  1. I do see the RTV now that you mention it. Good eye! This also might account for why it seemed to be working okay for a short time after I started driving it. Are you referring to the wheel nut as pictured in the first photo? Do you think I will need to take that nut off and place the "missing" spacer to make things work properly?
  2. Thanks again for researching this and sending the post. I will try to figure it out from here. I think I am missing a couple of parts.
  3. Thanks so much! I have no idea if it was mounted wrong before. I drove it a few days before it came off and because I like the Buick horn sound, I blew it a lot! I did pry off the center cap to try to see what else can be done but that is far as I went. Looking forward to any additional knowledge on this and drawings. The manual really did not get into this on my level of understanding!
  4. Greetings and thanks for past assistance and hopefully someone can assist me with my current issue. I do have the shop manual now, but I still cannot figure out how to get the horn button to stay on the steering wheel. It was on the wheel just fine and the horn worked as it was supposed to, until one day, it just popped off. I think I retrieved all of the items that came off with it, and attached photos of them. Whatever manner it is placed on the wheel with the spring and other items, it will not remain clipped onto the steering wheel and the horn blows even when I do not push it. I suspect that it has something to do with the little clips that is on each steering wheel spine. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  6. M1842 Suggested: "I would check the carburetor dashpot to see if it is adjusted correctly". I have a 55 Special and would like to know what a dashpot is. Could someone explain, or post a photo of it. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for taking the time to post this. Very informing!
  8. Thanks in advance for any assistance. I read all of the comments as I am primarily looking for a suitable electric pump for my 55 Special. I had the exact same issues as the OP. When I first purchased the car, it appeared to not be getting fuel at times. I placed an electric pump placed near the tank, but the issue prevailed until I realized the filter behind the carburetor was also getting clogged. After cleaning, it ran fine for about 15-20 miles, and then it started to sputter out and shut off. So, yesterday, after blowing all the lines out and placing a new style filter behind the carb, I installed a new fuel tank and sending unit on the car (from Tanks). After placing about 8 gals of gas, when I tried to start the car, although it made the normal pumping sounds, the electric pump failed to prime. So there was no fuel coming to the carb. Now the pump does not even make a noise. It was very cheap (about 25 bucks)so no big deal. I logged in to ask if someone could recommend a decent self priming replacement pump for this car, hopefully less than 100 bucks
  9. Thanks to all of you for posting all of your comments. I needed this filter and found it through your sharing of knowledge.
  10. Thank you for the information. I plan to do it this weekend.
  11. This is a photo of the car. I took it about two weeks ago before I stopped driving it due to the noise
  12. Also, DonMicheletti: I think it is very keen of you to actually suggest that the noise that I am hearing could be from oil starvation. Knowledge is very much golden!
  13. Keiser31; I did locate a youtube video on a 1959 Buick. Thanks
  14. Thanks; I will try that. Also, I found this on youtube about removing the pan for a 1959 Buick Riverera. I think that most of this might apply to my pan removal with the exception of the crossover, in which is on mine.
  15. It has the factory gauge. The entire car is still original. I have not drove it since I started hearing the noise, but when I was driving it, I think it did drop slightly with acceleration. Currently, when I start it up it is in the high position-all the way.
  16. Thanks! I did view a video on things to do after removing the pan for cleaning and oil pump service was one of them. I will conduct some research on getting the pan off the car. Your response is much appreciated!
  17. I did search youtube, but could not find the answer to my questions.
  18. First of all, I am not a mechanic. I recently acquired a 1955 Buick Special 2 door that had been sitting for about 17 years and it is appears to be in decent condition. After driving it around my community a little while, I suddenly started hearing what appeared to be ramped up lifter noise. Note: I had previously changed the oil and filter. After some research, one source told me that if I removed the valve covers I might possibly find that there is possible a bunch of gunk around the area of the lifters, and that this might be blocking the proper amount of oil that is needed for the engine. Yet, they also said that if I attempted to clean up this stuff, that I should also plan on dropping the oil pan and cleaning after cleaning the lifter area, but before running the engine. When I researched "removing the oil pan" I read that several other components also had to be removed to do this. I have removed oil pans before but the process only required me to just simply remove the oil pan. My immediate question is: is it possible to remove and clean the oil pan without removing a bunch of other things, as I am afraid that I some of the things mentioned that needs removing is above my knowledge base? Also, I would really appreciate any advice to the original issue of the possible causes of sudden lifter noise.
