    About forty years ago, I saw something similar happen.

    A 1957 Chevrolet station wagon 210 Handyman with "Nomad" badges showed up in town.

    I watched that car change hands three times.

    Each time the buyer thought he had bought a Nomad

  2. At one time, many years ago, Dad had fifteen plus collector cars. He eventually sold them off except the Roadmaster.

    Among the collection was a '66 Lincoln convertible , with top stowing away in the trunk like your Ford retractable. 

    I thought the coolest thing was to park it at a show with the front hinged hood up, and the trunk lid in the air and the suicide doors opened.

    Those Retractable , hardtops, T Bird conv and Lincoln conv are the coolest

    Actually, the only one of my father's cars I drove was the '70 Bronco. I couldn't resist. The rest I have refused to drive.

    After my Dad died and left me the Buick, I was nervous to drive it. 

    Dad's last words to me from his death bed were,

    "Take care of your Mama. And take care of my Car"

    Each time I drive it, I'm more comfortable than the previous time. 

    At first, I wouldn't take it past the first traffic light.

    After a few months, I took it on a 200 mile day trip.

    I'm not familiar with the Ford latch. 

    But, I'm assuming it's similar to my Buick.latch barb bolt looks like?

     

    Is this what your hood latch barb bolt looks like?

     

    to elongate , turn it counter clock wise

    to shorten , turn it clock wise

     

    You'll also have to adjust the stops that the  hood rests on.

    Again, I'm telling you from my experience with my Buick

    Run a piece of masking tape up the full length of the post where it rubs against the latch and close the hood. That will tell you if you're getting to the latch point. If you're low on the barb you can adjust for height, if you are beyond the nub best to replace for safety sake.

    I had the same problem with my Buick

    I fixed  it the way Digger described. Turned the barb bolt to make it longer.

    it's a trial and error process

    And you are right to put lots of grease... copious amounts of white lithium grease

    Anyone remember finding lead nodules on spark plugs sometimes bridging the gap ? Was one reason plugs needed to be changed frequently.

    I think it is beautiful just like the picture.

    And boy-o-boy do you have guts........ to drive that big Buick around the Netherlands with the gas prices as they are now.

    That is a better ride than the King or Queen or whom ever runs the place.

    And with the steering wheel on the left side too..
