  1. It would probably be a good idea to search the forum on this topic. This particular thread was created by me simply to encourage our members to use this site. The National Woodie Club does have car advisors for a number of different vehicles. Have a look at your directory to find the one for your 49 Ford. I personally have never been through the process of fitting wood, but, I am told it is a painstaking process. Bill
  2. As you may know famous collector Nick Alexander sold his collection of woodies almost 10 years ago. However, the upholstery shop he owned is still in business and using his name although as far as I know he is no longer personally involved. Back in 2002-3 Nick's people did replace the roof covering on my 48 Mercury with the correct material (it had to be painted brown though). I have no idea if they have any left but I'd suggest giving them a call at 323-582-7441. Located in Huntington Park, CA. Bill Sampson
  3. I urge all readers/members of this forum to visit the web site of the National Woodie Club. If you are a member of our club, please log in on our site and make use of it. It has been extensively improved thanks to the efforts of Vice President Wayne Yada. If you are not a member yet, we would welcome you and also invite you to join a local chapter or two. You'll love the camaraderie. Our site is: www.nationalwoodieclub.com Bill Sampson National Woodie Club President
  4. Fellow members: Immediately following the conclusion of the very successful first ever National Woodie Club show the NWC Board of Directors and officers met to consider the meet and future meets. I am pleased to announce that the Board has approved the Second Annual National Woodie Club meet. It will take place in conjunction with Wavecrest, thanks to the generosity of spirit of the sponsor of that event, San Diego Woodies. Details of this coming meet will be forthcoming over the next few months as they are developed. However, Wavecrest and our NWC meet will be held in Encinitas, California the weekend of Thursday, September 20 to Sunday, September 23, 2018. The board has also approved holding of a third annual meet. This will be held within the Eastern Region in 2019 at a place and at a time to be designated. It's almost two years away, but, we plan to give sufficient notice so that all may arrange to get their cars there. Bill Sampson National Woodie Club President
  5. Hello fellow members: I am pleased to report that the first ever National Woodie Club Meet, held on September 30, 2017, in Dearborn, Michigan was a resounding success. Forty-two woodies were in attendance along with their owners. According to Central Director Jeff Krickhahn that represents the largest woodie gathering ever that did not take place on one of the coasts. The weather, the cars, the people and the vibe were very reminiscent of the California shows that I have frequently attended over the last fifteen years. Jack Boyle, especially, Jeff Krickhahn and Jeff Hobgood, your Central Directors deserve your praise as it was their efforts that made this meet a reality. It would not have happened at all without the extraordinary efforts of member Cheryl Bassett, a Dearborn local who works for Ford and besides owns the Ford shoebox wagon that once belonged to UAW organizer Walter Reuther. Further thanks to all who attended. The board met the same night and has made plans for future meets, subject of another posting on this board and elsewhere Bill Sampson National Woodie Club President
  6. We were asked to bring our car to a paddle out for a long time local Malibu surfer. It was held at Latigo Point in front of the home of a 100 year old Pierce-Arrow collector who has lived on the beach there since 1950.
  7. Great story and welcome to the club. I'm the VP and if I can do anything for you let me know. I'd suggest joining either the Central Valley chapter of the Santa Cruz chapter (or better yet, both) as I think they are the ones closest to you. You should think about attending Woodies in the Valley for their GREAT show coming up March 13-15. Don't miss Friday night. http://www.valleywoodies.com/ Bill Sampson
  8. Nothing says Christmas in Malibu quite like a closure of Pacific Coast Highway
  9. SAVE THE DATE! Sunday, December 14th 11th Annual Malibu Christmas Woodie Parade! This year bigger and better than ever! . Details to follow (but you can RSVP to John Zambetti at Malibooz1@gmail.com now) PLEASE DO NOT RSVP TO ME - but to John only
  10. I know this may be late, but, I highly recommend Inter City Lines. They are headquartered in MA I believe but work nationwide. A very close second choice for me would be Reliable, headquartered in Phoenix, AZ
  11. I am guessing this photo is from one of the "O'Connor" crossings of the country.
  12. The 14th annual Woodies at the Beach show will take place in Santa Barbara, California, August 15-17, 2014. It is sponsored by the Santa Barbara chapter of the National Woodie Club. We have the best venue of all the woodie shows with spectacular views of the Pacific from a huge lawn. Entry is free for cars and spectators. The show itself on Saturday welcomes all spectators. The Friday and Sunday events are for woodie club members and woodie owners. More information is on the attached flyer. 13. On December 8, 2013, John and Joan Zambetti hosted the tenth annual Malibu Woodie Christmas Parade. It is a truly cool event which anyone in Southern California should plan to attend next year on December 14, 2014. It always starts at or near Paradise Cove in Malibu at about 2 p.m. so mark your calendars. Thanks to John for creating the music and the video using the work of the photographers/videographers mentioned in it. Here it is on you tube Bill
  14. According to the below there was a woodie on Monday night football. I can report that the Dodgers beat the Cardinals that night. Go Dodgers. Nevertheless, I have copied the below since a woodie reputedly appeared on a football game.----Bill -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We happened to catch video of a '47 Chevy woodie during a break of the Monday Night Football broadcast from San Diego. I thought I recognized the car as Marv Miles'. I just happened to have the Wavecrest program Mickey had passed out at the meeting right handy there in the motel room (in Annapolis, MD) and remembered seeing Marv's ad in it. It checked out, except that the program pic was older and didn't show the reversed wheels Marv has on the car now. So I wrote to him to check when I got back in the office today. Here's what he sent back. The link has some background on the shots they take in the home town of the football game and some still shots showing Marv. I don't know if there's any place to find the actual film. I'm sending an item to Dave Kagan for the web site while it's fresh. John Begin forwarded message: From: MMiles5050@aol.com Date: October 16, 2013 12:39:56 PM CDT To: woodietimes@windstream.net Subject: Fwd: Monday Night Football ESPN article <b id="yui_3_13_0_rc_1_1_1381948593785_30051">This will give you a little background. Allen Powers called me a few years ago, as I was the current President of San Diego Woodies. Allen and Joel do the local shots of all the cities where ESPN does the Monday Night Football. They wanted to do some beach shots with Woodies. I was able to get a location where you can drive a vehicle out on the beach. That year was just still shots. The next year we did a video from inside Rocky Brown's '33 Ford Woodie. They had Rich Grosch and his '49 De Soto, John Casey and his shoebox Ford, myself with my '47 Chevy and one more car that I can't remember. We all drive past Rocky's car as they video taped. We did not do anything last year as they used photos from before. This year they wanted to do a sunset video along the water. I invited two other members of San Diego Woodies to join in, however, their cars and/or schedules did not work. So, Saturday, October 12, we met at the Children's Pool area of Coast Blvd. in La Jolla, Ca. around 5:00PM Official sundown was 6:19PM so 1 1/2 hours of video tape turns into 19 seconds on MNF. They did shots inside the car, an outside mounted camera and tripod mounted in the middle of a busy street. Great Fun!!
