to Orange County Choppers and have Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. build you an Oldsmobile-themed bike, aka the OLDSMOBIKE, what would it look like? What meaningful Olds elements would you include? Would the wheels look like SSII factory mags, for example? Share your ideas for the Oldsmobike here!
  16. I have...actually, the oil bath air cleaner for the early J-2 doesn't look like a batwing at all, but a "flying saucer" where the oil baths are diagonal from each other.
  17. I have a Pertronix FlameThrower ignition and coil on my 68 Delta 88. It's probably the most significant improvement I made. It's easy to install and use, plus no complicated wiring. One thing I just learned is that I had to set my idle higher than stock with my new camshaft (it's a 270 degree) because of the increasd duration. I had a similar problem, but I solved it by upping the idle and leaning out the mix by turning the mixture screws (I have a Q-Jet) leaner, as I was running a bit rich. I too did this by "ear", but lucked out on the first try.
  18. So, what are your opinions on how this sad event will affect the worth of our Oldsmobiles?
  19. When I put my Olds away last year, the A/C was working fine. The only thing I noticed was that the metal fittings on the hoses would frost up. I ran my A/C and it is not as cool, and the frosting is still happening. Do I need a recharge/flush or is something more happening? Thanks.
  20. I need to replace the heater core in my 68 Delta 88 with A/C. It appears that this part is accessed from inside the car. Any tips, tricks, warnings, advice, etc?
  21. Does anyone have hood hinges for a 68 Delta 88 coupe available? Thanks.
  22. I have one of these on my '68 455...bought it at NAPA for $40. If you have AC you have this setup. My shop manual tells me that it advances the timing as the engine heats up to keep things cool.
  23. In my case, I got lucky, as my '68 Delta 455 came with C heads. I had EVERYTHING replaced, but stayed with a stock valvetrain, except for stiffer double springs to match the cam. I had hardened seats put in, which was moot because I had several bad seats anyway.
  24. I have listed a set of 5 ss II Rally wheels on eBay. Go to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2428132115 for more details.
