Flory believes that the 1963 Riviera's competition was the Chrysler 300-J, the Ford Thunderbird, and the Studebaker Avanti.
Thoughts? The Thunderbird would seem obvious and correct …

There's always someone with more. We're relatively serious participants in a non-Riviera portion of the automotive hobby—we have three.
Our non-car friends think that's an insane number of hobby vehicles. Our car friends think "they're nice folks—some day they'll get serious."

That's what I did a long time ago after having had similar problems to yours. The headlight motor can get fried unless the micro switches are adjusted properly. The factory issued over 20 service bulletins on the '65 headlamp visor system and several revisions were issued to retrofit the cars when still under warranty. That tells us the system was buggy, and it would be no surprise that you're having issues 55 years later.
Lordy …

Pretty slim pickings right now on eBay Motors and Hemmings if you are looking for cars you haven't seen on sale for months.

All insurance is great until a claim is made. Not all policies, or even stated value policies are created equal. And in the case of a total loss, most are the same. The issue comes up when it is not a total loss, or you are under insured and the repair costs more than the stated value, but you want to repair the car. Check with owners who have had to make claims before picking an insurance carrier.
Always good advice—I have multiple data points of very good experiences with Hagerty in times of need. Certainly there are other insurers in the same space that can work just as well.

As others have said, hagerty won't even question it.
All it does is cost a little bit more money.

Check with Hagerty, I have been told they are the very accommodating when it comes to higher agreed values.
They are.

In comparison cruise control is much simpler to install than Guide-Matic.

I think folks are going to get a lot of work done on their cars over the next couple of months.

It's an adventure. At the 2012 meet in Monterey, California , the long distance award went to a gentleman and his wife drove from Nova Scotia. Google maps says that was only a 57 hour drive that covered about 6,200 KM
- one way. 😁
That's a hike!

Hard to believe that 40 years ago today (03/15/1980), I purchased this car.
It has been a long and winding road since then. I have met a lot of GREAT people like yourself and so many other AACA members along the way thanks to this car. Looking forward to continuing the journey for many more years and miles to come.
I also really enjoyed that article and the pictures, with those hard-won badges in front of the grille.

Ya think? ...I don't understand some of these prices for 1980's/90's Porsche/Mercedes so I'm just going to keep any and all disparaging remarks to myself. That 560 SEC that brought $390,000 must have been a "Weekend at Bernies" movie car or something.
Agreed. That is simply an astounding amount of money. But it was an AMG from when that meant something with relatively low miles in a very good color.

That green 73 above sold for $13,656 on ebay. I'd have been surprised if it hit 15k
I'm surprised it sold at all—I thought there would be a higher reserve than that.

[1963] What Was The Real Competition?
in Buick Riviera

Thank you @Seafoam65 Agreed on the Thunderbird sales data—T'bird sales didn't peak until 1973. Through 1976 (Ford exited the market in 1977) Riviera beat Thunderbird just twice: 1969 and 1971.
