  1. Thanks, it's the retractor cover I need. The base is good. I haven't come across repop retractor covers yet, will have to keep looking.
  2. DVAP recently moved much of their stock, including all Rivs, from the Deer Valley (Black Canyon) location to Casa Grande. Unfortunately, they do not have any 1st gen Riv balancers. "As of now the pre 656' inventory along with ALL AMC, ALL IHC, ALL CORVAIR, ECONONLINE, ALL TORONADO, ALL RIVIERA's ALL GM "G" BODIES, GM BIG BODY 77 and up, are at our south location, Casa Grande. ...contact them direct toll free 800-798-2465"
  3. My 65 is an AC car but has no shroud. If an OEM shroud can't be found, is it available aftermarket?
  4. If I understand right, the balancer readi-sleeve is only for the seal surface.
  5. Thanks Jim. Necessity is the mother of invention. If we don't have the right tool, we make it or find a way to make something in the tool box work.
  6. Thanks for asking Tom. The crank snout looks okay - OD is 1.426" Damper ID is 1.440 And thanks for the tip on column sleeve removal. Patience is my forte. Roger
  7. Yes! It's excellent - a *bit* better than mine. I also need a harmonic damper for the 401, as mine is cracked. I can't message yet since my "account has not yet met the minimum content item count requirement", but if you'll message me with price and contact info, I'd appreciate that. Thanks Gene. -Roger
  8. My 65 has the original retractors, but I need the driver side cover (black). ...if someone has one that isn't broken?
  9. I'm 69 and I recently bought a '65 Riv. My first Buick was a 1972 Electra 225. It was a great, smooth land yacht that my kids loved to ride in. That was over 40 years ago.
  10. My turn signals work, but the chrome sleeve is severely beat up - looks like some one beat on the edge of it with a hammer or, more likely, used a screwdriver against it to try prying off the steering wheel. Doh! I haven't seen a chrome sleeve for sale anywhere. Any suggestions?
  11. Thanks! I was thinking of having a machine shop rebuild it. I've worked on a lot of cars, many years ago, and just recently started getting back into it. This is my first Riviera - love that style! She's not in good shape, but I'm bringing her back from the brink. Would you know where I might find a used balancer for the 401? Thanks again!
  12. I replaced belts on my 65 project and noticed the crank balancer was loose. The nut was only at about 60 ft-lbs, so tightened it down to 100 and it still flopped around. I know, 200+ is correct torque, but I decided to pull it and take a look. The ID is at 1.440 and crank OD is 1.426, but the big news is, the balancer is cracked. Since I'd like to stay with the original unit, is there a way to fix this, or is it junk? And is 1.426 in spec for the crankshaft OD?
  13. Excellent find!! I'm jealous. I just bought my first Riviera ('65) and it IS a project that's going to take a lot of effort to bring her back from the brink. But it's going to be fun.
