All good advice but two related items. Replace all suspension bushing items then do proper alignment. I wouldn't get caught up into poly bushings as you might not like the ride!

Mike just thought of something. Make sure with your big rig your hitch is adjusted so the trailer is level as an unlevel loaded tandem trailer is tough on tires and suspensions.

Larry yes your method works as when I have to tow a car not mine that is the method It use! I don't have any experience with non old muscle cars so will leave them to you!
Mike your tow vehicle will easily compensate for a few pounds off so sounds like you are good to go as I enjoyed your explanation as adjusting the vehicle to the door. I haven't used the diapers and have just used cardboard or a large pan I found at Walmart. They don't move around too much on a diamond plate floor in my experience. I actually don't use anything under the 62 but use large size when hauling the 61 as it is a great marker of territory. Seems to be typical as it has power steering and an old iron cased power glide and the 62 has manual everything. Seems the original person ordering that car just ordered the big motor to go fast with no optional convience items.

Mike:
I decided to show this photo. I have a 24 foot 10,000 aluminum trailer and to achieve the proper tongue weight the 61 and the 62 have to be almost out the back door! But my weights on the tongue are correct! Luckily the manufacturer realized that and moved the "D" rings during build to accommodate that issue. I have towed several other cars for friends but all have been very close in placement to the area of mine. I have no experience with the weight of your classic Buick.

ok Mike I'll take a start. Looks like you have a 10,000 pound sticker trailer so.... you should have about 1,000 pounds tongue weight for good towing. Your teeter toter example is good for finding balance. You just need to move the car forward until you get 1,000 on the tongue with the trailer level(important). There are many ways to scale that if your bathroom scale doesn't go that high, as all won't, using fulcrum points. I hope your escape door will be in the correct spot when you get the car correct. That door location won't work with my 61 or 62 Impala's.
Next question is what are you towing with? I strongly suggest one manufacturer's equalizer/sway control system as it works! You can't adjust that system until you achieve your tongue weight though so one thing at a time. Too bad you aren't on the east coast as we could get it done in a few hours.

Anyone have 36B photos?

John 18 cars in 36B so I will be busy Sat but stop by after Judging. I believe 3 62 409 cars are here! I know two of them so is the 3rd yours.

A friend of mine showed me a flood pumping station that had a very old engine that was replaced with a diesel and the battery that still started the old engine was an Excide, over 50 years old.
They can make them good if they want to!
yes those batteries you saw are awesome but not conventional lead acid and the charger/controller ain't cheap either. We use them also.

Yes a venting cap will suffice with no ill effects.

F350 7.3L Turbo Diesel Dually woof, woof!
Or a F350 6.7 Turbo Diesel

Maybe us east coast guys could get a cactus for the miles traveled?

I will be up after noon on Thursday bringing my 62 SS car for the Sat show 36B. Stop by.

The photo shows the importance of a proper placed escape door. The beaver tail design floor and proper placement of the "D" rings is important.
Robert
oops the photos didn't attach! Got to work on that!

I am seeing younger interest with my 61 and 62 348/409 cars with the younger group. Most of the comments are that their dad's either owned one back in the day or wanted one. But I hate to say I see a decline in the interest of this group in the 50' and more in pre 50's unless it is a modified rod. Sad

Is the Accel type A ATF the same as the old type A power steering fluid. My 61 Impala doesn't like the new thinner power steering fluids. Actually the iron cased HD power glide transmission doesn't like the new ATF fluids either.
Fortunately the 62 is manual steering and 4 speed so isn't a "leaker"

John I understand you saw the car at Reading PA a couple or so years ago

Thanks for the suggestion Dave. I have looked at area storage and none have available parking for 24 foot trailers (28 foot overall). Seems this area is seeing an influx of new residents and storage and parking facilities are at a premium and generally full.

I like the Chevelle!

I am thinking about bringing a car down to the south Florida AACA show Cars in the Garden October 26 as it is after Hershey. But.... Where can I park the trailer as Coral Gables won't allow parking in front of my daughter's house and I can't get it up in her yard. I probably will stay about a week with it and take it back up to Maryland.

Thanks midman. Three things I want to get away from are sweating, weight, and springs. Some years ago I remember seeing a screw drive for opening. Is anyone familiar with this mechanism?
Yes I have a screw mechanism and no issues as I lube it once a year. It seems quiet. Not sure about costs vs other systems. I do have a chain one also and have noticed sagging but still works great.

Another item needed is detailed photo of passenger A frame and adjacent area

Been watching this one. Need all stamped numbers on engine block pad. Need casting numbers on back of block on raised area where bell housing bolts on. The number needed favors drivers side of block and can be gotten with a mirror and good light. This will be tough due to the power brake booster but can be done. Also would like a few other photos. Exhaust manifolds as bolted to block. Check if iron cased power glide or is turbo glide. Photos of drivers fender well above A frame. Photo of firewall in area of tunnel but including top lip. Photo of heater box area and heater hoses. Photo of body tag attached drivers door. Interesting a one piece front bumper that might be straight.
i believe the current engine is a 348 250 hp. Would love a photo of head casting number but must remove valve cover. I am assuming the intake is cast iron?

I have a 62 and 61 Impala SS cars and don't recall rubber coated adel clamps on either. Will look closely at the 62 before Hershey! But have seen those type of clamps at several places.

I have even used cheap turkey aluminum cooking pans but they like to slide around the trailer sometimes.

Mike I don't recommend loading the light circuit for a battery charge. Virtually all 7 "blade" connections have an isolated fused battery charging wire in the number four position. On some tow vehicles that circuit needs to be hooked up usually to a connection on the firewall so don't always assume that the tow vehicle has power to the 4th blade. The same can be said for the trailer 7 wire harness that the power wire isn't hooked to the battery as must be a dealer hookup issue. In the unlikely event that you have a round pin 7 wire system I would convert it to blade unless all of your buddies are towing with class 8 tractors as that is the system they typically use. If using two house batteries I would recommend a properly sized diode separate them.
i liked your suggestion on alarming my car trailer but here on the east coast there is a bit of enforcement sensitivity to armed guards!

CHECK your enclosed trailer roof - leaks can result from screws backing out ...
