  1. The button release for the parking brake was for the 1922 Oldsmobile. The hand grip release was for the 1923 Oldsmobile.
  2. The previous posting " if your car has drum shaped headlights, then it is a 1923 (earlier cars like mine had teardrop shaped headlights). Another tell tale sign is the parking brake is a hand grip release as opposed to a button release. I have some more photos of my friends car, but I don't have access to them right now. " Although correct, this was not submitted by me. I would like to know who did post it, because I have a question about the parking brake hand grip and button release. Thank you, OLDMAN
  3. I just found the answer to my question. A Sotheby's site on the internet has the following: Hershey 2015: 1923 Oldsmobile Model 43A Brougham sold for $19,250. Chassis no. 24365 engine no. C 8773. Inline four cylinder. "The year 1923 was the final year for the 43A". Since my motor no. is C 10774, it has to be 1923. Thank you all for your interest. Ross
  4. Hi Steve, The engine in my car has the same number that is on the spare plaque, i.e. C 10774. It had been replaced by a previous owner because the original engine, which I have, has a busted block and head. It has 4 cylinders. The spare plaque shows that it is a model 43AT. I have an "Oldsmobile Instruction Book for the Oldsmobile Four Model 43A" with the publication date of January 1923. There are illustrations showing both sides of the engine (4 cylinders). Illustrations in the book show that the 1923 43A has different headlights than that of the 1922 Oldsmobile 43A. I also have a "Oldsmobile Parts Book applying to the Oldsmobile Four Model 43-A". The publication date is June 1923. I posed my original question to hopefully determine if the motor in my car is from a 1922 or 1923. Ross
  5. I have a spare plaque with the motor no. C10774 car no. 25102 ( model 43AT). Is this a 1922 or 1923 Oldsmobile 43AT? Thank you for any responses, OLDMAN
  6. CUDAMAN, I tried the 0.030 setting, and my 1922 Oldsmobile was misfiring, so I did what you said and closed the gap to 0.025 and the firing was perfect. Thank you so much for helping me. OLDMAN
  7. Thank you so much cudaman. I appreciate your help! OLDMAN
  8. I have a 1922 Oldsmobile model 43AT. What should be the gap size of an Autolite 3076 spark plug? This spark plug also fits a model A Ford. Thanks for any help, OLDMAN
  9. Thanks go to Steve Moskowitz and Matt Hocker for their research on what wood was used for the steering wheel on my 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT. It is walnut. OLDMAN
  10. Does anyone know what wood was used for the steering wheel on my 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT (5 passenger touring ). The wheels are hickory, but I believe the steering wheel is a different wood. Thank you, Oldman.
  11. This dashboard is identical to my 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT 5 passenger touring car. From left to right: Oil gauge, Speedometer, Switches to turn on start mode and lights, and Amp meter. Above is the dash light and knob to open the vent on the cowl. At the bottom next to the steering column is the choke knob. Nice purchase. OLDMAN
  12. Thank you George. I was able to get the head for my 1922 43A Olds repaired a couple of years ago. I would like to have a back-up head, but funds are a little tight at this time. Thank you for your post. Ross
  13. 3/27/2022 Update. Thank you again Mark. My car with the 3 point suspension motor does have a Front Motor Arm (actually, a Motor Plate similar to the motor arm as on the 4 point suspension, but it does not support the motor) 3/28/2022 Update. I checked the Oldsmobile Parts Book dated June 1923 3rd Edition and it lists what I called the Motor Plate as the Gear Cover Plate which was used on and after engine no. B 24664. It is just somewhat different than the spare motor that is a 4 point suspension set-up. The motor number is right where you said it would be as per your information a year ago. I am approaching 80, that is my excuse for not seeing what is now obvious to me. OLDMAN!
  14. Hi Everyone, Does anyone know where the engine number is located on a 3 point suspension engine for a 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT? Thanks to Mark Santos, he told me where the engine number on my spare engine was located (4 point Suspension engine). It is not on the flywheel as it is on a 1922 Chevy. Thank you for any help that you can give me. OLDMAN
  15. Thank you George, but I had mine repaired. OLDMAN
  16. 48 year mystery solved thanks to you, Mark. I purchased my 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT in 1973. It came with a spare engine. I long suspected that the spare engine, which has a busted block and a busted cylinder head, was the original engine. The Serial Number Plate on the Dash (firewall) of my car shows Motor No. B17037 and Car No. 16476. The spare engine is set up for 4 point suspension, and the engine in my car has a 3 point suspension. Oldsmobile used the Front Motor Arm for the 4 point suspension up to engine No. B24664. After engine No. B24664, Oldsmobile went to a 3 point suspension. My car is set up for both a 4 point and a 3 point suspension. The 3 point suspension engine does not have the Front Motor Arm. Instead, it has a cast iron Gear Cover which rests on and is bolted to the Front Cross Member of the frame. The Gear Cover for the 4 point suspension is stamped steel. Since the engine in my car does not have the Front Motor Arm, there is no place for the motor number. I was able to find the motor number on the Front Motor Arm of the spare engine right where you showed it in your posting. Thus, proving that the spare engine was the original engine. In the 9 years it took me to restore my car, I could not locate an engine number. Unlike a '22 Chevy, the engine number is not stamped on the fly wheel. Thank you very much, Mark, for solving this mystery and the offer to help me with my 43A. -- OLDMAN (Ross)
  17. Thank you, I will check my '22 Olds tomorrow.
  18. Tinindian. Yes the engines are pretty much the same. Oldsmobile used the basic engine of the Chevrolet and put their name on the intake manifold plate. Where is the engine number on the 1922 Chevy?
  19. nzcarnerd. I quess that it is possible. Thank you
  20. Can someone tell me where the engine no. is located on the engine of my 1922 Oldsmobile Model 43AT? I have the plaque on the "fire wall" identifying the engine no. , but can not locate the no. on the engine itself. I have located casting numbers, but no engine no. Thank you, OLDMAN
  21. Thank you for your quick response. I contacted them, but they only have a two wire cut-out/relay. Tom Hannaford is going to send me a wiring diagram to see if his generic one listed for my car will work. OLDMAN
  22. Hello everyone, I need a cut-out/relay for my 1922/23 Oldsmobile model 43A (6 volt). Attached are pictures with and without the cover. Thank you, OLDMAN
