  1. I am preparing to check and refill the lever shocks on my 55 special tomorrow, so all of this information is golden for me. Thanks!
  2. Now, I am trying to locate shocks for the front and some advice on how to service the oil lift system for the rear. Thanks!
  3. Sorry about the absence from this post. I had a few life events to take place after my last post. Thanks so much for all of your assistance with this and other things pertaining to the 55 Special. I did not drop the oil pan. I actually conducted what is called a "hot oil" change, and I did it a couple of times within 2 months of each other. Those actions, along with using a heavier grade oil eliminated my lifter noise. I have no idea which action was most effective! The lifters now only tap a few seconds after the engine starts now, and I view that as a success! I learned about hot oil changes during my years of construction. One of the master mechanics insisted that all oil changes on heavy equipment be conducted with the machine as hot as possible when the oil is dropped. His theory is that much of the sledge and buildups are more prone to be released if everything is hot. I know that I might eventually have to drop the pan for cleaning, but for now, it runs great. Thanks again.
  4. Thanks for the continued research. I hoped to have the 55 Buick Special back by now to confirm numbers under the hood. Yet, the clips that my mechanic sent to me is different than the pictures I have seen so far. Thanks again.
  5. Thanks all. I don’t have the car at home right now, as someone is repairing rust areas on it out of town. He dropped off the clips that he needs replaced. I was able to purchase the side clips for the larger chrome on EBay.
  6. Thanks so much. Maybe the roadmaster and 55 Special has different types of clips. These are the ones that was removed from the Special. However, I will use whatever works, even if it is different than what came off of the car.
  7. These are two photos of the clips that I need for my 1955 Buick Special, two door. I think it is called the window reveal. Thanks for everything.
  8. Hi; I am searching for the little clips that hold the chrome trim in place under the rear glass of a 1955 Buick Special. It might be called beltline molding. I have tried several companies but nothing yet. I am attaching a couple of photos. Hopefully someone can assist me here. I read another post where someone used the metal door clips and fabricated them a bit but they worked. Does anyone know what door clips they are referring to?
  9. Just wanted to let you all know that the horn assembly is installed properly. Now I can blast away! 😂. Thanks KAD36 for the great written instructions because the manual was not very clear on the reinstall. 👍🏾
  10. Thanks for the stitch and hem instructions.
  11. That is interesting! Thanks so much for expanding on this. Now I know how to proceed.
  12. Thanks! I had considered a couple of those options. I was also hoping that someone was making the rope like some of the other items I have found, such as rocker panels and such. A work in progress!
  13. Me again! I am still trying to keep this old Buick original by either repairing or replacing badly worn out items. I am hoping that someone could give me a lead on how to purchase the rope on the rear of the front seats. Also, if anyone has any information on how the rope is secured inside the housings! I searched online and all I could locate was the actual chrome housings, which I do not need. I think the chrome will clean up to an acceptable outcome. I included one photo of the seat back, and another photo of the 55 that was taken with our Cherry Blossom blooms in my driveway on Saturday. I also want to thank all of the people that has been assisting me with working on the old Buick. I wish to be able to return the assistance but I don't have enough experience with the old car yet to be able to offer assistance.
  14. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I actually found a replacement that seems to be in good condition for less than 30 bucks. My theory is that the plastic sort of helped lengthen the life of the metal, and the plastic was not placed back on the ring after maintenance, or this actual horn ring is a replacement that was sold without the plastic. I think that over time, the metal against metal wore it out.
  15. Well, I received the parts for the horn assembly but ran into another unseen issue. Even with the adjustment all of the way down, the horn button will not stay on the wheel. Upon close inspection I noticed that there is a metal lip at the bottom of the horn button that extends outside of the casing. The photo of my existing horn button displays that the metal lip has worn away. I suspect that this is the reason that the button will not stay on the wheel. It actually does stay on the wheel but the slightest movement brings it off. In my opinion, that metal lip is what actually keep the button on the wheel. The second photo displays a horn button that I saw on Ebay. This button has a piece of plastic that goes around the protruded lip. Does anyone have any ideas how I could proceed without purchasing an entire horn button? I am thinking I might be able to fabricate a piece of hard plastic to serve as a washer. Yet, since the lip has worn down so much, the plastic might not be enough. Ideas are appreciated!
  16. Indeed it does help. Thanks again. I will print your instructions out and save for reference during the installation.
  17. This is what I purchased on ebay, Photos attached. This is the ebay listing where they state that one more is available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155148302766
  18. Lucky break! I found the entire set of necessary items to mount the horn button to the wheel on Ebay for less than 20 dollars. Thanks!
  19. One more question related to the shaft nut. Does removing that nut affect anything else? I mean, is it tightened in any particular manner that effects steering?
  20. Guest Pete Gipprich: I know its sort of late, but do anyone have a source for acauiring missing parts of the horn button assembly. It appears that I am missing a couple of spacers and an insulator.
