  2. Hello fellow Buick folks, will the backing plates and thus the drums etc from a mid 50’s rear fit my ‘39 Special, the housing of the mid 50’s is stamped 788G, drums look to be 14”, thanks for any input

  7. Thanks for your quick responses! 39_Buick, are both sides the same? I only have the (1) strut that turns down with the spring see O and Q on exploded view.. the other piece is flat and was in a box of parts that was in the trunk when I got the car… thanks
  8. Happy Easter! First off, the rear cable was missing, ordered one from bob’s, pulled the drums and can’t figure if something is missing and how to hook up.. if anyone has an exploded view of how the parking brake parts fit would be greatly appreciated, heres pics of what I have…btw, I have several shop manuals that are not helpful..and I checked out Glen’s ‘38 restoration and couldn’t gleen what I need to see even though he’s posted great pics….ps the wheel cylinder with red spot is drivers side
  9. Can anyone give me info on the frame tag on my car, it’s on frame down by starter, what do the numbers mean? still has some paint on it, used nylon brush, don’t want to go too far and erase anything, it looks aluminum, maybe paint remover?
  10. I’m trying to figure the best way to remove the hood center trim piece for replacement, it started to come up as seen in this picture, but do I pull it up the length or slide it backwards, hood is off car, any advice is highly appreciated!
  11. Hi Jim, you mention cooling upgrades on your ‘35 248, from what I can make out in the picture, is there a bigger fan and radiator shroud? I’m here in Phoenix Arizona with my ‘39 Special and would consider this type of upgrade, thanks
  12. Thanks Ben!! You’re a wealth of info, much appreciated.. I bought a ‘39 Century back in ‘83 or ‘84 ( not sure of year, kinda foggy) , all I did was put gas-n-go! That car never needed a thing and was a freeway flyer! So all this mechanics on my Special is really new to me, thanks again!
  13. Ben, wishful thinking says 263 to me, however I feel your going to burst it and tell me it’s a 248, still love the car.. here’s pics and thanks for info, I appreciate it!
  14. Thanks Mike, btw.. turns out my 39 Special has a later 263 engine!! That’s what I love about old cars, it’s like a box of chocolates… so the engine# 53428705 if anyone can help narrow it down, thermostat bypass# 1335319 here’s a pic of the waterpump..
  15. Pete’s got a housing part# 1297938, can anyone confirm this will fit my 39 Special, I can’t get my old one off yet to compare..that’s the thermostat bypass housing
  16. Here’s a pic of why I can’t trust the flange, previous owner tapped the hole and did the best he could, but…. Jolly J, thanks for that info, your right about the water bypass housing needed, and I’m a pretty voracious reader, so I’ve gotten the 38 manual and waiting for the 39 supplement, I think I’ve read every forum trying to get myself educated, much appreciation on the help.
  17. Here’s a pic of why I can’t trust the flange, previous owner tapped the hole and did the best he could, but…
  18. Absolutely Pete, how do I contact you off this forum?
  19. Just got the car, seen the radiator was dry, added coolant while not running and it started leaking out from somewhere, assumed water pump? Started removal and figured I’d take out the thermostat since probably not needed for Phoenix, saw flange already broke and rtx all in it, and rtx extruding from water pump…water pump mounting bolts frozen with rust to boot, too much fun..btw, new to posting..still figuring it out, thanks for any tips..
  20. Commercial truck mud flaps, very durable.
