  1. Liz:

I'll email the pictures this evening. They will give you some idea about shape and condition, but a windshield looks like a windshield, etc.

I made a simple paper template of the outside surface. I can mail it to you; and you can simply lay it over your existing glass to get a better idea if this is in fact the right glass.

If you want the template, just email me your address after you get the pictures later today, and I'll put the template in the mail tomorrow.

The glass is in very nice condition. It was obviously once in a car, and there is a small amount of "fogginess" in places where the rubber weatherstrip covers the glass. However, once it's installed- what you see will be nearly flawless.

We do need to get this decided before I depart for Hershey on Wednesday morning 10/8. Thanks.

  2. Liz:

It appears what I have might be what you need. If you'd like, I can mail you a paper template from the glass that you can lay over your existing glass. You'll have to allow for the part of the glass that is contained within the rubber gasket, but I think that would allow you to confirm that this is the glass you need.

As far as price, the glass would be $150 plus shipping. I would estimate about $50 for shipping. You might want to post a new item on this forum, looking for someone from your part of the world who is coming to Hershey and is willing to bring the glass back.

If you want to proceed with the template, please email me. I'll send the other pictures at that time also.

If you're not interested, the glass will travel along to Hershey and be for sale in my Chocolate field spaces.

  3. Liz: The rear glass is 59 inches wide-as measured from the top, inside corner directly across the inside to the opposite inside top corner. At the center on the outside the glass measures 15 3/4 inches high. The glass is marked "LOF Safety Glass, and then has the code "AS-2-CX". I am not an OLDS expert, so perhaps someone else on the DF can help decifer.

I would say it's about as pristine as a used glass can be.

I will try to add a picture, but if you send me an email I can send several pictures. The glass could be shipped, but I would bet someone in the Club that lives near you would carry it home from Hershey.

    Let me know.

  4. I guess there's a message there for the Region- other AACA members in the same State don't know about their show. Maybe the DF needs a page for AACA events- other than the major shows on the calendar listing. At any rate, it's a nice show put on by nice people. And they give out nice dash plaques:

  5. This is a great little show and flea market. Celebrating their 50th year in 2008. Seems the rain drops are a constant companion, but it is early May, after all. They used to coordinate a tour of the White Post restoration facility, but that seems to have ended a few years ago.

  6. Found an automatic shifter for my '69 Firebird, some nice tools, and (on our way out the gate Friday) a pair of never-mounted G78-15 Firestone Deluxe Champions (dual thin whitewall) that were original equipment on my low-mileage 1970 Ford F-100 Explorer pick-up. Together with the original spare, I now have 3 of the 4 tires it needs to enter an AACA show. The tires were $35 each and still have their rubber nibs and the chaulk (?) printed letters on the tread. The socks and sunglasses have been banished to the farthest reaches of the north field, and the main flea market field is re-seeding with antique/collector car parts. If you need a reason NOT to attend that's fine, the crowd there today was pretty big. WE spent 2 whole days there and never bothered to see the car corral- the flea market was quite enough. Might go back Sunday for breakfast and to let the kids see the car corral. I got the AACA discount on the season pass, and I plan on getting my money's worth!

  7. Well, I spent the whole day at Carlisle (Thursday) and found lots of antique parts. Right now there is a good mix of antique parts, new part vendors, and tools. The management is well into a painfull process of weeding out the socks and such, and bringing in new vendors selling the stuff we all go to see. I went to Charlotte this year, and for the second year out of the last 3 the weather wiped out the flea market. I did see one thing you NEVER see at Carlisle: filthy portable toilets that are seldom cleaned. We'll be back at Carlisle tomorrow- working on some more sun-burn.

  8. It's interesting that Spring Carlisle opens tomorrow with nary a whimper on the AACA DF. Despite the fractured nature of the collector car hobby, (antique, street-rods, rat-rods, etc.) we all enjoy and benefit from these events. Just the display of restoration supplies and equipment makes Carlisle a must see for anyone restoring or maintaining an antique auto. The sheer size of the swap meet insures that a fair amount of original, antique parts will show up. Thanks to Chip & Bill Miller for their support for the hobby for the last 30 years. Take advantage of his generous discount on a Carlisle season pass for AACA members, as I have, and enjoy this event and many more. Take note of the young people in attendance- they should be future AACA members when we're all gone.

  9. I have a group of vintage bumper stickers from the Fall Meet at Hershey and the Carlisle events.

For Hershey the following years are available: '74,'77,'78,'79,80,83,88,97. These were sponsored by Cars and Parts Magazine.

For Carlisle: '77,'78,80,81,88,91,92,93,95. For Carlisle, '77 to 78 are the fall event, '80 and '81 are the spring event, the remainder cover all the events.

The price is $5 each and that includes postage. These are first come, first served. Personal checks are fine.

These are old, and the glue may be "tired", so I don't promise they will stick to your bumper without "new glue". They are, of course, never used.

    Send an email to: gvongunten@comcast.net

    Thanks.
