  1. I have this info that comes out of the book Seventy years of Buick by George H. Dammmann, 1973. In the book it states that Jan.1 1942 the government prohibited the use of chrome thus came the black out models. Buick did have a stock pile of bumbers and could use them. The government ended vehicle production Feb. 2 1942. Between Jan. 1 and Feb.2 buick produced 16,601 vehicles which was 7.6% of the industry's total production. That was enough to hold Buick in fourth place. Hellcat production was 2,507. The 39,000 lb vehicle could hold a steady 50 mph on level ground with a 150 mile range with a 165 gallon fuel tank. It was slowed down to 15 mph on a 10% grade and was able to climb a 60% grade in low gear. Power was by a Continental C-1 or C-4 gasoline engine and a torquomatic tranny 3 forward and 1 reverse. Also produced were 19,428 power trains for other types of tanks,Pratt and Whitney radial engines, over 3 million cylinder heads for Pratt and Whitney engines.2,952 mounts for anti-aircraft guns, over over 2.5 million steel cartridge cases, and almost 10 million 20 mm. shell bodies. Cal.
