  1. It looks like the kind of car you would WANT to leave outside and and drive on salted roads because that earlier restoration really didn't do the car any favors. That 20 foot green paint job is not an authentic color and it has a matchiing (ugly) 20 foot interior as well. The firewall shows this was a black car originally. The odometer might say 54K but you'd have to prove to me that mileage is original. The engine has a gray or silver head on a block that was painted red at one time. The dashboard & garnish molding paint has cracked and faded out and the interior chrome including the door handles is pitted. The paint on the steering wheel is pretty worn too. The small trim pieces under the taillights are missing and the long stainless trim on the rear fenders aren't original to the car and they even appear to differ somewhat from the left to the right side. Maybe there's a few surface rust spots are showing on the bottom of the driver's door too, pictures in that area are a little fuzzy. I just don't see this car as anything special, the odometer could have easily turned over and that almost $5K asking price is probably optimistic. There seem to be plenty of similar (say 1949-1952) era Mopar 4-door sedans that turn up for sale and IMO if someone was willing to shell out a few thousand dollars more and with maybe a little patience & luck I'd think $7K-$8K would get you a pretty darn nice example of an old Dodge, Plymouth or Chrysler sedan that would be right at home on the local show field. I apologize for the rant but I think there are better cars out there, just one man's opinion.

  2. Scam? $32K for a 4-door HT with a rusty hood? One CL pic shows a rather scruffy looking section of the engine compartment  Pics look old to me and not current. Winter pics, summer pics, car shows, different locations.  The was no 1962 Cadillac color called dusk rose pink. Finally the VIN nunber shown in the CL ad is not for a 1962 Cadillac, it should be a 9 character number starting with 62 then a letter, not a later 17 character number with a bar code. Things just don't add up here. "Ready to drive anywhere from the minute you buy it." Who talks like that anyway?

  3. Some pictures show scruffy paint, some pictures show shiny paint. Incorrect interior, says 100K miles, different license plates, has been for sale for 2 months. If it currently looks as good as it does in the shiny pictures at that asking price it would have been sold a long time ago. Apparently even the local flippers don't want it. Pass, I certainly wouldn't be driving 6 hours to see it. 

  4. I always thought those small glass Optikleen bottles originally held a special solvent that was supposed to be mixed with water to act as antifreeze for the larger plastic washer fluid reservoir mounted under the hood. It lowered the freezing point of the washer fluid so it wouldn't freeze up over the winter months. The solvent could also be used as a windshield cleaner that was supposed to dissolve the bugs on the windshield as well. I could be wrong but I thought there was a little something more than just regular washer fluid in there when the cars were new.

  5. Plymouth did not offer that paint scheme with the lower quarters painted the same color as the roof in 1953, 1954 or any other year for that matter. There is a diagonal body brace at the lower rear quarter behind the rear wheel where dust & road dirt collected over the years and along with the typical lower areas around the stone guard & rocker panels these were common rust out areas. My guess is there was some rust there that was repaired and the easiest solution was to paint the lower quarters to match the top. IMO it does nothing to help sell the car or make it more attractive, it's just pointing out a problem area that needed to be fixed.

  6. For the record, 1954 Plymouth Savoys & Plazas didn't have the upper taillight fins, it was a Belvedere only thing. Someone apparently put a lot of work into this car with the paint & chrome but the price should be a lot closer to $3K than $30K for this particular model car and what you're getting. Maybe the seller is "numbers dyslexic" and didn't mean to type in 30,000 but I really think this just another throw it up against the wall and see if it sticks fishing expedition hoping to find a novice (stupid) buyer that doesn't know any better.

  7. Not enough pictures. Can the low mileage claim be verified? Car shows potential but there are some loose ends to be dealt with like the missing trim under the passenger side windshield, dangling PW switch on the drivers door and some weatherstrip issues. The top of the back seat needs redone too. Why is the air cleaner & possibly a can of starting fluid stored on the back seat? Long storage, stale gas? Would like to see what the engine compartment looks like. Ready to drive & enjoy at $25K? Some questions need to be answered. GLWTS.

  8. In your attempts to get the car started, DO NOT try to run the car on whatever stale crap is in the gas tank! Old stinky gas is bad stuff. Disconnect the line to the tank and use some kind of an auxiliary fuel supply with fresh gas from under the hood. At some point you will need to remove the gas tank from the car, completely clean it out and check it for any leaks.
