Thank you to all those who welcomed Hannah and I with firm hand shakes and long stories and the ASC meet. You are a wonderfully social group willing to provide advice that is greatly appreciated and tell stories that keep smiles and laughs going until the wee hours of the morning.
A special thanks to George Rohrbach for the ride in his 22. We both loved it regardless of the wind and cool Temps. It wasn't really all that bad.
John Kircher and I had a chance to meet Bob Kapetyn and his warehouse. Wonderfully knowledgeable Studebaker man with a memory of his warehouse and parts that has to be photogenic. He can guide you from memory anywhere in that maze. We even managed to find some parts for our 34's.
Next is Andy Hook. Yes he is still around and just as full of great stories and advice as ever. Although he is not on this forum he has become an advisor, mentor and parts supplier when I am most in need. Thanks.
To round off my week after driving home the 9 hrs, I immediately dug into my 34. Brake shoes and drums installed. Tired swapped onto my wheels and engine transmission married and installed in the chassis. A very successful week.
Thanks again to you all. ❤

❤ I showed Hannah the picture and a big smile took over her face! Thank you George!

Sounds good Gary!
I'll have to see what I've got to donate!

Thanks. I am really excited to go. My Daughter and I will bum any ride we can as we aren't bringing a car this year. Riding in an old Stude would bring the biggest smile kn her face!

Thanks Rex!
I think I will continue to use it. Judging by the measurements of mine comparing to new assuming JFranklins numbers are the same as a new one for my Stude it is less than 1/2 used.
See you in South Bend!

I'll measure one I have and post. Nag me if I forget!
Here is a company that does many makes of clutch.
I was on their site last night for universal joints for my 34. Thanks. Might be a real expensive order from them. LOL

Thanks for checking. I'm not far off your new clutch measurement then. I'd call it used but not worn out. Gives me a little more confidence to put it in and look for a new one for the future.
-
I don't have a clutch to measure. I'll ask some people while at the Nationals in a couple of weeks and see what info I can gather. If I can find a new clutch I'll buy it regardless.

Are there any specs for clutch plate wear available for early 30s Studes? Mine looks a bit worn but I think will still function but I would figure there should be a go/no go thickness for them?
Specifically it's for a 34 Dictator.
Thanks

Good to hear. Mine took alot of convincing to come out. Not sure if from rust or just a tight fit.
-
Thanks for the info guys. It gives me some confidence in what I'm seeing inside. The input bearing seems to be the only one with wear. There is no rust from. Water ingress so I'm safe there. I have a feeling there was a slight lack of lube from a leak which might explain the one bad bearing.

I'm guessing by the plethora of responses they are fairly bullet proof.
😁😉

There is a lot of leverage needed to pull them down and connect them. I'm sure you found they spring back real easy though. 😁
Glad you figured it out.

Thanks. I looked yesterday at the site and there is no info about the meet. I'm looking for a first hand experience impression.

I will be attending this year's National meet specifically for the ASC portion. My 14 year old Daughter is excited ti come with me. ❤
Are there planned events?
Is there a swap meet?
Is there a place to bring a camper trailer to stay nearby?
I've been to Hershey and Carlisle many times albeit a decade or more ago. Is it similar?
Thanks

I have a fill plug on my 34 Dictator. I would thi k you would as well. As for oil I'm pretty sure mine calls for 90w gear oil.

I made my own out of standard gasket material you can get at any Auto Supply store. Now that I think of it, I might have made it out of cork gasket material. Either way, very easy to make.

Rex: How do the adhesion and damping properties of cast urethane compare to the vulcanized rubber parts?
When I had to make a rear transmission support to put overdrive into my M5 truck, i wound up using original-formula Pliobond cement to attach 1/2" thick rubber to a steel support. I clamped it and let it sit for a week to be sure it was adhered. More than 16 years later, it's still OK. The original STudebaker parts were vulcanized. Pliobond is/was rubber dissolved in a very stinky solvent, probably now outlawed by EPA and OSHA. Interestingly, it was also sold by fishing supply companies to paint on knots in fly fishing lines to prevent them from coming loose.
Interesting information.
When I took the rear mount apart to blast amd paint, the rubber appeared to be more of a resin than rubber. I thought it was just because it was so dry and old.

FWI, I tore apart a 4 door Dictator a few years ago. I have a bunch of really poor quality parts if you need some.
Poor quality is better than none at all. I'll PM you and get some more info. If the dam border would open up it would help. I'm hoping to make it down to the National meet in Southbend.
2022 National meet Thank you!
