    My first 'collector' car was a '57 190sl. Like mentioned above I like most 'old' cars and I cant think off hand of one in particular that I have 'lusted' over. There are some very nice cars but none that I am overly nuts about. Realistically I would love to have a 1983 Trans Am Daytona Pace Car. Unrealistically many dream cars could fill the garage mostly 16 cylinder models 😁 I have never been a corvette guy but as of late I have been considering liquidating and getting a c8 . Probably the only car that I can look at with a bit of enthusiasm.

    Mom had one identical to the one in this ad. I always thought they were great looking cars, but never drove one. She liked big cars and this one was too small so pop traded it on an Olds 98.

    The only thing 'mint' about the one in the ad is the colour. It looks decent enough but far from what I would call perfect! (mint=perfect imo)

  3. I typically dont like to answer one time posters, but just in case he is REAL, I would only use por product if you are not concerned about longevity. I think its the easy way out. I may be mistaken but I am under the impression it is supposed to be applied directly to the rust for best results. My idea of fixing/restoring a car is to get rid of the rust. It may not be fun and it may be time consuming but to do it correctly the rust needs to be removed, I like to sand it off, evaporust works great and I have even used a rustoleum version of evaporust that is a gel. I used 'chassis saver' which is comparable to por 15 on a piece of rusty heavy equipment. It looked fine for a couple of years then the rust started to burn through again. 

  4. I give him a hard time about Miatas (sorry to those miata owners present😬). I had a friend in hs that inherited his mothers 240Z. I have always liked those cars. I would really like to have a 260 or an early 280. Never much cared for toyotas but I would even consider an early supra at this point.

     

    (Rockford drove an esprit but it had the heart of a formula, LOL. The premise was that a paycheck to paycheck PI would not have the fanciest car on the road. Hence a base model Firebird)

  5. To MK and Emtee I would say, put them in a class and get them judged. I looked at a car that the owner had recently purchased. It was really nice but had a lot of things wrong in the engine compartment. Hoses, clamps etc. One of the judges was very knowledgeable with the make and offered a lot of advice to the owner. The owner was very happy and gave him inspiration to make it better if he so desired.

  6. My brother races a 1930's era motorcycle in the VRRA (Canada historic racing club). He has been doing so successfully for quite a few years now. A couple of years back he had a serious accident in which an 80 yr old guy hit him in the rear doing about 70mph. The guy that hit him was at fault and after the accident they found he had been banned by all tracks except the one where this happened due to reckless driving! At some point one must learn their limitations.

  7. My son is 30, and has become a car guy since he has bought one of his own last year. The cars in the pics above are exactly the kind of ones he talks about. He loves the jdm stuff and for some reason has a liking to miatas? We were at a cars n coffee last week and he immediately took me over to show me a nissan GTR that was there. I had never seen one in person, only heard him talking about them on occasion. I have to admit, it was a pretty badd*&^*^& car!

  8. I like the plywood screwed on top as a means to secure the trailer contents. My truck came with a hard tonneau cover and my first thought was to take it off and sell. I have never had one and did not want to start. I have grown to love it, no worries about stuff flying out driving down the road. There has not been one time that I wish I had taken it off to date.

  9. I think thats how I would be. I cant imagine having a lift and NOT using it!  I have a buddy that has one and has offered its use whenever I need it. But his garage is a show place and not a working garage, I cant imagine spilling a bit of oil on his floor. I came close a couple of times to getting one but those efforts failed. My neighbor across the street had one similar to yours. He passed away suddenly. After about a year I approached his wife if she would sell it. She told me her car mechanic had given her a downpayment and was going to get it. Another year went by I asked her again, telling her I had cash on hand and would remove it promptly. Again same response. After about 4 years she sold her house. Again as I was helping her clean up some things in the garage I asked about the lift that was still in place. Same response, her mechanic was going to come and get it. House sold, and the new owner has a nice lift in their garage!

  10. Not familiar with Marmoleum. But I have done more than my share of linoleum installations. Hope to never have to do that again!  Not really that bad though I suppose compared to a lot of things. 'Battleship' linoleum as it comes to my mind is a very heavy rubbery, vinyl type flooring with a burlap like core, it may have linseed oil associated with it somehow? I think (well before my time) that it was used on Battleships as a durable floor covering? Hence the name. No way it compares to modern linoleum other than the name. I have a customer with an 18th century house that has an entire bedroom wing  with the stuff as a floor covering. He wanted to replace it but I talked them out of it just because. Its ugly brown but more durable than a lot of things. 

  11. I keep seeing this thread coming back up and kept thinking to myself, I hope the next time I see this thread pop up CChinn has announced he bought this car! Congrats, glad things worked out for you. As for the whitewalls, this is def. a car that should be sporting them. Now we need to see some pics in the great day for a ride thread!

The seller can tell us all he want's, if he can not prove and document the car, it simply does not exist as advertised!

    I can understand it getting out of the hands of Ford, lots of concept and show cars were released one way or the other, I think some were sent to the scarp yard. I dont think they were viewed as something extra special and 'museum' worthy when they were built just another concept of what ifs. Although they may be interested in something like that now. Maybe the asking price is too high for them or it just isnt what it is purported to be. Lots of cars have created history thats gets blended in and the truth gets lost over time and multiple owners.

  13. I doubt any floor covering shop will even know what battleship linoleum is! They may not even know what plane ole linoleum is?

    I wasnt aware this stuff needed to be waxed but I would think any kind of a carnuba would work if you are currently using Johnson. I had no idea they stopped making that. I have a couple of cans guess I need to hold it tight.

  14. I think the idea of an experimental car is cool, but my first thought when seeing this was authenticity. If Ford was wanting a 3 window coupe would they wait until nearing the end of the model run to 'experiment'? In comparing the differences between a '32 3 and 5 window car it looks like the door itself is wider on a 3 window?  I may be wrong and it may just be my perception. But this looks like someone welded in a panel over the back side window. It does not have the same flow as a later model 3 window car imo.  Then again may just be a bad picture angle?

  15. Very nicely styled car. Most will say its a parts car at best. I dont know the production number of these but I am sure its much lower than a 57 chevy. Saying its a parts car is also saying there are others out there that are restoring one of these. I doubt that is a hot market right now. Like mentioned sitting in the ground I would hate to think what the bottom of this one looks like. I think a 2500. price would get it moving to the right person.

  16. I do not speed excessively. By that I mean that I will drive 50 in a 45, 70 on a 65 interstate etc. But driving like a maniac on backroads is just not my thing. Speed cameras in MD are not owned by the state. They are owned by private contractors with the state only getting a percentage of the revenue. That to me is the bad part. My small town had them at one time and part of the contract was that the company even bought a new police cruiser for the chief. Sorry, but I think there are some wrong things going with acts like that. Good or bad I dont know. I think the reason is probably a good thing the reality is about graft and corruption!
