The bottom "ovaloid" shaped tailight looks like an early '50's Packard. Is there a part number cast into the back of the housing to allow a positive identification?

No visible numbers cast in but it looks like dalef62 is correct.

      -thanks!

PK hammer if you get up to south central Pennsylvania I'll teach you in my Stanley

Thank you, I appreciate that offer and I think that would be awesome! I got to ride in Willis Abel's Stanley years ago down in NC at Ken Eder's 100 years of progress farm show. I was amazed at the power it seemed to have. A gentleman had a Stanley at the Shenandoah Steam and Gas show in Berryville, Va a few years ago but I didn't have a chance to chat with the owner. I've messed around with steam traction engines for a number of years so I have a fascination with the steam cars too.

I really need to take you up on your generous offer once it warms up!

  4.   My Wife got me a gift of the Richard Petty driving school for my 40th birthday, 20 years ago, at the Bristol Motor Speedway. That was a blast and like Swear57 they gave us a printout of our speeds and lap times. I was only one of a few in the class that had at least one lap that topped 100+ mph. Going into those steeply banked turns at 100 mph is quite a thrill!

Just as much fun was Taking a class that used to be offered at Williams Grove, Pa. where they gave you time at the throttle of a real steam locomotive. I also have my steam engineer's certificate from a class I took in Somerset, Va. operating steam traction engines. Maybe I need to buy a Stanley? 😃

My take is people want Hershey to be successful.

Steve, you are 100% correct. Any comments or suggestions that I make are ONLY made because I care about the AACA, the swap meet, and the hobby in general. Anything I say or suggest is not meant as criticism in any way. If I am able, I'd be happy to do my part to help in any way I can.

I agree with this one from Mr. Hammer, take the orange or red field, or whatever area works best, and do this.  Same price as a regular spot, but it would resolve a lot of the non-vending spaces issues when walking the field.

It would of course need to be on a fist come, first serve basis AFTER all of the real parts vendors have registered and secured their spots. After a certain deadline the rest of the unsold spaces could go for parking, as you say, for the regular space price. Perhaps those persons who are disabled/handicapped could be first priority with scooter rental/registration nearby.

  7.   My interests have always varied widely. When I was younger, it was muscle cars, motorcycles and hot rods. As I've aged I lean much more toward the earlier stuff, in stock form. As far as working on them, I've torn many cars and trucks down to the frame for a total rebuild, and even finished a few of them! 😃 These days my time spent in the garage is a lot less than what it once was. I just don't have the ambition to do the heavy work like I used to. I've always had a lot of projects sitting around and not much to actually drive and enjoy. I hope to change that in 2024. I weeded out (sold) a lot of projects this year (kept a couple I'd like to finish) and made room for a really nice driver. I've looked at everything from brass-era model T Fords to a late 70's Dodge 'lil Red Express truck. I'll know the one (or ones) I need to buy when I see it.

  8. Prices likely don't vary a lot over the years because supply and demand doesn't vary much either. There are lot's of Model A Fords still around so other than a select few models, are not rare. Demand has remained steady over the years as well, not fluctuating much in either direction. With not much change in supply or demand, prices will probably not be much different 10 years from now. Some are of the opinion that as the older collectors pass on, demand will go down. I will agree that is already happening with model T, but I think model A's will always continue to be popular with collectors since they are an inexpensive way to enjoy the hobby as well as a joy to drive.

  9.   I'm all for consolidating the vendors that actually show up for the week with cars and parts to sell and weeding out the no-shows and folks that only buy spaces to park, but there simply is no easy answer to make that happen. If there was a way to consolidate all of the no shows or parking space buyers to a particular area like say, the red field, (please no hate mail from Red Field vendors, that was only given as an example) the AACA still gets paid for ALL the spaces and all of us real vendors are much more consolidated.

Dreaming about such a plan is the easy part. Figuring out a way to make it happen is the hard part.

Would people be honest enough to fill out a registration form if it had these questions?:

      1) I am a vendor that sells cars/parts and plan to be set up for the week selling ____ If my spaces are found to be unoccupied, I risk losing my spaces or being moved in the future.

      2) I would like to purchase ____ spaces on the show grounds for parking only.

      3) I would like to purchase ____ spaces in order to retain spots although I do not plan to attend this year. I understand that by not attending my spaces may get moved.

Just thinking outside the box a little.........feel welcome to poo-poo the suggestion.
