  1. We have over 100 salvage TCs in stock. Email or call us for price, condition and availability. When buying major body parts make sure your seller has the proper certificate of destruction to avoid having your car title "branded" by the DMV (in most states). We have the proper license and certificates to avoid your car being branded as a "chop shop" car which makes the value drop if you decide to sell it in the future.

  2. Karleen just published the complete instructions for repairing the pull-down assembly in the June 2005 TC America newsletter. I wrote that article in 2003 and have done demonstrations at most of the TC America meets since.

Just look at the newsletter, it includes a photo of the component parts.

  3. The leather Karleen bought in hides is gone, but a pile of remnants is at the shop now - waiting for them to be completed. This guy does interiors for Barrett-Jackson cars so he does them when he feels like it. Small change compared to the $60,000 he makes on complete interiors, so he only does them when he is in the mood. I'm sure she will advertise when they are available again, if not I'll post here.

  4. The 1989's used the standard Chrysler single sided ignition key available pretty much everywhere for a dollar or two. The 1990 and 1991's (airbag models) also used a standard Chrysler ignition key, but it is the double sided type. The only "special" ignition keys were the gold plated "crystal keys" that also came with the TC or any other Chrysler product that had the "Crystal Key 7 year/70,000 warranty". The crystal keys can be pricey depending on condition, as many have small flaws or chips in the crystal. The trunk keys are a little more unique as the factory keys did not come with the Chrysler pentastar but instead came with the unique to the TC "pentatrident". They are available on-line or from a number of TC enthusiasts from $10 to $20 depending on condition. There are also generic trunk keys available from locksmiths or on-line for a buck or two. Lebaron trunk keys also fit but may need to be filed to get past the trunk reflector.

  7. I would HIGHLY suggest you subscribe to the TC America Club and purchase the back issues of the newsletters. Karleen has about 1000 members in the club and has since she started it 15 or so years ago. Pretty much all of the information that is on the internet forums has already been published in the newsletters, without all of the misinformation that the internet forums seem to have.

The club is the sponsor of this forum. You can contact her through the website at:

  8. Yes, it is the land of the free but there are laws for the protection of society in general. A private individual can part out a car but there still needs to be a dismantle permit for many valuable or major (but not all) parts of the car. These laws were designed to reduce the proliferation of auto thefts, chop shops and dealers in stolen property. Usually it is the buyer who is the victim and is left with a worthless car and guilty of possession of stolen property.

Of course every state has different laws - states in the rust belt (where most westerners would not buy a part from) may not have as strict of rules as southern border and western states.

  9. First off, in order to properly part a car out you need a dismantle permit. Buying parts from a non-licensed person means the parts are from a "chop shop" and could cause your car to have a salvage title if going through inspection or selling to an out of state buyer.

Second, many people do not have space to store a "carcass".

Third, probably one out of twenty cars have a good right headlight. I bought a "perfect" one for $650 on ebay a month ago from a guy in Florida and received a pitted piece of junk that could not pass an inspection.

Lastly, a body shop or insurance company will not buy from a non-licensed supplier - they only can purchase from a legitimate business. There are a few business that sell TC parts but not many distributers have all the parts that companies need.

There will always be people that do not pay their fair share of taxes and don't pay "use" tax for items they purchase out of state from unlicensed sellers. Of course people that buy from them are just as guilty of supporting the black market as are drug dealers and others who do not operate legitimate business.
