  1. Update: Sorry it took so long to finish this. After going thru Ignition Timing, Spark Plugs, checking for Vacuum Leaks, Fuel Delivery! Finally the car would start with the carburetor choke on. Which before the rebuild would start with out the choke on. After this, the engine developed a really bad hesitation flat on its face, stall out from a dead stop. Accelerator pump was giving a shot of fuel, as you opened the throttle just not enough. Changed accelerator pump and spring (A slight shorter spring) Up and running again jeeze-o-pete! So, I rewarded her new shoes 3" White Walls!
  2. Thanks for all the replies. Should have an update in a couple of days...
  3. Engine cranks, but will not fire. Would the starter switch play a role in this happening? I have fuel squirting into carburetor, I have spark on all plug wires, I have spark from the coil wire.
  4. Good job Clarence! And the voice participating on the part "Ride, Sally Ride"!! 👍
  5. Hopefully, Lamar will have this event again next year. Thanks for all the pics!! Wish I could have made the trip.
  6. Mr Earl, I really wanted to go to this one day event, to see The Buick Gardens, I just couldn't get the Buick ready in time for the 700 mile journey. Stupid carburetor, plus needs new tires. This would have been a blast!! It would have been a real pleasure meeting you, Rita and Elvis and all the other Buick Friends! Wishing everyone safe travels! No skinny dipping in the Buick Pond! 🤣 Richie
  7. UPDATE! 1- Fuel pressure 4lbs. 2- Checked floats for pinholes in hot water. OK. 3- Checked floats parallel to bowl wall. OK. 4- Took out air mixture screws, blew air thru idle circuit. 5- Blew air thru both venturi clusters, on and off carburetor. 6- Blew air thru both seats from fuel inlet. 7- Checked both seats for gasket. OK. 8- Pressured tested seats, sprayed soapy water on seats. Found one seat to be leaking pretty good, showing tiny bubbles around the gasket area. Loosened and tightened seat. OK. Holding pressure. This whole time both venturi's would dribble fuel down onto the throttle plates and fuel would run down the shaft and exit out the side of the carburetor. I know this is masking the problem, after doing this, started the engine and the venturi's were dry as a bone, NO LEAKS! 9- Raised float drop 1/4" Needles getting stuck while trying to close? I DON'T KNOW? What a PITA!
  8. Thanks Jon, Hopefully I can work on the car in a day or so. Looking for a pressure gauge tester.
  9. It's mechanical. Fuel pump is about 2 years old. This is a remanufactured carb. I got about 50 miles out of it, and then this all occurred, fuel leaking out the shaft, and both venturi's...
  10. I'll go over everything again, this is the 3rd time pulling the carb off. I'll report in a day or so. Thanks for the replies!
  11. This is while the carburetor is dry and cranking engine till it starts, with engine running for maybe a minute. Then fuel comes out on the passenger side shaft.
  12. The manual calls for float level at 7/32 drill bit. With a float drop of 3/4".... Has anyone experienced the 7/32 is too high and had to adjust the floats lower? The primary venturi's are dripping fuel on both sides also. When the engine is turned off. Any suggestions will help, thanks! Richie
  13. Sounds electrical, to me, back of the engine compartment, more of a snapping contact sound? Within the carb, distributor area? Wierd!
  14. Hi, Just saw this tonight sorry for the delayed response my friend Lance. Carburetor Center, EL Monterey, California. I'm planning on bending the heat stove pipe from exhaust manifold to the choke thermostat tomorrow. I would highly recommend this shop for liability and integrity! Treated me with good business!
  15. Drove the Buick to work again today, approximately 12 miles give or take? Exhaust pipe still dry!! Happy, Happy, Happy!!
  16. I had backfiring thru the carb, just on start up, come to find out, one spark plug wire was put on the wrong plug to engine. Just thought I would throw that out there.
  17. Update! Well after about 4 weeks letting my back heal up, I finally was able to put everything back together on the Buick. Straighten out the valve cover it was pretty bad, (bowed out). Sealed the gasket on put in place. A new valley pan cover, new intake gaskets which I put plugs in and a remanufactured carburetor in place. Took off down the road and drove about 20 miles with the exhaust as dry as can be! No oil leaking on the exhaust pipe! At least for now anyway. Thank you all for much appreciated help! Richie
  18. Awesome!! Glad you made it home safe! Really nice to have met you, thank you John for the ride. Richie
  19. I've had back issues off and on for the past ten years. Low and behold my back went out yesterday while getting ready for work! I'm sure it's because just looking at the heads all this past week! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! 🤣 Called in sick today.
  20. Ok, I have changed my mind. I'm going to focus on the straightning the valve cover to get the bow out, along with new cork gasket and sealant. Put everything back on and see if it helps. Really appreciated all the replies! Richie
  21. I too enjoyed it tremendously! A privilege to meet these two fellows John and Gary! Safe travels back home John!
