  1. Thanks for the continued research. I hoped to have the 55 Buick Special back by now to confirm numbers under the hood. Yet, the clips that my mechanic sent to me is different than the pictures I have seen so far. Thanks again.
  2. Thanks all. I don’t have the car at home right now, as someone is repairing rust areas on it out of town. He dropped off the clips that he needs replaced. I was able to purchase the side clips for the larger chrome on EBay.
  3. Thanks so much. Maybe the roadmaster and 55 Special has different types of clips. These are the ones that was removed from the Special. However, I will use whatever works, even if it is different than what came off of the car.
  4. These are two photos of the clips that I need for my 1955 Buick Special, two door. I think it is called the window reveal. Thanks for everything.
  5. Hi; I am searching for the little clips that hold the chrome trim in place under the rear glass of a 1955 Buick Special. It might be called beltline molding. I have tried several companies but nothing yet. I am attaching a couple of photos. Hopefully someone can assist me here. I read another post where someone used the metal door clips and fabricated them a bit but they worked. Does anyone know what door clips they are referring to?
  6. Just wanted to let you all know that the horn assembly is installed properly. Now I can blast away! 😂. Thanks KAD36 for the great written instructions because the manual was not very clear on the reinstall. 👍🏾
  7. Thanks for the stitch and hem instructions.
  8. That is interesting! Thanks so much for expanding on this. Now I know how to proceed.
  9. Thanks! I had considered a couple of those options. I was also hoping that someone was making the rope like some of the other items I have found, such as rocker panels and such. A work in progress!
  10. Me again! I am still trying to keep this old Buick original by either repairing or replacing badly worn out items. I am hoping that someone could give me a lead on how to purchase the rope on the rear of the front seats. Also, if anyone has any information on how the rope is secured inside the housings! I searched online and all I could locate was the actual chrome housings, which I do not need. I think the chrome will clean up to an acceptable outcome. I included one photo of the seat back, and another photo of the 55 that was taken with our Cherry Blossom blooms in my driveway on Saturday. I also want to thank all of the people that has been assisting me with working on the old Buick. I wish to be able to return the assistance but I don't have enough experience with the old car yet to be able to offer assistance.
  11. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I actually found a replacement that seems to be in good condition for less than 30 bucks. My theory is that the plastic sort of helped lengthen the life of the metal, and the plastic was not placed back on the ring after maintenance, or this actual horn ring is a replacement that was sold without the plastic. I think that over time, the metal against metal wore it out.
  12. Well, I received the parts for the horn assembly but ran into another unseen issue. Even with the adjustment all of the way down, the horn button will not stay on the wheel. Upon close inspection I noticed that there is a metal lip at the bottom of the horn button that extends outside of the casing. The photo of my existing horn button displays that the metal lip has worn away. I suspect that this is the reason that the button will not stay on the wheel. It actually does stay on the wheel but the slightest movement brings it off. In my opinion, that metal lip is what actually keep the button on the wheel. The second photo displays a horn button that I saw on Ebay. This button has a piece of plastic that goes around the protruded lip. Does anyone have any ideas how I could proceed without purchasing an entire horn button? I am thinking I might be able to fabricate a piece of hard plastic to serve as a washer. Yet, since the lip has worn down so much, the plastic might not be enough. Ideas are appreciated!
  13. Indeed it does help. Thanks again. I will print your instructions out and save for reference during the installation.
  14. This is what I purchased on ebay, Photos attached. This is the ebay listing where they state that one more is available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155148302766
  15. Lucky break! I found the entire set of necessary items to mount the horn button to the wheel on Ebay for less than 20 dollars. Thanks!
  16. One more question related to the shaft nut. Does removing that nut affect anything else? I mean, is it tightened in any particular manner that effects steering?
  17. Guest Pete Gipprich: I know its sort of late, but do anyone have a source for acauiring missing parts of the horn button assembly. It appears that I am missing a couple of spacers and an insulator.
  18. I do see the RTV now that you mention it. Good eye! This also might account for why it seemed to be working okay for a short time after I started driving it. Are you referring to the wheel nut as pictured in the first photo? Do you think I will need to take that nut off and place the "missing" spacer to make things work properly?
  19. Thanks again for researching this and sending the post. I will try to figure it out from here. I think I am missing a couple of parts.
  20. Thanks so much! I have no idea if it was mounted wrong before. I drove it a few days before it came off and because I like the Buick horn sound, I blew it a lot! I did pry off the center cap to try to see what else can be done but that is far as I went. Looking forward to any additional knowledge on this and drawings. The manual really did not get into this on my level of understanding!
