I lately sold a 73 suburban with that same hood design. it had over 400,000 hard miles on it and not one perfectly straight piece of body metal except for the hood. The original owner (which was the state of Arizona) must’ve kept it lubed pretty good and I continued doing the same thing when I bought it in 1988. I was aware of the design flaw early on. as well as the new buyer.

Absolutely love it!
Your description of running in high gear I can totally relate too! Our 1928 Lombard dump truck is geared for 9 MPH in fourth gear. The very few times I have run it in high it has scared the crap out of me. The noise and vibration are horrific making that 9 miles per hour feel like 100. Not to mention the fear of leaving a trail of bits and pieces! It also has four speeds in reverse but.... I can't imagine full speed in reverse!
In the video I have it in 3rd for most of the drive.

hey.
I got my motorcycle endorsement from the state of Arizona by riding my daughters vespa.
The hell with riding a Harley.
by the way…
it was hard to accelerate hard enough to meet the minimum standards
that Arizona placed on physically handling the bike.
that with those little tiny diameter wheels and tires.
try that and not wobble.
i barely passed. getting the class A
CDL with ALL the endorsements was easier.

i’ve got a 21000 mile original mile restored fully loaded longroof with a big slip daddy.
“Then how to differentiate between a car that has 21,000 miles from new and a car that has 21,000 miles on a restoration where the speedometer was reset to 0?”
hope the seller is honest. and look at telltale signs.
(personally nobody should reset the odometer.)
say you see 21000 miles on that car. automatically add a one to the front of it. heck. it’s still low mileage for the age.
longroof sounds more exotic.
being a 1950 born socal brat i knew what the beach boys were singing about. pink slip daddy. my dad and then i had a bunch of those (and cars) for years that time. and for clarification… socal IS southern california.
oh yeah. original miles on my 68 fully loaded looooong roof. right. probably should add a ‘one’ to that or maybe even a ‘two’

I think that locomotive 4014 is the one that used to be on display at the LA County fair grounds in Pomona CA. I got to check it out maybe 20 or 30 years ago? I’ve got a few pictures somewhere.

I remember as a kid to hear the term “fully equipped” on tv car ads. Radio, heater and white wall tires!

had a stock 56 pontiac safari. with about a 3:00 rear end. it would easily bury the 120 mph speedo.
likewise my 51 mercury 2 door. previous owner put in a 327 chevy and manual transmission. car was a merc-o-matic originally. about a 3:00 stock rear end i think.
also had a new 71 honda 750. laying down on the tank it too would easily hit 120.
a few years ago i had a 70 mb 300sel 6.3. never tried a top end run with that.

my first car. 1959 fiat 600 sedan. sloooooowwww.

One ride that stands out as unique and interesting to me was the ride from the parking garage behind imperial Palace to the front parking lot of that casino back in 1985 in the backseat of a Tucker during the Tucker meet. sounded like a big corvair.

i might consider an self driving electric as a daily driver. however problems of charging it on a long drive vs a 5 minute gas stop and the eventual overloaded electrical generation facilities.

I guess I’ve been lucky. I’ve never had a hubcap or wheel cover fly off that i can remember since 1966.

maybe the manual window crank mechanism is broken like the right one in my 41 cadillac. or if a power window... hardly works like the ones in my 68 impala.
-
are they similar to other GM power windows?

i’m 6 foot three. i’ve always had difficulty getting comfortable in most all cars. most every vehicle seems to be designed for a 6 foot maximum height.
