Hi i am looking for a starter for 1942 plymouth pb four door sedan. I have one the armature is blown up and i would need that or the whole starter. Does anyone have where i can buy this. Thanks Ed

What is the number on the starter data plate?

  2. The load rating of the motorcycle tyre might be a limiting factor, especially on the 23” you show.  That was a limited production cycle, at least here in the USA and 23” front tyre for it became nearly impossible to find in later years.  The Honda XL500 was a comparatively lightweight motorcycle which makes me question how well it would handle automotive use.  Trelleborg (sp?) makes some very heavy duty motorcycle tyres that might work better if they have something in your size.  My experience off road on Husqvarna and Honda spanned quite a few years.

  3. The above photo is my hometown, Branchdale a little bump on the road along PA Rt209.  At the top of the picture is the coal train leaving town. The picture was taken from atop a coal refuse bank, one of many that totally surrounded the town. The train tracks went right through people’s back yards!  No fences or other barriers to keep the train from running over pets or even people. We survived somehow but a few slow moving critters weren’t as lucky.

So for today, here’s a rough layout I have in mind.  The coal loader is really meant for steam trains but I could work for what I want to do. The CAT mine truck has real coal from the area near my hometown.  My son gather it years ago for his HO layout.  The CAT excavator in the picture is today’s purchase at the farm toy store.  It’s close to N scale and is only $4.99 plus tax.  A real bargain in the world of N scale.  The two brownish Pennsylvania hopper cars are used ones from eBay that arrived yesterday. I need to create some hills and bumps on the layout to give it some 3D effects.  I’m still rather new at this stuff so inspiration comes slowly 😀.    Almost forgot to mention, the little shed with the reddish door is my scratch build.  I used a craft stick that looks like tongue depressor as the wood source.  A bagful of them for $1.99 at the hardware store!

  4. On one of those Motor Trend TV shows they fixed the pushed in roof of an all original late 1960s Camaro by using a porta-power unit inside the car (interior removed) to press the roof back into shape, sort of like a big paintless dent repair.  I think it was the show that’s filmed in West Chester PA but I’m no 100% sure. Wood cribbing was used to direct and spread the force needed to pop the metal back into place.

  5. I grew up in the anthracite coal area of Pennsylvania, in the southern field area near  Minersville and Tremont.  I’ve been hoping to build a small diorama of the area close to my home where train cars got loaded with coal for shipment to Philadelphia and beyond.  Watching the train cars get loaded with coal was our entertainment in a town of less than 600 people.
Looking at what vehicles to use in the diorama the 1/64 Matchbox size is easy to find but train coal cars are not. Next was HO 1/87 scale.  Train cars are available as are scale size vehicles to use but they are bigger than the area I want to take up with my diorama layout. So I moved on to N scale 1/160.  I had one N scale coal hopper car already and I had found some almost N size construction equipment at a decent price at a local farm toy store.

So I’m going to try some scratch built N scale structures and set the layout size to 15” wide and 10” deep to keep it manageable.  I cheated and bought a prebuilt N scale coal loader to help me determine size of vehicles and buildings.  I have made a small scratch built shed like the HO one in the picture, the paint is drying as I write this.   Just doing that tells me this project is going to take a while…

If you have never been around a person with a serious mental illness you have no idea what it’s like to deal with what they justify as defending themselves from something.  Don’t be so quick to pass judgement until more facts are known.  I went through it with a family member, it’s living hell.
