Might check with Barney Eaton (on the Forum), who has a '39 Century Coupe with side mounts. Maybe he can tell if they are for a Century with 15" wheel vs. 16" on Specials.

Try calling DaveTacheny 7six3-4two7-346o - he is hard to reach but can usually help you find what you need.
Good luck - post back with what you find...

I'll join your group if you help each other. 39pickels
You will find '39 Team Buick members are the most helpful on the Forum. All you have to do is post your issue or question and put '39 Buick somewhere in the post's title and you will get responses from knowledgeable '39 owners. Look forward to seeing photos and hearing about your car.

Hmmm - with talk like that we may not think too much of you either!
-
Check LeBaron Bonney Company - they have window shades for other makes, so bet the can custom make if necessary.

BUMMER!

Thanks Terry, I'll check. Allan, I will call them, thanks.

Thanks to all - I have checked the external clips, springs and connections, and all seem to be okay. I will try to locate a '39 synchronizer for 2nd to 3rd gear, and if I can locate one, I'll check for other issues while installing the synchro. Till then I will keep my hand on the gear shift lever while in 3rd.

rstouttx, welcome to the Forum, and congrats on the new project. I am sure you will find all the help you need from people here in the Buick Pre-War group, they have sure helped me! Tell us more about your car and your plans.

Don, thanks for the info - the 2nd to 3rd syncro has been an issue since I have had the car. Have to double clutch into 3rd to avoid clashing. When I got the car you had to double clutch into 2nd as well, but heavier gear oil has slowed 2nd down enough that it rarely chirps when shifting. Now the fun part is locating parts for the one year only transmission!

Had the '39 Buick on the AACA Texas Region's Spring Tour this weekend - about 390 miles door-to-door. There were 11 old cars on the tour and 14 at the meeting on Sunday, so a reasonable showing. Cars ranged from '38 Nash Ambassador 8 up to an '84 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. Had no break downs and left no one behind.

Went on a club tour this weekend of about 400 miles in the '39 Buick and had the transmission pop out of gear a couple of times in 3rd. Happened when I was going downhill and let off the gas or there was no load on the gears. What should I be looking at to replace or repair? Any suggestions appreciated.

Billy, Those wide white walls have it looking good!
-
Pete, you are correct, Model 46 Special Business Coupe. Had a good time at the meeting and enjoyed seeing all the cars, especially David C's '39 - great that you got this survivor on the road again.
-
RPM, I got my parts in the mail today and have installed, and everything works great! What a great deal, and everyone was super nice to work with on the phone.
Thanks,
John V.

RPM, I have sent you a Private Message about parts.
Thanks,

Had our '39 Buick Special Business Coupe out on Saturday for a large charity car show with over 350 cars attending. It was about 20 miles one way, so had a good drive both ways.

Rod, we're trying to get this crazy weather under control, but as they say, if you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait 15 minutes. Hill Country and Big Bend should be beautiful if the warmer weather and some rain show up. Enjoy the tour!

Rod, this thread is six years old, and I am sorry to report that Mr. Corbin passed away a couple of years ago. However, in checking my Master Parts Book, the 1940 gasoline tank changed after the following frame numbers based on Series and Plant:
Series 40-50-60-70 Flint 1-3728142; 2-3611110 Cal. on Series 40; 2-3611113 Cal. on 60; 2-3611111 Cal. on 50; 2-3611119 Cal. on 70;3-3667477 Linden on 40-60; 3-3667237 Linden on 50-70. The gasoline tank supports also changed at the same time.
Hope this helps.

Cars, Inc. has both front and rear cables for '37 Series 60. I ordered front cable for my '39 from them and they had the manufacturer ship directly to me, so apparently they don't make them there. Their web address is: www.oldbuickparts.com.
Good luck.

It was nice to see some familiar faces at noon yesterday (Thursday). Maybe Pete got a decent shot of the motley crew, although he wasn't in the picture since he was on the other side of the camera! I didn't have much luck finding parts, but know several of those present had some success. Sure was nicer weather than last year, and I hope everyone arrived home safely.

Welcome 39Limited, we always like having a new '39 owner to share stories and photos with. Hope you will post some more information about your new car along with lots of photos and details about what you are working on as you get into the cars' resurrection from the long sleep.
Enjoy,

Did you check the battery cables - my negative cable was loose a while back and I had the same problem.
