1. Lets see..... the price of a barrel of oil goes up today and the price of a gallon of gas also goes up today, but when the price of a barrel of oil goes down why does it take 4 weeks for the price of a gallon of gas to go down???????? Boy that oil must travel fast to get to the pumps so quick that we can see the price increase the same day.... Please explain to me why this is allowed to happen.... It is a fine line where the government should interfere with business, but it is the tax payers money that makes this country work and I think this is one area that shows we are being screwed by the oil compainies and the government looks the other way....
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 2. OPEC keeps cutting production to raise prices, did we not pull most of their buts out of the fire during the Gulf War??? I know we were supposed to be protecting our interests over there, but I think its time we make them realize that if it was not for NATO they would probably not be selling very much oil... The American tax payers should not be paying to protect them just to get screwed at the pumps......
my $0.02

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 3. Are you looking for an NOS / Show quality or one that is presentable on a driver? This is a very hard part to find without any pitting in the pot metal.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 4. Hey 65sky, It sounds like you need to buy one of those dolls that leans against your bumper (whats the deal with those things anyway?) to attract more attention to your car . Anyone that is interested in those type of gimmicks at car shows should check their opinions at the door.
The number one comment I get at car shows or cruze nights is "I used to own one just like this" "its a "69 Skylark right" :confused I have a '68 GS, at least they know it a Buick). Its strange how I can remember the year and make of every car I used to own, (a camaro, no that was a Yenko Camaro, yea thats the ticket) there must be something wrong with me.
It sucks that Buicks don't get the respect they deserve, but it is still better than having the same car as everyone else.
Does anyone have an "8" ball shifter handle for sale, it would look great on my GS .
Hey martinsr, the last car show I entered I lost the "Best Buick" class to a Chevy powered 30 something Buick. It was a very nice custom hot rod that had one "Buick" emblem on it (does that make it a Buick?)everything else was custom made. I should have expected that to happen because the show was sponsored by a Chevy dealer.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert

[This message has been edited by caGSxlr8 (edited 03-23-2001).]
 5. I just got the latest issue of the Bugle and I see that 3 hotels are sold out and 3 others are listed for the meet in Buffalo. $99 / night is not bad if you have 4 people but you may be able to find a lower rate at one of the other hotels listed below. I do not represent any of the listed hotels, I just live in the area. All of the hotels listed are near exit 49 off of the New York State Thruway and are about 1.5 miles from the National meet. They are all in Lancaster, NY.
Howard Johnsons 716-633-1011
Holiday Inn Express 716-634-7500
Red Roof Inn 716-633-1100
Microtel Inn 716-633-6200
Garden Place Hotel 716-635-9000
*The Garden Place has nice jacuzzi suites
I'm not sure if any of the hotels listed above are any cheaper, but you may want to check. Many of the Major chain Hotels will have an 800 number if you call one in your area. Hope this helps

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 6. I checked my '68 parts book and those numbers are not listed. They must be for a different year other than '68.
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 7. I have joined the BCA and received my first Bugal (January), when can I expect to get my membership card and decal?
I like what I see so far. 8. Where is Kingston NY ?
Is that a 10 bolt and do you know if it would fit a '68 GS?
Thanks
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 9. I put a pertronix with the lobe sensing and a flame thrower coil in my '68 GS400 last spring and I have the same problem, I have the keep cranking to get it to start, even when its warm. After the motor is warm it sometimes acts like the timing is off when it first fires (knocks a little). I am going to recheck the timing (by finding TDC on #1) to verify the timing mark is correct (the motor was previously rebuilt and the mark may have been moved).
The car ran great with the old points. Why did I change them?, because the car is driven very little and I did not want to mess with corroded points when I did get a chance to drive it (I should have left the points in!!).
Anyone else had problems with the new Pertronix Lobe sensor?

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 10. Thanks don55 for not taking my comments the wrong way, I was not tring to be condescending.
Wildcat65, I agree that popularity is a major part of what dictates the price of anything, but do you think that collectors spend the big bucks for ( as an example, '70 hemi cuda' convertable) because its popular? I think most buy these cars as an investment ( they sure dont buy them to drive them) because they know the demand should stay high because they only made 8 of them. If they made 80,000, do you think the price would be where its at today?
Enough on this capitalism talk. Back to Buicks (all years and types!).
Can't wait until the Buffalo 2001 show.
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
[This message has been edited by caGSxlr8 (edited 11-29-2000).]
 11. Sport wagons are very cool, wish I owned one.
Don55, If low production numbers always translated to higher value I think that most Buicks would be worth more than their Chevy counterparts, but unfortunately it does not work that way. It is supply and demand to a point, but popularity plays a major part on the value of any item. A car or anything for that matter is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
By buying my GS I got a lot more car for my money than I would have gotten if I had bought a Chevy. And the same would be true for most Buicks (not just GS's)
If I had a chance to purchase a second Buick it would be a '68 or '69 Sportwagon, not because of the production numbers, but because I like that style of car. Yes, they are getting harder to find.
GS's (or their owners)are not evil, they just happen to be ONE of the more popular Buicks at this time.
My $.02
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 12. FYI for anyone wondering where Cheektowaga, NY is, it is just outside of the city of Buffalo. The actual meet will be held across from the Buffalo International Airport, just in case you need to find it on a map. (I don't know why its called an international airport, it does not have any international flights, not even to Canada!).
I live about 8 miles away if anyone has any questions about the area.
P.S. we just had 23 inches in 24 hours on 11/20/00, boy I can't wait until spring.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 13. Ouch, sure are a bunch of harsh statements about GS's. I did not get a chance to see what "67gs400" posted, but it must not have been good.
Just because someone who may own a GS is rude it does not mean that it is because he owns a GS. I like all Buicks, but I do prefer the Gran Sports and like it or not a GS in any condition will be worth more than the same year base model in the same condition. My GS is one of very few that I see at the local shows and cruse nights, so it is not like everyone elses car, it is different (as most Buicks at shows are).
Don't let this guy divide the Buick ranks (GS / non-GS) just because he owns a GS. Save the put downs for the Chevys and Mopars.
P.S. Nice car Don, a well preserved car of any year / make is nice to see and possibly own. I look forward to seeing it next year in Buffalo.
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 14. A little off of the main topic but as Jody C. stated many of the collector cars are being bought by dealers and being sold for big bucks, but the really sad part is that a large number are being sold and shipped overseas. I visited two such dealers in Florida who said that 70% of their business is done out of the country. After looking at many of the cars they had for sale, I determined that no American in their right mind would pay the prices that they were asking.
Back to the main topic, Love that Blackhawk.
It would be nice if Buick could keep the price down so that most of us might have a chance to buy one.
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 15. Fishman;
When I rotate the switch on my '68 GS convert all of the interior lights come on as if the door was open.
As for the trunk light, it should come on when the trunk is open to a certain angle. The trunk light works on a tilt switch in the trunk light socket that will make contact when the trunk lid reaches a certain angle when it is being opened. First check to see that you have =+12V going to the socket and check to make sure the socket has a good ground, if you have power and ground at the socket the internal switch is bad and the socket must be replaced.
I am not sure how the light in the mirror works.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 16. GS455, you have mail.
Thanks,
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 17. Does anyone know how to tell what year a GM T-3 headlight is? I know it has something to do with the tri-angle pattern but I'm not sure what. If there is a diff. between years, what headlight was used in what year?

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 18. Do you have the two door panels with the "GS" trim pieces?
My e-mail: mrtromm@cs.com
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 19. 68 GS Convertible,
It seems that there are not as many '68 GS owners using this site as I thought as you can tell from the number of replies from my post "'68 GS owners". It is interesting that every reply came from convertible owners. They are the lowest production number GS for '68, but it seems that there are quite a few around still. They are posted for sale on "traderonline" quite frequently. See my post under '68 GS owners for a photo of my GS.
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 20. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the 70 GSX was an option on the GS455, just like the stage 1 was an option. The model number for a '70 GS455 (hardtop) is 44637 and this was the same weather it was a Stage 1 or a GSX. The only way to tell if the car is a true GSX is from the Build sheet, just like the only way to tell a true '70 Stage 1 is to check for "SS" on the engin block and "BB" on the automatic tranny. Be very careful when spending big bucks on a GSX, without documentation it could be a standard GS455.
In '71 & '72 the GSX was an ornamentation package and could have been ordered with a 350 CID. Only 124 GSX's were built in 71 and 44 in 72. It could also be ordered in different colors in '71 & 72.
The bottom line is to make sure you are getting what you are paying for.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 21. I was able to add a photo to my post, see the post titled "'68 GS Owners" for a picture of my GS400.
I used the free web page service offered thru compuserve to create a home page and then added my photo to the home page. The only bad thing about the free home page is that I can only use one photo at a time, but what do you want for free.
Thanks again for your help MARTINSR.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 22. This is a photo of the'68 GS400 that I currently own. I have since replaced the "SCAT TRAC" tires (they were from 1979) with BFG Radial TA's. 23. Thanks MARTINSR,
I was able to find that post in the AACA General Forum. The post is dated 4/18/200 if anyone else would like to learn how to add a photo to your post.
It's not as easy as I had hoped, but I will give it a try this weekend.

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 24. Does anyone know how to attach a .jpg file (a photo) to a post on this bulletin board. Can it be done or do I have to tie it to a web site?

------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
 25. Sorry rpgs400, at this time I do not want to part with either set of derby caps, as you know they are hard to find and usually expensive when you find them. I picked up one set 8 years ago and the second complete set with rims and trim rings (fair condition) two years ago. Keep watching e-bay, I think that a single cap sold for about $45 a couple of months ago, and there is a complete set (rims, rings & caps) up for auction (not mine) right now.
------------------
'68 GS400 Convert
