  1. Martin Lum 1953 76X project<!-- google_ad_section_end --> I can't speak from experience but looks as if the hinges and hood could go on first. It really seems that there is no easy way of adjusting these or installing the springs around a freshly painted surface I am trying to get mine fully adjusted before I paint any thing. Once I have it where I want it I will drill and pin the hinge to the cowl for a quick alignment reference. Is there supposed to be any type of washer/spacer between the hinge arms and hood at the pivot bolts?
  2. I am going through this right now on my 53 Super. A very poor over all design. The hoods lack proper bracing and the hinges are sloppy. I would start with making sure my hinges do not have a lot of play in them. If they do they can be rebuilt/ re-rivited.
  3. Leif, Are the Roadmaster and Super the same?
  4. Those are nice books but not cheap
  5. Thanks Leif. What manual are you using to cross reference with? I would like to get a copy myself. Thanks again
  6. Are Hood hinges on a 1953 Special the same as a 1953 Super?
  7. Thanks JohnD I am proud to own it
  8. Martylum who did your shock rebuild?
  9. woman you best be a rowin us to a McDonalds watchin you do all that work is a makin me hungry!
  10. Her is a pic of my 53. My first Buick, my first old ride.
  11. Oh I forgot to ask one other thing . what did you do at the water pump, just put plugs in place of the lines?
  12. old-tank Did you remove the old cooler completely? Did you have to modify the existing outlet and intake lines off of the trans to attach the new cooler lines? The reason I ask is because if you look at the picture I posted of the 53 Buick trans cooler, the line connection points on the stubs look very odd to me. I am trying to picture what the conection lines at the trans might look like. I have not yet removed mine and don't want to until I find a viable replacement. You mentioned that you turn the fan on when necessary. Does that mean like in slow moving city traffic, when the cooler is not getting the necessary air flow? Sorry for all the long drawn out questions but, I am trying to get as much info as I can. The reason I want to relace my cooler is because it is starting to deteriorate and I don't want to risk burning up my trans. Some one has patched it on the outside so I am sure the inside is some what deteriorated as well. The OEM coolers are not easy to find. So far the sole NOS unit that I did find was QUITE esspensive. I am not bothered buy deviating from the original set up as long as it funtions as well or better than the original. Thanks for your time Rick
  13. It sounds like a nice set up. I am guessing that you mounted under the car to keep the stock appearance or was it easier being closer to the trans? After hearing how you have yours mounted I might go the same route. How has it performed for you so far ? how many miles since you installed it? here is a pic of a hard to find NOS cooler that a considerate fellow Buick owner sent me.
  14. OldTank, I saw on an earlier post that you mentioned having used a different trans cooler on your car. I am having trouble with the one in my 53 super and was wondering what you used. how is it hooked up and how is it performing for you? I am not sure if my hydromatic is similar to yours or not. If you have pictures that would be outstanding. If you don't might I suggest you post some so any one else with the same issue could gain from you efforts. Thanks in advance<o:p></o:p> Any help is appreciated.<o:p></o:p>
  15. Hey guys, I am looking for a dynaflow trans cooler assembly for my 53 super Riviers. My other thought is weather or not there is a way to remove the original unit and adapt a conventional oil cooler to this trans. What years were these used? will any other year fit on this? Thanks, Rick
  16. Looking for a dynaflow trans cooler , accelerator pedal linkage, seat adjustment handle and hood hinges or springs Thanks
  17. Stupid question but here it goes. Is a 53 super riviera with a 322 a 6 volt or 12 volt car? I am unfamiliar with the type of batteries that are used in these cars. The long and narrow shape is odd from what I normally see. There is no indication on the battery as to it being a 6 or a 12 volt. Thanks in advance Rick:o
  18. I am looking at buying a 53 Riv. I do not have any pics of the pillar tag.The numbers were located off center, more to the left side. I was really hoping to get some pics of frame numbers and pillar tags to use as a comparison. Thanks for the replies, Rick in Michigan
  19. I know that the door pillar tag and the frame numbers should match, and they do. I was hopinig to get some pictures of tags and frame numbers so I can see what they look like, for reference. thanks
  20. I am looking at buying a 53 Riviera. I was wondering if any one had some pics of a 1953 (or some thing close) Buick Serial number/ VIN tag. I am looking a at 53 Buick and the door tag does not look right to me. I am told that the door tag does not necessarily matter since they are screwed on and could easily be changed. The one that is most important is the number on the fram rail. Any pics of the frame rail numbers would also be appreiated.
