Looking for the Chrome Trim Side Strips that runs along running board, probably rare as rocking horse poo but if you don't ask you never know. I only have the holes but i assume profile would be the same as the side panel chrome trim work. Side strips would be ok as i can probably re-model and joint. Thanks, Peter

Uptowndodge do you know why there was a size difference for that year. If it was in 36 i would have said for Airflow and Airstream possibly, not knowing the Airflow size. -
Would an LED bulb fix the problem as they will draw less Amps as LED Watt size would be less than old conventional.

Thanks Bloo, these are off my 1936 Desoto Airstream which is under a slow ground up restoration. These handles were similar to a 1936 Hudson. I think getting a set that are half usable is the trick.

The chrome work was completed. I had replacement springs made, the original ones were rusted/corroded and would have failed down the track. Pushed together, compressed and inserted circlip.

Hi Jack M, The one Uptowndodge has shown is from my research for a 1937, could be wrong. I measured the the whole in the wheel and it is roughly 2 5/8" This is what i believe to be for the S1 36 Desoto. -

Hi JACK M, I had a look on the internet and this is what came up. I think the one on the left is 37 and right 36 but not sure as i do not have anything. Happy with either to fill gap. -

I am in the process of fixing my exterior door handles and thought it may be of interest to some, it may already have been covered. The handles i had looked a bit sad with shaft badly rusted. To get the escutcheon off, I had to grind away the pressed section on the shaft. This allowed the square holed washer, spring and escutcheon to slide off the shaft. This was done with a angle grinder and a clamp to hold the washer and spring out of the away. I then cut the shaft and welded a new shaft to it which was machined down to match original prior to welding. I noted where the washer sat on the shaft and then cut a small groove in the shaft to allow for a circlip to be inserted. I covered the handle with a wet rag to try and cut back on heating of the handle while welding. I have sent the handle and escutcheon away to get chrome plated and await their return. I will post a photo of them and of the final assembled bits with circlip later. Peter

Thanks, will give that a go. I did think they were only pressure attached rather than some sort of clip.

Is there a trick to remove the trim that goes around 3 sides of the glove box door. I need to remove it so i can get them dipped and primed ready for woodgraining.

Hi Xander, Looks very similar mine does not have the front window crank. I am awaiting panel shop to get back to me on their search for my parts, I can let you know next week. If they cannot find my parts, I would be interested in glove box doors and hinge springs. The LHS one looks to be hinged from top and did it use a knob to open? Also interested in ash tray. Hi, Would there be anyone out there who has a 1936 Desoto Airstream parts car with both glove box doors and hinges they would consider selling. Not sure if the Chrysler Airstream ones are the same. I gave mine to the panel shop for some work and they seem to have miss placed them. I am awaiting panel shops final search but thought i would throw this out there. Thanks, Peter

John, I looked at 1936 Hudson handles and they may have used them as they look very similar.

Hi John, Yes the pin idea was what i was thinking. Here are the photo's of the handle and crank. So i am guessing that the spring part would need to be removed before chrome plating is done. There is a guy here in Aus who is very good with re-chroming pot metal parts. My Desoto being in Australia was put together by JT Richards in Adelaide and the door handles may have been used on other cars but difficult to find similar. I was reading that often a mixed box of parts were sent out from America with earlier parts etc and Richards had to make do with what they got. Do the handles look like anything Mopar you have seen before. The rib along the spin is Dodge but the sweep down end throws me. Thanks jpage it is what i thought may be the case you have to re-mold yourself. With regard to the levers made of that pot metal with your experience is it worth cleaning them up and chroming or are they going to break down the track. Have you taken the mounting escutchen off the handle shaft which requires grinding the pressed corners on the shaft off if so how did you put it back in place. keiser31, thanks i will make contact with him. My handles look like Dodge handles but the end sweeps down at end. I will post photo tonight. Thanks again Peter
