If it were me (and it has been) I would install a new one rather than face the possibility of having to change it out again in the not too distant future because of the limited life left on a used one. Will post pics of a used one later.

Dave, are you sure that you want him as a customer? Is he one of the ones who's concocting counterfeit cashier's checks? I'd be dubious of doing business with him. He expects that everyone else in the world is going to treat him as he treats others.

I can understand the buyers apprehension. But, just because he's concerned about a transaction with someone he's met online, doesn't mean he has criminal intent. I also understand that the remark was probably made tongue & cheek but might be taken seriously by the buyer. Just say'n. Anyway...

I too was apprehensive the first time I made a purchase from Dave but, I'm here to tell ya, fear not! The man is legit and I would buy from him again, anytime.

That's a tuffy.

Most of the time, the sensor head is destroyed while attempting to remove it from the assembly.

Usually the sensor head will part company with the stainless steel "can". In some cases, the cast assembly can be cut in such a way that the stainless "can" can be removed with it's contents intact. You can do a search for further info.

Though it's not a good barometer of real value, Ebay is a good measure of what some people think a car is worth.

You could list your car there and put a high reserve on it so it won't sell but you'll get an idea of what it's worth to the gen. pop.

I see that you are sporting NY plates. That may lower the perceived value somewhat because of the salt conditions during winter and its detrimental effects to the undercarriage.

The other stuff is fixable and should be fixed.

There are many products as well as many posts on the topic of what to use to give the taillight assembly the shine we all want.

A search will provide many suggestions.

From what I can gather and from my own experience, what ever product is used, the shine never lasts.

I'm partial to Meguiar's products. Don't know much about the chemistry of such things but, whether due to washings or evaporation of the oils (polymers?) or whatever, the shine eventually goes away.

Well said Sir, well said. Took the words right from my mouth (again) and couldn't agree with you more.

(Forget a new accumulator or sensors. What I need is to find a brain like yours.

Not that mine is completely broken, just the part that takes the thoughts, forms them into words then pushes them out the fingertips.) Anyway...

I agree that someone needs to try one of these other accumulators to see if in fact the do work with our systems. In one of the more recent posts, someone provided an Ebay link to one manufactured for some foreign automobile that was listing for under a hundred bux. From the looks of it, seemed to be "plug and play".

Only one sure way to know.

But, as you mentioned, right now no one wants to part with a hundo only to find it wasn't what they'd expected.

But, lets be realistic. All the accumulator is, is a nitrogen filled metal container with a rubber diaphragm separating the gas from the fluid. As long as the volume of the cavity is close and the cavity is pressurized the same as ours, it's going to work. If the size and or the fitting is different, then adapters can be made and the position/location can be changed. It doesn't matter to the system how the "ball" is oriented. I believe it'll work just as well in any position.

So, lets not get out panties in a bunch just yet. All is not lost. H*ll, It just occurred to me that if one were concerned about looks under the hood, a dummy/plugged accumulator could be placed in the original position and, with a tee, a line inconspicuously run to an accumulator placed anywhere under the hood, out of sight and it would work.

So, possibilities do exist.

I also have an idea on how to use new, currently available and reasonably priced WSSs on our cars. More on this later in a resurected thread.

Interesting info regarding the "homes" of the Reattas. It always seemed to me that Ohio seemed to have more than its "fair share" of Reattas. Now your numbers confirm it. I'd often wondered how the cars were dispersed and whether geography had much, if anything, to do with where they ended up. Thanks for the info. I'm not much of a stats. man but I think I'll find the complete summary interesting.

No big deal here. I just wanted to know where you're coming from.

It took me weeks to gather the necessary information, all day yesterday to compose/type the text portion of this post and the better part of today to post it with photos that had descriptive text properly aligned. I'm just trying to relay my recent experience with this product and supplier of which I’m extremely satisfied.

The topic of replacement mufflers comes up quite often on this Forum and I feel that this is the closest anyone has come up with as replacement that is comparable with the OEM unit that came with the car from the factory. Putting Camaro, Corvette and other such mufflers on wasn't getting it for me.

I know of which I speak because, as the included photos show, I'd been there/done that.

I too found that information regarding AP EXHAUST TECHNOLOGIES, INC. during my recent search but, as you'll notice, the most current date for that info is as follows:

I'll leave that to someone else to do as I feel that I've contributed enough time, energy and money on this topic for the time being.

In the meantime I'll continue my search for more of these mufflers as I feel they are the most authentic replacement unit available.

I have a friend that is addicted to brake fluid, however he says he can STOP anytime.

I don't know what this means.

OK, here's the low-down given on the down-low regarding the muffler I mentioned in an earlier post.

I found the supplier at the top of this Forum in the rolling/scrolling ads that change from time to time. It came from Waldron’s Exhaust. They were very helpful and accommodating. They provided the muffler and they fabricated the dual tailpipes and the two hanger brackets for the pipes. The bracket that gets welded to the side of the input end of the muffler was off the shelf. The muffler doesn't come with that bracket already attached for some reason. The muffler is the original aftermarket muffler produced in the USA. It's the *Silver Knight* brand, part number 1221 made of aluminumized steel. I've included a shot of the end-flap which shows the dimensions. It's just a bit different in height and width from the original and about 2.5 inches shorter lengthwise. I've checked the output sound in a side by side comparison (the OEM muffler on my '90 Reatta to the aftermarket muffler #1221 on my '89 Reatta) and I can honestly say that they are comparable in tonal quality. They’re almost indistinguishable from one another. This muffler replaces the (what I believe to be) Walker muffler I installed about four years ago. I'm not exactly sure because I can't find the receipt for it but I believe it to be the one recommended on this Forum. I’ve attached pics of that installation.

I'm also including shots of the muffler after installation on my '89 by a local muffler shop as well as shots of the original factory installed muffler on my '90 for comparison. The installer felt that I was being a bit picky regarding the installation considering the age and condition of the car but I told him he was practicing for the eventual install on my '90 and, if things went well, a recommendation to others to have their exhaust work performed at his shop. So, if you live around the Valparaiso, IN. area, please check out Curt at Automotive Exhaust Specialists. They have everything needed to get the job done. Even though the exhaust pipes from the cat. on back are still available as aftermarket, they have the "bend cards" and the equipment so they formed the pipes in-house. They could have also bent the dual tailpipes but I didn't know it before getting them done at Waldron's. I had the choice of using clamps or welding the pipes on. I'll probably be sorry I had them welded as the pipes are aluminized steel as opposed to stainless and it’s been my experience that it is typical that the welds are where the rust out starts to occur. I'll go Stainless on my '90 when it gets replaced.

Back to the mufflers from Waldron's.

I just got word from them that they have access to just three more of these mufflers. They get them from another supplier and it takes about a week to have them delivered. As mentioned earlier, Waldron's has three of these mufflers still available. Once these three are gone, they’re gone but, they can have these mufflers fabricated to their specifications. Presently, I don't know what the cost per muffler is to have them made but, I'll try to find out. (In the mean time, if you want one now, with only three left, better act fast.) They said they can make these mufflers in either stainless or aluminized steel. Of course the stainless would cost more (about 2x more) but would last longer. If I were to go with the stainless on the muffler, then I'd certainly go with stainless on the pipes.

Be advised, according to Curt at Automotive Exhaust Specialists, the aftermarket exhaust pipes on the market are aluminized steel. Aftermarket stainless pipes are unavailable. They would have to be made. I didn't get a quote on those from him but I can if requested.

I now see that the Tailpipes are lower than I think they should be on both cars. I didn't notice this when I took pics of my '90 to show the install guys at AES. They patterned the pipe geometry of the '90 on the '89. They did as I asked and for that I'm greatful. But, I need to pay more attention next time.

This is America and you can do as you wish (within reason). But, just because one isn't required to have a pollution reduction device installed on their car doesn't mean it should be deleted.

Here in Lake and Porter counties, we are required to have emissions checked every two years.

If I were to move out to an area that didn't check, I'd still install one. But... that's just me. (Hey... you axed. )
