  1. Either the car has a big issue, or the dead owner is still in the trunk. Worth a call though.
  2. It's now early June, I initially wrote my "want to buy" post 4 months ago, and am still looking for the "right Corvair" for my wife and myself. We have learned a lot on this search .... some funny stuff, some not so funny stuff. Update on choices ...... Must be '65 to '69 Corvair models. First choice is a Monza Coupe, second choice is a Monza 4 door hardtop, third choice is a Monza Convertible. Corvair must have PowerGlide, must be a well maintained, turn key car. Price must coincide with the overall condition of the car being sold ..... meaning no $10K price tags on a vehicle needing another $10K in work. A clear, clean title with IDENTICAL NUMBERS ON THE TITLE AND THE CAR is a must. No reconditioned cars with SALVAGE TITLES, etc., or any cars with "STATE ISSUED SERIAL NUMBERS". We are CASH buyers. We are in western North Carolina near Asheville, cars for sale close by is good, not so close will also be seriously considered. I have welcomed any and all contacts, but please make contact only if you're serious about selling a nice car or know of a nice Corvair out there. If your husband or wife has a say in the selling of the car, please have their permission BEFORE you make contact with me. No evening orchid color. P.M. here or an email to me at; bobg1951chevy@ellijay.com My wife and I are retired folks, our 2 beautiful '51 Chevys 2 doors are now for sale, since my "clutch knee " is not so good any longer. We are also downsizing and selling our one owner (us) 2009 Chevy Traverse 8 passenger SUV with a pampered 89K. Immaculate in and out. My wife cannot physically handle the non power steering and non power brake"51's, so an automatic for me and an easy steering and stopping car for her makes our choice a Corvair. Thanks for taking your time to read this. Bob.
  3. "Pull, stretch, pull, stretch...hog ring...cut hog ring, pull, another hog ring..." Sounds like a date on Saturday night with "Swinger Sally" at the local drive in !
  4. F & J .... I am looking for a nice turn key( good to excellent) '65 to '69 Corvair Monza, must be powerglide and no evening orchid color. Choices are in order of preference .... (1) Monza Coupe (2) Monza 4 door H.T. and (3) Monza Convertible. Thanks. I was 95% certain I had a deal on a very nice '65, but the owner is currently occupied with other priorities, so my search must continue.
  5. Well Frank, you know my hunt for a Corvair continues ..... and continues and .... on it goes. :-) The assistance from this very AACA forum, including Frank and many others, in helping me locate the "right" Corvair has been outstanding and I'm very thankful for each lead that these AACA members provide to me. Thanks to the "welcoming attitude" of this AACA forum, I've joined the AACA in April and now am part of the monthly meetings, in our area.
  6. I've seen no bitterness in this ongoing thread, but I'm not looking either. What I do see is a variety of views and opinions, which is always good.
  7. Yes sir, V.L., I am happy you made the trip so well, am proud of what you have accomplished on this trip and impressed with your dedication to your Dad. I agree with SC38DLS, we were concerned for your well being, and certainly thankful for your 4 legged co-pilot's protection. You're a trooper, without a doubt.
  8. It's always a concern "online" as to how someone interprets what is written. The only solution is to meet at a selected AACA members home and discuss our love for cars, face to face. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  9. F & J, the color on your car is beautiful, unique, uncommon and not RED ! The white interior, top, and running boards further compliment the car.
  10. '58 Chevy had the air ride, as an option. Very nice looking truck and AMX.
  11. If you're addressing me, I'm looking for a nice '65 to '69 Monza Coupe, with P.G., prefer the 110 engine. No evening orchid color. A nice, turn key car with a reasonable price that corresponds with the quality of the car. In other words, no $10K tags on cars needing another $5K in mech. or body repairs. I follow a nationwide craigslist site, have not seen all that much in Florida, don't know why. I've had an ongoing thread for '65 to '69 Corvair here under buy sell and trade.
  12. When I was a tiny kid, 5 or under, I knew the makes of cars by the emblems on the hubcaps. That was in the early '40's, 1940's, not 1840's. When the hot rod era really came to life, I was there to watch that era grow. was mesmerized by what I read and saw. I was "hooked" with cars ..... new cars, used cars, hot rod cars, custom cars, cars in wrecking yards ...... I loved them all. I went through G.M.I. (General Motors Institute), spent my working years with Chevy Division of G.M. I belong to A.A.C.A., H.A.M.B. and V.C.C.A. One of my '51's is a stock 3 owner car, the other '51 has a "modified" engine, driveline ...... but the engine is still a 235. My search continues for a stock '65 to '69 Corvair. I guess my interests vary ....... I just like cars. I think I said those very same words when I was five !
  13. World War II ended, soldiers came home to their families, the guys got jobs and the hot rodding era came alive. To call "hot rodding" a "sub-hobby" would get you into a barrel of crap at any hot rod event, back then or today. Hot rodding was a "way of life", hot rodding is still a way of life to many.... just look at the ongoing events, car shows, cruise ins, coast to coast, seven days or nights per week. To truly appreciate the world of hot rodding, you had to be part of the movement, as it expanded exponentially in the '50's, when guys were "in the know mechanically", but not spending colossal amounts of money as you state, instead, utilizing their ingenuity to make whatever work with whatever they had to work with, in the garage. I see by your profile that you have just turned 16, can only tell you being 16 in the '50's was a mechanical adventure each day, with a tremendous sense of accomplishment with each achievement.
  14. No one ever needs to apologize to me for a "bum" lead, none of us know what is behind the printed text. I'm just "happy" to get leads that I don't see or hear about. Distance traveled ...... My wife and I traveled to Charleston S.C., about 250 miles one way. BEFORE making the trip, I specifically asked the owner about the numbers on the title matching ..... or not matching the serial number on the Corvair. Owner said everything matched. We made the trip and you must know the first thing I checked. The numbers on the title were missing two digits, when compared to the serial number on the car. :- ( That would simply not fly in NC. That was 2 months ago, owner was to get title work straightened out at his SC DMV. Never an update from owner, car is still currently advertised, at a lower price.
  15. I finally was able to make contact with this seller this week. Pics were sent to me, the car looked nice to my wife and myself. Have been considering a nice Coupe, as well. Contacted the owner of the above 4 door hardtop, told him I was making a decision between his car and a coupe, asked him when we could see his 4 door hardtop car. Owner replied, stating the car has been stored for a year, it needs to be cleaned and serviced before viewing. He THEN stated we would not be able to test drive the car because the plates had expired. Are you kidding ? I thought. Seller stated he would not clean and service the car unless I was THE committed buyer, then told me a transport of some sort would be needed to take the car home ..... no reason given. What happened to the "turn key and go", as stated in the ad ? Guess you know the rest of the story, if we are not permitted to drive the car and if the car must be transported off the property ..... that equals a no cash deal from me. The sellers description didn't mention all the "oh, by the way" comments. We will continue to make arrangements to see the coupe we found. Never thought an idea to buy a Corvair could get so tough. A true adventure !
  16. Whew, I'm relieved ! When I saw the title of your thread, I thought you didn't have time to work on your cars because you were helping a guy find a Corvair. As already stated, you certainly are multi talented. Your daughter should be very pleased, I'm certain her house and property could be placed within the pages of Better (Little) Homes and Gardens.
  17. Thanks for the replies A.S., and 1937, appreciate the responses, will hope someone is in the area.
  18. I'm an AACA member in Hendersonville, NC. I've been searching for a nice '65 TO '69 Corvair Monza Coupe. Either the price is way beyond my budget OR the price is reasonable, but the car isn't worth the tires it sits on. So...... I'm currently looking at a Corvair 500 4 door in the above mentioned area, but this area is 750 miles from my home. While I'm waiting on more detailed pics, is there someone out there in AACA land, with Corvair knowledge preferred, who could be my eyes and ears, if I decide to pursue this 500 4 door ? I would pay for your time, would appreciate a P.M. or an email. Thanks, Bob. bobg1951chevy@ellijay.com
  19. I joined AACA in April, actually rejoined after 10 years, according to records at AACA headquarters. When does the initial Antique Magazine come to me ?
  20. A.S., Thanks for the reply, we'll see how these other pics look. There is mention of ROOF damage, want to get a better look at that, in the upcoming pics.
  21. A.S., All great info and thank you. This N.Y. 4 door appears to be a legitimate low miler .... spoke at length with the owner this evening. He will be sending more pics in 2 days. I would imagine Monza buckets or other buckets could be located to replace the bench seat. The 500 has rubber mat flooring, repro carpet is available. It could work for me, at a modest price. We'll see what the other pics show on Thursday.
  22. Or perhaps this "Fitch" version. http://www.corvaircorsa.com/fitch.html
