  1. If you look through the archives, Barney posted this a couple years ago. You can still contact him with info. Of course the price of the system has gone up a lot since then...

I am checking in because I had heard that the TC used the Teves system as do our Reattas.

Two things..... Prior has done lots of rebuilds for Reatta owners. Their price, service, and warranty is super. The cost for the Reatta is $405 including shipping. You cannot touch those prices at GM.

Flushing the system is cheap insurance against failures from damaged seals.

Dot 3 fluid will absorb 1-2% moisture each year, this moisture will corrode aluminum and rust steel. The rust and corrosion particles will float in the fluid and scratch and damage seals and "o" ring. It can also get stuck on the ABS valve seals and cause malfunctions. Flush your brakes.

If your Chrysler dealer doesn't know how, try a VW or Saab repair shop, they also used the Teves system.

If you would like to find more information on testing the Teves system. Go to www.reatta.net and look at the Brake section. This will help you diagnose problems.

If anyone in your club or on this discussion has input, please send it to me at

  2. The top changes happened in the mid 1990 model year. I have 1990's with both types of tops. This change happened around the same time the seat changes occurred from the piped to the non-piped style, although I have seen side handled tops with non-ribbed seats and non-side handled with ribbed seats. The side handled tops can fit on the newer models if the clip pegs are removed. This may impact the safety of the top and I have only done it to transport cars.

  3. You need to join the TC America club and read all the articles about this transmission. Bottom line - buy a MOPAR rebuilt unit from your Chrysler dealer along with an updated controller, and the transmission will last a lifetime. This will cost you about $1,500 and 4 hours of your time (maximum).

  4. There are at *least* 3 different versions of vacuum routing on the 1989 TC. A few years ago I brought one of my cars to a mechanic in California who had it for a few months and did not solve the problem. I finally had to match it to one of my salvage cars. See if another club member in your area has a close VIN number and match them up. Make sure you check for CA and 49 state emission stickers.
