  1. Here are two great plaques for sale. The first is from the 40th anniversary of the Gettysburg Region, a show held at the historic Carlisle fairgrounds. A great event, if a bit soggy. This year, history will repeat itself and the sun will shine. The second is a never-openened plaque from the Fall Meet in 1989. It's hard to believe that was 24 years ago. I am sure there was mud somewhere that week. Take your pick- each one is $8 plus $2 postage. You can pay with paypal or a personal check. First PM gets 'em. Be sure to specify which one or both. (take both for $18 total)

Thanks, and I'll see you at Carlisle in about 2 weeks!

  2. Thursday at Carlisle. Wow. About 65 degrees and full sun. Got to bring a hat and suntan lotion tomorrow. The flea market field looks more like Hershey than Carlisle. Much more antique parts and much less muscle car. We walked from 10am until 3pm and saw maybe 1/3 of it. Large crowd but the place handles crowds very well. Longest line I saw was at the ice cream stand! 7 hours of sleep and back at it for Friday. Weatherman says same deal only a few degrees warmer. Spoke with some Gettysburg Region members and they are looking forward to the eastern spring meet coming up soon.

  3. We made the trek there today from central MD. Paid $10 in tolls to leave MD; and $8 to get back in. Priceless. Happily, it was a great event; and very well attended. Chilly morning weather about 40 degrees gave way to delightful afternoon temps almost 50 (balmy mid-atlantic Spring day- snow on the way). Must have been over 400 vendors with a great selection of stuff, mostly post-war '50's to '70's. Nice folks, nice day, we'll be back.........maybe a helicopter to bypass the tolls.

  4. Here is a great 47 page booklet published by GM to promote the new 1953 Oldsmobile Rocket V-8's. It is a booklet written by 13 famous college foorball coaches and gives instructions on every aspect of the game. In 1953, college football was much more popular than the upstart pro-football, so these coaches were the real celebrities of the sport. The centerfold is a great advertisement for the Olds. This is in great condition with one exception: the rear cover has had one corner cut off. The first PM gets it for $25 with free postage to the US only. Paypal, personal check, or whatever.

  5. Here is another relic from the Fall Meet. Formed in 1955, the Hershey Region was fortunate enough to obtain its famous CIDER WAGON soon after. It appears on many early awards; and the Cider Wagon itself still greets Hershey Fall Meet visitors each year from its parking space of honor along the pathway that separates the north and south sections of the Chocolate Field. The same line drawing appears on the 1955 and 1956 Hershey meet plaques.

I showed this plate to an old-timer who remembers the Region using it for various awards starting in the late 1950's. It meaures 12 inches in diameter and is silver plate. It develops a great patina if left to tarnish. It has picked up a few light wear marks over the decades; but is nice enough to display anywhere.

You can have this piece of Hershey history for $25 and $10 for shipping. The first PM gets it. I'll accept paypal, money order, or your personal check; but don't wait............or some other relic may own it first!

  6. Here are 17 programs from the AACA Fall Meet in Hershey, Pa. They cover 1983 to 2000- with the exception of 1987. Reading these is almost like being there- without the sore feet the next day!

First PM gets them for $1 each plus USPS Priority mail flat rate of $10.85. So your total cost is $27.85.................oh heck, let's just say $25 even. Paypal, money order, personal check ok. Hurry, first PM gets 'em.

  7. My greatest discovery was finding out that my youngest son has the "Hershey Bug" as bad as his old man. At 14, Alex is a veteran of several Fall Meets already. He will go to school with a terrible cold; but has no qualms about "playing hooky" each year to spend Friday and Saturday with dad in the Green field. When we still camped in the SUV, I would remove the front pasenger seat and he slept in the space vacated by the seat. Later he was happy to bunk with dad in our 6 x 12 enclosed trailer (the Hershey Hilton); and now we have moved all the way up to a motel room in Grantville. As I load the trailer back up on Saturday at noon, I know he'll be off "dumpster diving" and he always comes back with some "treasure" another vendor left behind. Then it's off to see the end of the car show. When it's time to leave, he'll start counting the days until the next Fall Meet. After high school, he'll probably look for a college in central Pa. Priceless.

  8. This is a fascinating geo-political discussion; while it rages on I'll be making the 40 mile trip to York Springs to treat my '68 Camaro to an ethanol-free tank of gas. By the time the first snow flakes fly, I should have all the antique cars, and the various lawn mowers and other outdoor equipment, running on pure gas. I don't mind E10 in the "modern" cars we drive every day- but the antiques don't need to deal with it.
