  1. Quiet, pointless, short break, or holiday, after a couple years of being locked down on and off and even when you're not locked down hard everything closed, sometimes it's just nice to have a night away from home.
  2. Collecting all the components is more than I've accomplished this Sunday. I was planning on yard work right up to the moment I stepped outside, but it was such a nice warm fall day that I gassed up my little roadster and took it out for what might be the last top down drive of the year.
  3. Kind of got the same thing going on here in the States. Imperial is the same as SAE and though we haven't officially switched to metric, almost everything that comes new today is metric and I got a 4mm tap couple of years ago and haven't needed to use it since.
  4. Hey Bernie, I know you have an extra set of hands that can help and if you have a little steamer like the ones sold for cleaning around the house for flattening the folds your hands and some PVC drain pipe makes suitable roller. Wear thick gloves just in case your hands get too close to the steam.
  5. Find a place to keep a big old bath towel handy for those days when the seat gets way to hot to touch or wearing shorts when sitting.
  6. Bernie, I can tell you from unpleasant experience that black leather in an open car sitting in the sun can get so hot, that sliding your butt into the bucket on a hot sunny day could cauterize your hemorrhoids. When I did the upholstery in my MG, I had black cloth sewn into the seatback and bottom sections, it still got hot in the sun, but not enough to burn your skin. I haven't done anything to change the black leather seats in the roadster I have now, but it has a (top) / hood that doesn't need to be assembled and is easily raised by hand.
  7. Looks like a fun project. Those wheels are about the same color that I painted my MG, so I think they look good, but I'm not as flexible as I was 30 years ago and I would want to add at least one door.
  8. Hi Bernie, Nothing like having a new project car show up in the driveway. Yesterday my youngest brother brought his new project truck over so I could help him with the wiring, he knew the lines were horribly rusty and he was going to be replacing brake lines soon, but one of the rusty lines blew when he parked in my driveway. Soaked my new asphalt with brake fluid so fast there was no getting a pan underneath before it made a mess, after I got my white roadster out of the way we moved his truck into my garage, got a complete ABS brake line set from the parts store and now I have a project car in my garage. The way I have it figured. if you're a car project kind of guy, better to go find your own project car, before a project car finds you.
  9. I actually know what the Morris is, but never heard of a Raworth Special and though Google searching didn't tell me anything about the Raworth Special it wasn't a complete loss as what was supposed to be Raworth images didn't have a single Raworth, but I did find a picture of the Dodge roadster used in the Great Gatsby movie that I had worked on decades ago.
  10. When you're wrong, you're wrong and this guy is wrong. Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda - No Engine Swap Possible Last weekend the owner of the RTGarage in Belle Plaine Minnesota, gave me a tour of a shop that specializes in MOPAR concourse quality restorations and / or some very high quality performance modifications If I'd brought a camera with, I would be posting an underhood picture of an old Cuda with a beautifully built front suspension, supporting a new high performance MOPAR engine.
  11. Bernie, Without the english wheel, how do you form those well shaped wings, running boards and boot?
  12. Bernie, I knew exactly what you referring to and I gave you the smiley face chuckle because there is no site available emoticon for a long ooooooooohhhh groan.
  13. Bernie, Have you ever considered learning paintless dent repair? 30+ years ago my dad helped helped one of the lot men that he really liked get started in his own paintless dent repair business, 10 years ago this man showed me how to do this paintless repair for my own metal panel and loaned me the tools I needed to do it. It's all practice and patience and this is a good practice panel. Practice on the easily replaced part and by the you finish learning on this part you will be able to fix the roof. Or you can leave things as they are and drive the car. Dimples on golf balls are supposed to cut down on wind resistance, and what's good for a golf ball could be good for a car.
  14. You know what they say about idle hand. Car projects like appearance and maintenance done in moderation are good for the man.
  15. The brake drums do fill the wheels and it's easy to see in these wheel pictures, but I did try taking a closer look, the picture of the Rapier on the street, even with the picture enlarged, doesn't have the image quality to clearly see the wire spokes. For 100,000 miles of use after restoration your little car looks great.
  16. I think this is one of those two peoples separated by a common language thing. In the States we have something called Social Security, a government run tax paid on earned income retirement income plan and we have tax deferred private retirement savings plans. In the States when your private income is over so many dollars Uncle Sam takes money away from your Social Security payment until you reach the magic age where you can make a fortune and not lose Social Security money. I know Australia has a government pension and private savings invest retirement plans and I know Australia has a very different way of doling out age qualified income and what we call an IRA might be the same as a Super. All my long distance excursions were done on the American plan, where Uncle Sam provided all the forms of transportation and I never had to consider the cost of hiring a car, or fuel, or food, or lodging. Cheap way to travel, but not always the safest.
  17. The car has great lines, bit I think it looks better with wire wheels.
  18. My prayers for Helen's full and speedy recovery.
  19. This is an old car forum, your car is way to new and your tranny is computer controlled, so what you find in this thread won't be of much help to you. To answer your question, if your chevy hasn't had a fluid change, it's way past due and don't flush it. Suck the pan dry with a vacuum evacuator and add a few quarts and drive it for a few hundred miles and then do it again. If things get better do it again. If things don't get better, you are going to need a two way scanner like a Tech2 to run diagnostics on your computer and valves, before you drop the pan.
  20. Bernie, Sometimes I just can't resist word fun and ALVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING. Good on you.
  21. You know firemen, they take pride in their trucks. If the truck came with the gold leaf, it probably came with the tacks.
  22. Philip you will get a lot more help by posting this on the TC forum section, but you will also get someone telling you to replace the entire brake system so I'll tell you the basics about your Teves brake system and you can ask some more specific questions when you know a bit more about what your problem is. Your brake pressure pump is electric, can you hear the pump running? If you don't hear the pump running when you turn the key to on, check your fuses and relays.Take a very close look at the remote fuse box located on passenger side just forward of the upper motor mount. Most no power to the pump problems are found at this location and many of these blocks are melted because of a bad wire connector so after you check the top side, use a mirror and look bottom. If your fuses look good and you don't see anything that has melted give each wire underneath a little tug and if one pulls apart you've found your problem. If your pump is running, you have brake fluid, no leaks and no pressure, you could have a very pricy problem.
  23. And a starter motor / solenoid that's going bad won't crank.
