  1. Hi nickelroaster, Thank you for your post. you are correct that Olds has a three port head and Chevy used a two port head. Olds Model 43A has the same basic engine as Chevy for the following Chevrolet Models: 1920 Model 490 & FB, 1921 Model 490 Baby Grand, 1922 Model FB, 1923 4 cyl, 1924 4 cyl all models. The head is cracked. There is only one shop near me that does repairs, but they are not highly recommended. I was told that they are "hit and miss". If I can't find a head in a few months, I may take a chance that they can fix the head. I do not want to send the head to a shop in another state and hope they might be able to fix it.
  2. I need a cylinder head for my 1922 Oldsmobile 43A. Same as 1920, 1921, 1923 model 43A Odsmobiles.
  3. Currently, I am looking for the bracket that attaches to the right side of the "firewall" that holds the oil can. I am in good shape for engine parts. Thanks, OLDMAN
  4. Another variation regarding the 43-AT motor is that some were set-up as a three point suspension (two in the rear and one in the front of the motor) and some as a four point suspension (two front, two in the rear), i.e. motor mounts. My 1922 Oldsmobile 43-AT frame is set-up for a three and a four point suspension. The motor in the car is three point. My spare motor has an extended bar attached to the front to allow it to mount as a four point suspension. "Suspension" is the term used in the parts book I have which refers to how the motor mounts to the frame.
  5. I checked my "Oldsmobile Parts Book Applying to the Oldsmobile "Four" Model 43-A" (illustrated) copyright June 1923 3rd Edition and I wanted to note that another variation in the motors is the rocker arms. I have two engines for my 1922 Olds 43A with two different styles of rocker arms. In the parts book- Illustration 52 Plate No. 2, part no. 326610 Valve Rocker Arm-1st Type shows the arm that is solid, i.e. the push rod does not protrude through the arm with the adjusting nut at the top. The adjustment for the valve is two nuts on the lower end of the push rod itself. The other type of rocker arm has the hole through it for the push rod and is adjusted at the top with a nut as in later cars. What type of rocker arm does your 1921 have?
  6. From my research regarding the Oldsmobile 43A and Chevy engines noted in my previous posting; they are the same except for minor differences. One difference being that different electrical suppliers were used even on the same year as is the case with my 1922 43A. The push rods on the 1922 and 1923 (and I assume the 1921) 43A Oldsmobile engines are exposed. They do not have cover plates. You can observe them going up and down as the engine runs. My manual illustrates the engine showing the exposed push rods. I have not researched if the rear-ends (differential, etc.) are the same or not.
  7. I have a 1922 Oldsmobile 43AT. The "T" standing for Touring (5 passenger). Model 43A ( various models) was made from 1920-1923. The 1922 engine is original and was made by Chevrolet. Oldsmobile attached the name "Oldsmobile" onto the intake manifold. In fact, I have an original Chevrolet Instruction Manual issued September 1, 1923 with the same motor shown in it. Starting April 1st 1921, 1922, & 1923, Olds 43A 4 cyl has the same head gasket (pt. no. 326491) as the Chevy 1920 Model 490 & FB, Chevy 1921 Model 490 Baby Grand, Chevy 1922 Model FB, 1923 4 cyl., and Chevy 1924 4 cyl. all models.
  8. Can anyone recommend an electroplating company in the Maryland, southern Pennsylvania area? I want to have my 1922 Oldsmobile grille cover nickel platted. Thanks, OLDMAN
