    LHD, so either Canadian, or Australian delivered. Motor was late '30s(?) and a pain to recondition. Original fibre timing gear was suspect, so got a "new old stock" one, but that separated from its hub. In the end, had to use non-original Alloy gear 😞

Sorry to refresh an old thread, but my factory neighbour does this all the time (regrinding odd pistons), but only if the customer really can't afford someone to make a new set, and ONLY if they are a close match (age/batch) to the other ones. He has a Repco piston refinisher (more like a cylindrical grinder with extra tilting bed attachment), and we are also trying to restore his Hercus refinisher, which should be a lot more solid and accurate

  4. Um, what???? Are you saying you think rich mixture doesn't cool? Are you sure about that? Liquid in the charge cools the air. Lean mixture can burn through the top of racing motor pistons. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air–fuel_ratio_meter : "Lean mixtures burn hotter and may cause rough idle, hard starting and stalling, and can even damage the catalytic converter, or burn valves in the engine. The risk of spark knock/engine knocking (detonation) is also increased when the engine is under load." P.S. Myths. On a gravel road, holding your finger or knuckle up to the windscreen when another car goes past you. Meant to prevent the windscreen shattering!
  5. Thanks for all the images, folks. It is nice to see such a collection of British cars in the United States, mostly in left hand drive! Note that the "Austin Ruby," shown by Mike in the first 4 posts, is actually an Austin Seven. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_7 Ruby is the variant - a late model saloon.
