Happy New Year! Carvana's auto dispensers were beaten to the punch by the "Nash Tower of Value" at the Chicago century of Progress exhibition in '33! This brochure was put out by Whiting, the company that made the rotating lift mechanism. Second page shows an aerial view of the whole exhibition, with a circle showing the tower location. King Kong was released the same year, maybe the fighter planes above the sky are just a precaution ! and, in case this all seems too retouched and partially credible, here's a link to a real photo of the Nash Tower. https://theamcforum.com/forum/nash-tower-of-value_topic75140.html

Merry Christmas! Here's the Actress Pauline Starke about to be picked up in her 1926 Packard 8 with Coachwork by Murphy. The notes on the back said her shoes matched the polished belt line of the car! She has an IMDB page, and it looks like her in this photo. Not sure the location - looks like a hotel, maybe what is now the Langham in Pasadena? Not far from Murphy body.

Sheepshead bay Raceway infield parking, either Astor Cup race 1918 or 1919 per writing on the back. What is that speedster lookin' thing aimed at the white painted tree trunk on the left? It's obscured by other cars but looks like something interesting. My initial gut reaction - Mercer raceabout looks wrong based on only 3 hood louvers vs 6 louvers on the Mercer pics I see on the internet.

Packard changed the dashboards every series in these years - sometimes just a little, but they're different. Top to bottom, by approximate year and exact series: 1927 3'd series - note the lever ignition switch to the left. 1928 4th series 8 cylnder and 5th series 6 cylinder- now all guages, ignition lever is gone, "replaced" by clock. 1929 6th series - flat dash, with kidney and oval gauges, but note the steering column bracket prodruding from the dashboard face. Clock has migrated all the way across the dash to the right side! 1930 7th series - flat dash, woodgrained, kidney and ovals, lower chrome edge has gradual change from below glovebox doors across the car. 1931 8th series - the lower chrome edge has an abrupt change upwardthen back down as it goes across the car. These photos are of cars I've either owned or sold over the years.

Ok everyone Happy Thanksgiving - I'm off to the patio to put the turkey on the smoker! Not even gonna try to keep up with Ed's photographic output today! Here's a shot from a promotion in Los Angeles called "Luxury Week". no luck on Google for that event. . Not 100% sure on the location - maybe Earle C. Anthony showroom in LA ? It looks like a dealer plate with the 4B prefix.

And here is Mr. Louis Pagett himself, at the wheel of his 1914 Cole. His sister worked at the Renault Dealership in Chicago , which abruptly closed down under some financial cloud. So Miss Pagett got 2 Montaut paintings that hung at the dealership. The one depicting the 1905 Renault Racer still survives intact and in the original frame!

Well I guess my Tin Shed comment about the Tri-motor wing in the background went over like a flying brick - I'm reduced to quoting Foghorn Leghorn - "I say it's a joke, son":-) OK no joking around this time! - Taken at the 1911 International Aviation Meet held at Grant Park in Chicago. My folks met the original photographer at this event, a Mr. Padgett, who was a neighbor. Many of the famous aviators of the time attended, and many of them didn't survive another year because of the inherent un-reliability of their aircraft was the story Mr. Padgett told. The auto is really hard to identify, it has some sort of advertising banner on top of the hood.

This looks to me like a 1929 Packard 640 - or maybe a 645 sedan, with a Dietrich body tag ( can't read it but it's the right shape just behind the sidemount. Parabolic headlamps and cowl band mounted parking lights preclude '28 4th series or '30 7th series. And of course someone modified for the rear view!

Here's a Rolls Ghost Town Car, taken in Exposition Park in Los Angeles in 1930. Rear brake only car, - pre 1925 - so Thurston Howell the first must have been having a lean few years! Could that be him in the impossible social situation of driving his own car? Lovey! Bring me a cocktail! Drat this Prohibition!

Looks like a '31 or '32 Auburn with some sort of Tri-Motor aircraft in the background! Riding in style on land and in the air!

The folklore was you could balance a nickel on the hood ornament of a running Marmon Sixteen - but this earlier balancing effort seems a little more spectacular!

Lots of Weird going on here - 17" lockring wire wheels, 1930 Packard senior headlamps, and a very unusual B and C pillar curve on what looks like a pre-1930 LHD Rolls Town car. Note on the back says taken in 1935 for the California Auto Co.
