  1. Souds good Willie. What is anaerobic sealer?
  2. Any one have any pictures or know if there should be a gasket between the oil pump and block on a 1953 Buick Riviera 322 V8. When I took it apart It did not have a gasket. There was one between the inlet and screen housing and one between the screen housing and bottom plate. Thanks, Rick
  3. Will, I just put a set of Bob's seals in mine they went in fine and look correct . I will say that the rear axle bearings I got from them were so tight I thought that they would never seat, but they did eventually. Rick
  4. I agree just disconnect and roll back. Why work on some thing that is under tension and possibly have an issue.
  5. Just to clarify we are looking at item E right?
  6. I noticed in the 53 Buick parts manual that it shows a gasket or shim between the thrust plate and outer torque ball retainer. Is this a necessary part? If so how thick would it have been? I have the thrust plate bolted on but can see a minor gap between the thrust plate and the outer torque ball retainer. If they are not making even contact I would think this could cause a leak. Any suggestions?
  7. Stripgear, I REALLY appreciate the offer, you are VERY generous. I do not think I will need them. I think I figured out 53's did not use them. None the less, thanks a million for the offer. Rick
  8. Willie, I think you are right about the spline seal. After reading the information in the manual half a dozen times I keep coming back to the conclusion that the spline seal is unnecessary if the shaft has the sleeve. Sorry to rehash what we discussed earlier, just trying to get as much info as possible. Thanks, Rick
  9. Aaron, does the torque ball boot get reused at all or discarded? I was looking at the shop manual further and now I find myself more confused. Maybe you or some one can clarify this. In the attached scan it does not show a propeller shaft spline oil seal for 1953. It says that there is a sleeve pressed on to the prop shaft to close off the splines against the passage of oil. Would that mean in 1952 they a different style end on the prop shaft that would require the use of the spline oil seal? Does any one know how they are on a 54? Thanks, Rick seal 3.pdf
  10. Any one have a left side hood hinge for a 53 super that they'd like to sell? Give me shout if you have a line on one. Thanks, Rick in Michigan
  11. Hey guys if any one is still following this thread I have a few new questions. I read the aticle in the December 2009 Buick Bugle by Aaron Toth. In the article he mentions a spring loaded propeller shaft seal that should be on the shaft ( In his case it was missing from a previous repair). I am not seeing one on mine either, just a standard looking seal pressed in to the end of the torque tube flange around the prop shaft. I am assuming the seal that came with my fatsco kit replaces this. Would This application be different on mine because it is a super with a V8 and his is a 53 special?. Also, do I need a prop shaft spline seal or any thing else? Thanks
  12. Thanks Willie you are a wealth of knowledge
  13. Thanks Mike, I understand what you are saying. I am still trying to get a different feeler gauge to get an exact measurement of what I have. Once I do I will report back. The manual states that an acceptable gap is from .000 to .008". So I am guessing that as long as it will slide in or out with out much force I will be ok. I need to figure out where to have it milled down. Any ideas?
  14. Marty, I have a 53 Riv. Do you know if these are bolt in as well? Rick
  15. Willie, I did not have a feeler gauge large enough to get an accurate measurement of what it was. The spacer block will move around on the large retainer pin that slides through it. How do you get an accurate measurement? should I force it to one side and then measure the gap? I will try to find a larger gauge and get a proper reading Thanks
  16. Ok, I replaced my rear axle bearings, seals, and races. I am getting ready to reassemble and close up the housing. I installed the spacer block in its original position. The manual states that the rear axle end play should be between 0 and .008". When I place a feeler gauge between one shaft end and the spacer block I have more than .008". Per the manual I rotated the block 1/4 turn, but it will not slide in between the shaft ends in this wider configuration. Both shafts are pulled out as far as they will go and the U clips are seated in the recess on both sides. Are you supposed to measure one side at a time or use two feeler gauges and measure both sides together? I have attached photos of the spacer block. One side is machined but has what looks like wear from the axle shaft ends on the two opposing sides. The other (thicker side) is not machined. What do you guys think? Any input is appreciated Rick in Michigan
  17. Hey Martin, I am curious as to how you remove the dash on a 53? I thought they were welded in. Pull the winshield, trim, drill out the spot welds? Rick in Michigan
  18. Can you guys offer any tips on removal and installation? I am not seeing much in the shop manual pertaining to this procedure
  19. Thanks Willie, Is the typical torque ball seal kit all I will need?
  20. Getting ready to do my torque ball seal on my 53 Super. Any suggestions on who to get the parts kit from. Also is there any thing else I will need other than the parts kit. Here are a few I vendors I found. 21. looking for a seat adjustment handle for my 53 super. Goes on the drivers side of the seat Thanks, Rick
  22. Do you know what year etc I should ask for? Thanks
  23. Ok I was lucky to get my lock screw out in on piece. But looking at it closely I see that it does have some scoring on the pin area, so I would like to replace it for good measure. My question is what do i use? I read some where that a lock screw from a GM 12 bolt rear end will work. Any one have any suggestions. I would appreciate it. Rick
