Interesting that you have 3 hinge pieces like I do. Now I'm thinking that the forth piece on the left really is not missing but absent in the left hand drive (domestic) models and would be there for right hand driving models with the hinge to the extreme right not being there. Thanks for the photos. I hope someone with a 1928 model posts some photos otherwise I will have to improvise this seat back structure.

Here is a photo of the inside of my car showing the floor where the seats go and the area behind going into the rumble seat compartment. I believe there is woodwork missing here that supports the seat back and there are these 3 metal hinge brackets (it appears a 4th one is missing). Can someone please take a photo of their 1928 Chrysler roadster of this area so I can determine what has to be done.

Hi ligurian, I would love to see some photos of what you speak of, it may show that my springs actually came form my model 72 sport roadster.

OK, maybe a bad narrative on my part. Someone out there must have a set of 1928 Chrysler Model 72 bumpers somewhere.

This has been a real discovery process. I've read brake lines have been in 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 sizes. Then there is the 1/4 size all the way around except from the last tee to the master cylinder which was 5/16. It's hard to understand why Chrysler would have varied so much in such a short period of time. I'm puzzled......

That's a hoot Tom, I've seen engine compartment photos on line of 1928 Model 72's with and without them. It appears to be anyone's guess.....

You are correct, they must have been pulled when the body was removed. It looks like angle iron could be substituted, what type of bolts are being used?
-
OK but there are no bolts going through from the firewall into the brace.
-
Those 4 holes on each leg of the firewall, behind them is a piece of angle iron bolted to the wood skeleton that has holes that line up as well but there are no bolts going through the firewall holding them together? Any ideas about that?
-
If you do not disassemble the wheel I'm assuming you can't refinish the spokes completely or the drum because they are attached so closely together?
-
I will have to cobble something together. Thanks for the photos......
-
I would guess it's the one on the cross member where both sides come together and the output is going to the master cylinder. Looks like 1/4 in and 5/16 out.....
-
Great Idea and thank you. I did that, but should I just assume because you see a hole in the top of the frame it was for a body bolt?
-
There appears to another unknown here about the size of the brake lines differing between the master cylinder and the first brake tee and what continues after that. I've read 5/16 to the master cylinder and 1/4 after the first tee to the rest of the system. If so does it require a special tee with 1/4 lines in from the left and right and 5/16 out to the master cylinder? What determines these variations?
-
How many were used, where did they go and what size were they. I know odd questions but someone was overzealous with wood putty on the body skeleton and filled in most of the holes.....yikes!

Regarding the restoration of wood spoke wheels with this brake type. If I sand the exterior of the drums or have them media blasted do they have to be re-cut or shaved to restore the brakes to their optimum and who would be able to turn these drums attached to the wheels?
-
Hey Tim, what did they charge for this service? I spoke to a restoration shop and they quoted me a price that definitely said we don't want to do this job....
-
Where can you find the male brake tee's with brackets and line fittings needed to properly restore the early Chrysler brakes?
-
Thank you viv w!

The previous owner started to run some brake lines on the frame of the car using 5/16 brake lines. Is that correct?
-
Yes Tinindian, I have a battery box made of angle iron and now I know it is just someones attempt at a "farmer fix". Just what did the 1928 Chrysler battery box look like?
-
You guys are doing a great job thank you. Could we see some more on the routing of the gas line in a 28 Chrysler?

I think it's absolutely gorgeous! Now if I only knew what those things looked like on my 1928 Model 72 Sport Roadster I would try to make a set too! Any ideas on what they did look like?
