    Air cleaner?

Thanks Ed, I did notice that 2 different sizes were offered, 10 and 14", I'll make sure I get the correct one. So I gather the one that comes with the disc has all the dirty work done for you so you don't need to sweat with the decal, I like that idea. Is the disc glued to the air cleaner lid so I just pry the old one off carefully?

    Air cleaner?

Well that makes sense, it didn't look at all like a decal but if you very slowly rub it down like that, it probably would wear down similar to paint. That's great to know Ed, the Old Buick Parts has that and I was wondering what that was all about? It's $30 instead of $15 so we're not talking about a huge difference. It says something about being on an aluminum disc which of course further confused me. I'll get both and report back You guys are the best!

    Air cleaner?

That's great, thanks guys! I thought it was paint, it looked like it was wearing off not peeling off.

    Air cleaner?

What have you guys done to make the air cleaner look presentable, I assume all this is painted on?

    Battery tray?

I'm very lucky with this car, this is the only real rust anywhere. A couple tiny bits on the sheet metal is all there is other than the tray area. Given I live in the Pacific Northwest that amounts to a miracle

    Battery tray?

Ok Erik, you win, that's some pretty nasty rust you're dealing with, I've built a couple cars from that state, I don't envy you.

    Battery tray?

I'll worry about the rust hole somewhere down the road, the battery will hide it anyway. I'll clean up and paint the tray and call it a day for now. I have a bad habit of spiralling out of control when I do something, I'm just rebuilding the engine for now, the rest can wait. Thanks for the slap upside the head

    Battery tray?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is tacked in there as well Ed, seems to really be firmly in place. The tray isn't so bad but there's a hole in the vertical part near the bottom bolt near the tray. To finish it right I would have to remove it and weld it. I'll probably just coat it with Por 15 since I have it and worry about it later. Thanks
  9. Me again with another goofy question about my 1964 Riv My battery tray is the only rusty bit in the engine bay so I would like to pull it out and either replace it or fix it. As with everything with this car it's hard to figure out what's what? Where does this begin and end? Is the back part with the rusty hole the only part attached to the tray or is there more to it? It looks like it's bolted to the inner fender but there's more to it than that, is it attached from below as well?
  10. The impact gun did it like it was nothing, funny I never thought of using it to start with. I have all the air tools but for some reason, old age probably, I always use hand tools. You guys are great!
  11. Thanks for the tips and ideas guys. I found it odd that there isn't a way to lock the pulley to aid in removing the nut.
  12. Me again with another goofy question. I'm rebuilding the 425 and while it's out I want to clean up and paint the bolt on bits. The power steering pump has a couple of brackets, one of which can only come off by removing the pulley. I don't see any way to lock the pulley, no secondary nut to clamp down on? Before I try to crush part of it with channel locks to hold it I thought I should check with you guys As always, a big thanks

    Rearend gears

I'm Rob, 2 time Riv owner, I had a 63 about 25 years ago and always regretted selling it, finally got the 64 a couple years ago so I feel complete again

    Rearend gears

Thanks Ed, I'll climb under in the morning and have a look, I don't know how you know all these things but I'm darn happy you do

    Rearend gears

Thanks, I would guess it's the 3.07 by driving it, possibly 3.23 but certianly not taller, I just had no idea what possibilities there were for it. I'll do the spin and count to be sure.
  16. Does anyone know what the rearend gear possibilities are for a 64? I'm rebuilding the motor so before sorting out the cam specs I should figure it out, I'll jack it up and give it a spin so I should be close, just nice to know what I'm looking for. Thanks
  17. You guys are amazing, that's exactly what I wanted to know, special thanks for the stripped picture of it!
  18. This a weird question but is the roof welded on about 2" down the sail panel, in line with the drip rail basically? I ask because mine has a very wavy look to it there and I'm curious. I'm not doing body and paint for a long time so I won't be able to see what lurks under there for a few years. It isn't the actual line you see but that's the area where it's vertically wavy
  19. Nope, didn't need it, the nut turned with ease right from the start so it wasn't a matter of muscle, once I got it hot the seized line broke free and a few seconds later it was out Yeah no kidding although I can't complain too much about this one too much, other than the one rad line and the exhaust, everything has come apart surprisingly easy. I sprayed the exhaust bolts last night so hopefully that won't be an issue when I get back to it. As you may have figured I won't be visiting you for a bit, time flew by and I had to get on pulling the motor.

  21. Funny you mention that, I noticed it when I removed the coil and I thought it was odd too? There's a lot of unique things on the nailhead from what I can gather.
  22. That's a great idea, clamping the line with a flaring tool, I never thought of that, what did we do before forums? That after torching the nut a bit may be the answer.
  23. Marlin blue with white would look great, black with white would look really nice as well, just about anything with a white interior would look great I think
  24. There's a guy up around here that takes your stock radio and turns into a modern style FM radio while totally maintaining the stock look. I may do that some time but then you are still limited to what you can put in there for speakers using the original locations. If I could find the optional rear speaker I wouldn't mind getting that, currently I'm quite enjoying the quiet when I drive.
