  1. I've had a recurring dream where I'm riding with my dad in a red 1957 Chevrolet on the Adirondack Northway from the area where the pine tree aroma is everywhere to the turn where Prospect Mountain is no longer directly in front of you.

I've had it several times over a period of more than 20 years.

Weird thing is that I almost never rode with my dad, never in that area...mom always drove in all Lake George trips, and we've never been able to afford a cool old car.

I would guess it represents everything I've lost but the first time I had it, he was still alive. I want to say the first time I had it was around 1998 or 99, and cancer took him in 2002. I've had it three or four times since. I also lost my favorite place in the world in Lake George, and when I lost my dad I lost any real chance of having an old car.

  2. I don't mind cars with actual wear and tear. Fake "patina", aka rust, is stupid though. Why? There is a Studebaker pickup that I see at a show every year with a perfectly fine body that has rust painted on it.

I have seen modern imports with a full wrap rust. At least being a wrap it's removable.

Maybe it's because I grew up poor with cars that barely ran and were rusting apart before my eyes, but I prefer the cars that look nice.

  3. Yesterday, I took my third trip to MotorcylePedia in Newburgh, NY. I'm not really a motorcycle person, but I love that museum...it's great. They have everything labeled very well, except a couple of microcars they have in there.

Does anyone know what they are?

Sorry this one came out blurry.

This little orange car is currently not on display but you can see it through the fence around their storage unit.

    Thanks in advance!

They also have a Henderson Cyclecar...

  4. For me, 2019 was fantastic. Easily my best year ever when it comes to cars. I attended more shows and cruise-ins than ever before, 3 different museums including two more than once, and I knocked two of the three things on my bucket list off- a ride in an antique car, which was a 1913 Model T at the Saratoga Automobile Museum Show in May, and a ride on Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois in October. I saw an Amphicar in the water for the first time, when one came up the Hudson River during the Classics on the Hudson show at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. I was able to remove one car from the list of "cars I most want to see" when I saw a Kaiser Darrin in October.

In all, I took 12,002 automotive photographs this year, which is more than I've taken in all but two entire years of my life. (All are on my website, in signature).

I got a chance to ride in the aforementioned Model T, but I also got to ride in a 1945 Willys Jeep at the Military Encampment (reenactment) at FDR's home, and I got to ride in a friend's 1972 El Camino, my first time in an El Camino, which has been my obsession for more than 20 years now.  I got to sit in a Mustang, a Corvette, a 1955 Chevrolet, and on a motorcycle for the first time this year as well.

I also created a chart of the automotive brands I've photographed. I added a lot this year, largely due to the fact that I went to more shows, and also decided to photograph everything that's out there- not just my favorites. I am working on going through my entire photo archive and sorting them by brand, rather than by what show or event they were taken at, so there is a possibility I've missed some. The closer scrutiny I've given them for that project has yielded some brands that I photographed and didn't realize it, and also some that I knew I had seen and forgot to list. Since my health doesn't allow me to drive, photographing as many as possible is how I'm expressing my love of the automobile.

I don't know if I can ever top this year..but I'm going to try! I missed a few shows this year because my health didn't cooperate...hopefully that isn't the case in 2020. I know it probably will be, but my doctor has said I need to exercise more, and what better exercise is there then walking around car shows? 😁

Edit to add: I also finished 13 car models this year. It's less than last year, but much better than 2017, when I completed a grand total of zero. I also won two awards with them, the most I've ever won in a year.

  5. Yes, neither was Cartercar, but I was replying to 8E45 who asked me specifically if I had seen one. (I have seen a Cartercar, but I have not gotten far enough back in my image sorting project to pinpoint where and when just yet)

I checked my list, and I have NOT seen a Marquette either. And I was way off on the numbers, I thought I was over 250 but I'm only at 211. Of course, 211 is still a fantastic number.

  6. I don't consider Cartercar a companion brand, rather it was one that just didn't survive. I've seen several Oaklands. The Marquette is why I couldn't just say out right that Viking was the only one. I can't remember for sure, and my Excel chart where I track what I've seen is not available to me on my tablet.

I've seen and photographed more than 250 brands, actually planning to post about that in the next day or two.

  7. Thanks for the id. I'm not too knowlegable about 30s cars...I knew it was not a Ford but not what it actually was.

Think the hot dogs cost about $2. The mayor is trying to outlaw them for some reason. I did get some back in January and they were pretty good actually. Better than I expected. The food carts smelled great to me this trip but my medicine dictates when I eat, and there was no eating on this trip.

  8. The Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs NY is a great Museum, although not the largest. There are several rarities on permanent display upstairs, the downstairs exhibits change two times a year. It's probably off your itinerary by a wide margin however, being circa six hours east of Buffalo. It's my home museum despite the fact that it's two+ hours away.

  9. I am pleased to see this is a request for common courtesy rather than a reaction to a fight.

I have been on internet message boards since the year 2000, based on my observation and experience, the people who join a forum specifically to ask a question are never heard from again about 99% of the time, with a few random people deciding to stick around and become part of the community.

The people who join because they have a passion for the topic are the ones who become the "regulars", and it's predicated on each person's personality whether they post repeatedly or are the kind who when they speak, you stop and listen. I am the former rather than the latter.

No rules put in place really matter. They will be ignored, aside from those who don't even bother to read them, there's many people who think that they don't apply to them.

  10. This past Sunday my brother and I ventured into NYC, to see the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas tree and the New Year's Ball, which is uncovered and lit. Well, it was a mistake. It was way too crowded and I'll never do that again...but I was surprised by this...

You can actually see the New Year's Ball in the last photo. Times Square is about the last place I expected to see an old car! I think it may actually have been a private taxi, but I'm not 100% sure.

    But that wasn't all...

It was titled as a 1957, the grill looks a little older to me, but I have almost no knowledge of the larger trucks.

There were also a couple of these Citroens in Rockefeller Plaza.

It doesn't look like it's street legal anymore, in that it's not licensed. There's another on the other side of the skating rink, but it was too crowded for me to get over to it and see it.

I took over 600 photos, which I have on my website here If anybody wants to look: https://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/trips/christmas-in-manhattan/

  11. I think I have 17 of the 19 titles in my magazine collection. Sad day. The only one I am sure I do not have a single issue of is the Corvette publication. Super Street doesn't sound familiar to me but I have been known to buy random issues if the cover article looked good. Someday I hope to get my magazine collection sorted, it's a horrible mess right now.

Lowrider has a cultural importance beyond just the cars, although not being Hispanic I don't fully grasp it; I know the importance exists though.
